The talent is there, unfortunately the effort isn't and getting embarrassed isn't changing anything which is concerning

Feels bad man.

8 games in and they've already thrown away a possible 7 points. Don't need to remind anyone those 7 points and the class of opposition.

They'll have their time where they go streaking and we'll forget about this...but 7 lost points is a big gap. Could've been huge points to bank.

It tells you our greedy star players don't want to out compete so-called "bad" teams...they simply think that talent alone will win them games.
It’s pathetic at this point. I tried for many years with this core to be very hopeful and positive. This team has broke me. I’ve earned the right to feel the way now, I gave them more than enough benefit of the doubt, the players, coach and GM too.

Dubas has gutted this team. I miss how fast and edgy we used to play. Might not have had major hits but we were playin hard.

This years team just seems mentally defeated. They already lost the playoffs in their minds.

Or it doesn't. This could be a year where we take a step back and the program changes course. I don't think this era has unfolded the way they imagined anyway.

We all thought the Matthews/Marner era were the ones that would win but their real role was to teach the next era's leader (Engvall) how to win through adversity.

The lack of will to compete gets worse every year. The defense is terrible so far, the forwards can't make 2 passes in a row and our goaltending outside of Samsonov is junk. Team needs a lot currently.

They've won just 1 game in regulation since Mitch Marner told us they were "grown men".
I remember after season opener vs. Habs...Marner said something about the way teams play them..it felt like he was saying he doesn't know why bad teams play them so hard...but it's weird because now they can't even beat bad teams because all the bad teams heard him and it's probably bulletin board material.

I know they've struggled with this exact thing for years now - playing down to weak competition.

You wouldn't think the aging Leafs core with all they've been through...would still have issues waking up for games...or taking teams for granted. Ah well.

Where? You saw talent during that game?

They couldn't hit the net or complete simple passes. They can barely keep posession and when they do it amount to a nothing chance or a broken play

Good question.

If we don't see this weekend, 2 great efforts and results to match, I think Keefe will legit be in the hot seat. It's going to take a lot for Dubas to can Keefe but not out of the realm of possibility. Didn't see the game tonight but f*** me - losing to the Sharks? That's some bullshit right there
20 game mark is usually when some decisions will be made. :)

It's hard to blame goalies for breakaways, but what on earth was Kallgren doing? He backed up so deep he was basically on the goal line, while Karlsson makes a dreadfully slow, off balance backhand forehand move inches in front of his face without even attempting any sort of poke check.

That was hilariously dreadful goaltending, he looked like a Jr B tender on that one.

None the less, the entire team is to blame for losing to a team as terrible as the San Jose Sharks, these guys are bad.

when you invest heavily in an injury prone goalie who is injured your are left with few options

There's plenty of talent, unfortunately talent without effort gets you nowhere
