Keefe starting Kampf AGAIN in OT should be a fireable offense. Also, I can’t f***ing stand David Kampf and his stupid baby face.

I was told signing guys like Reaves would deter guys like Marchand injuring our players.
Reaves has a long history of taking care of business. He was brought in to do that. He has not done that since game 1. He did not do that today. I trust Reaves' history that he will take care of business if given an opportunity and I trust Keefe's history that he does not put value in taking care of business.

Same Keefe that started a playoff series with Simmonds and Clifford as barely NHL players because "there will be violence?"

I will cheer for the Leafs always, no matter what, just like everyone that hangs out on these boards. This team is one of the most talented I’ve seen but hard to like for me unfortunately. I don’t even know who would be my favourite player on the team is. It was Kadri before he was traded because he had heart.

I miss Clark,Tucker, Roberts, Dougie, players that understand the word teammates. Until we get a player that plays with that kind of heart and passion I don’t see playoff success. Someone needs to drag these wimps into a battle and show them that you can battle back
Yup, like Gilmour did way back when. Unfortunately, I don't see another one like that coming our way so we're basically just f***ed. Kadri was my favorite too. My next favorite was Marner but that seems like such a long time go, not my favorite any more and I'll just leave it at that.

Should have made Rielly captain, he's the only star player I'm not disappointed in ATM.

He is only out there to take the face-off and then Matthew's jumps on if they win the puck. If not, they have a defensive minded forward out there until they recover the puck. Once they do Matthews jumps over the boards. You rather save his energy for when they have the puck rather than him having to go off because he was playing defense for his entire shift.

Then start Tavares who is our best faceoff man.

You mean they failed Keefe by not having a staged fight during their one shift for 30 seconds at the beginning of the game when there has not been any prior engagement?

Yep. As I've said for a few years now there needs to be a core shakeup.

I have no doubts they'll figure themselves out and get rolling. But the last few years have shown me that the regular season doesn't mean anything for this core group. Playoffs are what matters. But they don't inspire me much so far.

Yep at some point we're going to have to accept that either this core or the 4 forwards and 1 D setup doesn't work quite as well as hoped.

Tonights game we started off very poorly, had a very good second period and decent third.

Sammy played a very good game and that's my biggest takeaway as he really needs to start playing better than he has.

Sucks to see Liljegren get injured as he had been playing very good and we couldn't afford losing anyone quality on the backend.

Bertuzzi deserved his demotion as he's been brutal pretty much since training camp and I was actually someone really high on the signing.

It's apparent that Keefe is a huge issue. Anyone that is physical has a hard time when they join this team.
Stop making this team soft every year...

When almost every post in this thread refers, in some way, to the perpetual issue of this team’s inability/unwillingness to stand up for their teammates, that tells you all you need to know.

The unity of sentiment shows the true heart of this board.

Every other team in the league responds to a dirty play like that on Lilly why is it only our team that never responds? We even brought in tougher guys over the years and still no response.
Comes back to Keefe everytime.
Also Keefes favourite players have always been the softest (Marner, Holl, Kerfoot, Kampf)

And if he loses the faceoff do you send Kampf over the boards?
Marner is that Selke level defender now isn't he? Is that not good enough? Play Brodie at the start if you have to and have him fly off for Rielly if we win the faceoff. The point is Kampf is our worst faceoff man this season so this having him take the draw is useless. If he's having one of those games where he's like 10-1 on the draw then be my guest and use him because he's feeling it that night. Tavares is like 64% in the dot this season compared to Kampfs like 43%. I would like to think a coach couldn't be that dumb but I think those numbers speak for themselves, yet he keeps playing the guy who is 20% worse in the dot to try and get possession for us in OT. He's doing a better job getting the other team possession.

Great for the Leafs to fight back and secure a point. Unfortunately, the shoot out tie breaker, winner point went to Boston. As someone mentioned- there was no push-back after the Marchand can opener.

To recap. Keefe don't trust Matthews to go out to start the OT F/O and present a best on best situation... or Matthews in a defensive role playing 3 on 3... but at the same time think sit's a good idea to use him in a PK role where he's trusted defensively, can strip pucks and can exploit the other team for offense in a 5 on 4 disadvantage...

Huge mental disconnect there.

I'll never get rattled after a shootout loss.

It was a tie game, and Boston won the skills contest. Onto the next game. At least the Leafs picked up a point

We will be lucky to be a wild card spot
No the division is too ass

Tampa is looking rough
Florida is doing ok
Sens/Sabres/Wings are all struggling
Montreal is…montreal

2-3 is yet again what I’m expecting. So another 72 games of the same shot as last year and then 7 games, maybe more of again the same

More accurately, Keefe trusts Mathews in any situation, but he prioritizes having Matthews available for offense in 3 on 3 situations. They can easily throw Matthews out there if they win possession, but starting Kampf allows them to keep Matthews fresh for an offensive situation if the opposing team starts with possession.

A little late, but if keefe sends kampf out for faceoffs and I guess defence, and kampf sucks on faceoffs, why wasn’t Tavares sent out tonight instead? He was 52% vs Kampfs 38%.

Tavares has looked faster this season so I just think it would be a better shot of winning the draw and still having offence out there. Obviously it’s 3 on 3 ot with shuffled lines, but keefe makes a lot of head scratching decisions for the lineup
