I mean you posted entire game stats for them, questioned how that can happen, then dramatically shifted the goalposts once you got the answer.

Youre welcome to continue the discussion if you want to clarify why you posted full game minutes and questioned full game usage, then zero'ed in on a third period where they played under 3 minutes with 3 shifts in the period. Coincidentally that was the period we saw most of the changes you wanted, but you highlighted it as a notably bad one.

Just tough to zero in on your thoughts here
Well, I find his thoughts are pretty much the same every game. Matching the thoughts to what happened on the ice, now that's the hard part.

We all have our biases and skews, some just take it to an unreasonable level

Personally I just wish there was a way to ignore a posted and not lose out when they start a GDT

I liked his aggression. He's getting more and more confidence as he learns about what it takes in the playoffs. Like a sponge soaking it all in. You can see he's thriving in the opportunity.
I remember posting something like this a after his first playoff game (in which he looked really good):

If Knies can look this good in his 1st playoff game, only his 4th game in the NHL then think about how good he might look with another 5-6 games under his belt. Who knows, maybe with that experience adjusting to the NHL he'll be a real force to be reckoned with. No guarantee it happens of course but still, it could happen and the possibilities are fun to think about!

Looks like this might be happening. Taking it one game at a time and not getting too carried away but still, kids looking good!

We played pretty good. Bobrovsky seems to have caught fire last round and kept it up today. That's gonna be huge for Florida. Nylander was flying tonight and could have had a couple.

Not liking Marner on the right side on the PP. He's too predictable; either takes a weak shot into the goalie's chest or makes a slap pass that gets intercepted. His game in general today was lackluster. Hope he does better on Thursday.

Not liking that we're 1-3 on home ice so far.

Agreed. One more situation in the game where he was too focused on setting up his linemates.

After they failed to score on so many chances in the first and second, it looked like he got fed up and decided to do it himself, with seven shots (the most by any player) in the last 20:11 of the game.

If ROR's hand is good enough for him to win faceoffs, they should put Willy back on the top PP unit in place of JT.

We need McCabe to have that same physicality, but be much more stable. He was too erratic tonight.

No intensity.
Too slow.
Lob the puck out over the forecheckers and have Lafferty, Nylander, Kerfoot and Jarnkrok (fastest player on each) line looking for break aways.

Fla's strong north/south defensive play allowed them to withstand what appeared to be good scoring opportunities for the Leafs. They kept the play in front of Bob for the most part, Bob was great on shots in front of him, and Fla was able to win rebound battles because they outmanned the Leafs in front of the net. The Leafs' goals came from east/west plays that saw Bob floundering around the crease. Hopefully next game brings (a) more offensive zone possession from 16 and 88 because their east/west play will generate better scoring opportunities and (b) more net front presence to win rebound battles. 88 showed signs of getting out of his funk, which hopefully will be followed by his usual period of dominance.

Marner and Nylander need to be better.
Agree about Marner, who was pretty much invisible.

Nylander led the both teams in shots, and made several great setups that just weren't converted. He was on for more than half our shots and seemed to be the only one who could carry the puck out of our end and into theirs.

There's a stat called xGF? Lmao

GF ain't good enough it is xGF that matters apparently; unless GF becomes an x it has no meaning

:sarcasm:

:biglaugh:

On a serious note: xGF stands for "expected" goals forced where the actual events occuring in the game don't matter but somehow some "expected" events have more meaning. I wish such a world existed so I can go to that world where my expected dates would be victoria secret models all the time

I know it’s just one game, but I do find it concerning when our 20 year old rookie with under 10 NHL games of experience is vastly outperforming Marner.

Stoked for Knies because he has been really good, but that can’t be happening. Marner should be one of the best players on the ice at all times and a driver of this team, even at his worst. He should be comparing himself to Tkachuk because he was better in junior, he’s been better as a pro, and he should be every bit as dominant right now.

It’s hard winning 4-0 in every series leading up to the finals. Let’s be glad it’s only game 1 with plenty of runway left to turn this series around.
