Only things I’m really worried about from this game is Samsanov (what is the deal with him being shaky on super tight, side of the net shots by the way?) and the fact that ROR looks like a tired, slow old man. I was hoping he’d be a difference maker this playoffs and now I’m worried he might be a net negative.

Making plays while taking hits counts as being physical you know and Florida did it all game. They also out-hit us factually so no we didn't match them physically.

There is nothing that shows we dominated. Not the eye test. Not the fancy stat test. The only player who looked dominant was Nylander in the 3rd.

Looks like the fancy stats say otherwise.

Imagine trading for young people like Tyler Bertuzzi.

Acciari had what, 20% xGF again and totally invisible? O'Reilly is no longer a 60 minute guy and a prerequisite to being clutch is we keep the game tied for him when he's finally able to muster some energy.

Boston aged out after going up 3-1 I wouldn't be surprised if Marchand and Berg retire now. I already see some guys aging out like Gio O'Reilly (with respects to per 60) and Acciari.

Knies is the only player who has brought it every shift for the core group. Go figure it's the guy under 30 whose able to do so.
Damn, make it to the 2nd round finally and you're still complaining about the trade deadline and using xGF% stats. Especially complaining about 2 guys who scored what in the 1st round? 4 or 5 goals for us and got about 10 points. What did Boston give up for Bertuzzi to lose in the 1st round? I'm sure his xGF% was pretty high too but nobody cares because he's eliminated. O'Rielly also playing with a broken finger still most likely.

1) there was absolutely ZERO reason to get caught with your 4th line against Tkachuk link especially at home with the last change. That was pathetic bench management. And he did that repeatedly. These are wasted minutes playing chicken in your won zone -> hard on your goalie

2) McCabe-Brodie pair struggling he should have changed up the d-pairs

3) down a goal (then 2 goals) should have seen more Rielly and Liljegren

4) Marner and Nylander's minutes are wasted 5 on 5 with Tavares; ROR should be playing 2C and Tavares 3C when 5 on 5 Tavares' line isn't generating much offense

5) defense was still struggling where florida had more zone time than leafs did. Leafs were one and done

6) "play the hot hand" Bunting got the goal should have gotten more ice time and played up the line up. Especially when playing from behind Keefe's only "changes" in the top 6 was flipping Jankrok/Knies and occasionally putting out JT-Marner-Matthews or Nylander/Matthews/Marner

7) PP not getting it done, Nylander has a shot on PP that is missing yet Willy not on PP1 while Leafs' PP continues to struggle -> Not Acceptable !

8) Nylander 19 mins and ROR 18 mins while Kerfoot and Kampf both 10 mins -> context "down a goal and 2 goals"

9) Liljegren 17 mins when down a goal/2 goals not acceptable. he shoud have forced Rielly and then Lily on the next pair until we get a goal or time runs out

There are others i can list if you want
I mean this is a pretty specific list with some questionable choices.

Like the 4th line in Tkachuk who has 3 pts, none against them

Willy and Marner player with JT, while both spotted in with Matthews and Tavarea generated a number of opprtunities, specifically for Willy.

Only an 8 minute gap to Nylander and ROR, Only?!?!?!? Thats huge!

Im fine with Willy on PP1, but it wont change with Marner double clutching every possession or Willy fumbling from a shooting spot like we saw.

The lineup needs to be adjusted + different matchups.

Knies Matthews Marner
Bunting O'Reilly Nylander
Jarnkrok Tavares Acciari
Kerfoot Kampf ZAR

Rielly Schenn
McCabe Lily
Gus Brodie

Maybe McCabe and Brodie don't need to be a pairing since there isn't a specific line to shut down.
I like those lines! SOLD

Not sure how many jobs are safe after this round to be honest. Florida squeezed into the playoffs, and certainly are a more beatable than Tampa. Also, Leafs beat Tampa but not convincingly either.. In fact according to advanced state I'm pretty sure 5/6 games they lose 90% of the time of played the same way (when tinkering on the win-o-meter on an advanced page).

depends on how you are defining zone time.

I should have been more specific. Flordia cycled the puck more effectively in teh Leafs zone comapred to the other way around.

Florida sat back after they got 2 goal lead and were content clogging the neutral zone so you have to apply context when looking at 'total' zone time as there are score effects. Interesting to note that we still got outshot 7-5 in the 3rd period on 5on5 hockey

I am defining more zone time as having more zone time. I'm curious how you make the claim they had less the last time a graphic was shown they had 3 minutes more.

Just thought you had that stat so I wanted to see it, I love having more data available to me.

Some people are just perpetually negative

They were expecting Tkachuk and co to try to be more physical and tried to make a statement game out of it but Florida didn’t really bite. The annoying thing is 1 hard hitting game isn’t enough to wear them down, but I don’t want McCabe thinking hit first all series and get back to playing safe.

At least we didn’t lose the way Dallas is losing to the Kraken.

The pressure the Leafs put on was very encouraging… gonna be hard for Bobrovsky to stop that over a whole series.

I don't know what to say?

FLA plays pinball hockey. I'm not sure anyone can defend that, but you can't lose your assignments. You can't do fly byes.

Again TOR were guilty of playing pass the puck all the way into the net in the first period. Nylander can't enter the zone and then pull up / fade away. He has to make a play that's not passive.

I'm not sure what Keefe plans on doing with match-ups, strategy, etc. He looked pretty bad tonight.

0% chance that is correct to the bolded...

blindly using data can lead to rally werid results. correlation does not equal causation.

looking at data without context is not ideal. if you don't care about context when looking at data then we approach data differently

we got outchanced and outshot in the 3rd on 5on5 hockey man. This is specially bad since we were chasing the game. We never had the lead in the entire game

here is a quick graphic

I wouldn't mind people being negative, but this same poster has been pushing this narrative about xGF% since the deadline and how we got worse and all that. Just seems like he doesn't care if we win or not, it just has to be his way and has to please his xGF% fetish or something.

Both the Panthers and Krakens have the "me against the world" mentality, highly unlikely that they will slow down anytime soon.
