Saying the Leafs got goalied is such a lazy take. The stars didn't produce, plain and simple
This. Bob had to make one tough stop the whole game before the Leafs put on all the pressure with the empty net, when for all intents and purposes the game was already over.

Leafs really can't start games, series, anything on time. What is going on with these guys?

Credit to the Panthers. That forecheck is a nightmare, they capitalized on mistakes and Bobrovsky was in prime form.

I can't believe we're actually still saying this in the second round but the Leafs need to find themselves...AGAIN.

Bonus points for Knies' first goal. A beauty.

Leafs need to hold on to the puck for a second, Bobrovsky is cheating on every shot.

Notice both Knies and Bunting's goal the players faked a shot and Bob slid out of the net. If we did that on all our chances, we probably score 7 today.

Was really hoping they would start Lyon because I knew with our luck Bob would return to Vezina form just like Price did.

Imagine trading for young people like Tyler Bertuzzi.

Acciari had what, 20% xGF again and totally invisible? O'Reilly is no longer a 60 minute guy and a prerequisite to being clutch is we keep the game tied for him when he's finally able to muster some energy.

Boston aged out after going up 3-1 I wouldn't be surprised if Marchand and Berg retire now. I already see some guys aging out like Gio O'Reilly (with respects to per 60) and Acciari.

Knies is the only player who has brought it every shift for the core group. Go figure it's the guy under 30 whose able to do so.

(And I don't care that boston added bertuzzi and lost, I'm talking about how guys in that age group at his level incorporate with our young core guys)

Marner looked like he couldn't get any space tonight, they were definitely smothering him and forcing Knies to make plays to drive the line.

Thing is I think Knies did a good job. If he keeps it up that might start creating more space for Marner.

Then again Marner has to fight more. He needs to thrive in these open games and be that PP catalyst.

.
every driver at some point has turned the wrong way on a one way street…..

Bryan McCabe full on slapped the puck into his own net.
when it happened I thought for sure he was going to cut back for the mini break. I don’t what he was thinking.

Yep.

Which is why I am not upset. Besides some defensive breakdowns the Leafs were really good and will get lots of looks this series.

No they have to capitalize on them or else they will join Tampa
The lineup needs to be adjusted + different matchups.

Knies Matthews Marner
Bunting O'Reilly Nylander
Jarnkrok Tavares Acciari
Kerfoot Kampf ZAR

Rielly Schenn
McCabe Lily
Gus Brodie

Maybe McCabe and Brodie don't need to be a pairing since there isn't a specific line to shut down.

Do you have a source here? Trying to find it, but last I saw it was 12 mins to 9 mins for the Leafs, and doubt it swung that much.

depends on how you are defining zone time.

I should have been more specific. Flordia cycled the puck more effectively in teh Leafs zone comapred to the other way around.

Florida sat back after they got 2 goal lead and were content clogging the neutral zone so you have to apply context when looking at 'total' zone time as there are score effects. Interesting to note that we still got outshot 7-5 in the 3rd period on 5on5 hockey

Game 1's generally don't bear much resemblance to the rest of the series, especially when one team's been sitting and the other's coming in off an adrenaline high. Bottom line, I expect a far different game 2. What worries me is that Florida played pond hockey and won, and we already know they can beat an elite team that plays a far more structured game. IMO this series turns on which coach can make the right adjustments at the right time...and in that respect I'm a little more scared than I thought I'd be right now. If Keefe has an extra level of creative coaching he's been saving for the 2nd round this'd be the time to use it.

Felt like a regular season plus game for me.

This is the thing that has bugged me most of the playoffs so far.. where is the extra gear? The Leafs have played most of the playoffs like is is a mid-season nothing game. They refuse to make simple plays offensively when half their goals in the playoffs have been from throwing it at the net and cleaning up the garbage. They refuse to make simple plays to clear their own zone when they are in trouble or to prevent it. They lose soooo many loose pucks and board battles. They keep giving up preventable late goals.

Where is the intensity? Or even desperation when they are behind? The drive? Nylander literally skated away from an all alone chance that he created while down by a goal tonight.

I'm really confident the Leafs can beat Florida but they have coasted through on luck up until now.

When are they going to really show up for the playoffs?

We play like this again and we will win this series handedly. The wild card will be Bob.

Can't complain about tonights effort. Barely any sustained pressure in our zone for most of the game, unlike Tampa

Splitting up McCabe and Brodie is a good idea but Gio needs help. Add Gustafson as the 7th D and it works much better.

At the time, I thought Calgary got a fantastic deal for Tkachuk but man, he’s unreal. He’s a handful, need to do something to contain him.
