He might ask for a trade if he does that. We don't want that or maybe we do. One of the more overrated stars in the league
Buddy that would kill two birds with one stone. I'm done with Mitch, too soft, too careless with the puck...all he cares about is pulling chel skill moves and throwing saucer passes between the legs. He couldn't win a puck battle against my 12 year old son.

I knew 5 years ago this core wasn't good enough, such a waste of time. Leafs will be back to bubble territory and all we got is a single round win, absolutely disgusting. Shanahan can suck my nuts, biggest clown to ever put on a suit. In fact, probably the biggest loser of them all minus getting paid to be a chump.

The core is good enough, it's the pieces around the core that aren't up to par. In the past there hasn't been enough $ to build around the core, but with the cap going up and JT's 11M expiring after next season I think there is a real opportunity to build this team the right way in the next two offseasons.

This season is all but over at this point. Nothing is going to save it. The team probably finishes 12th in the east missing the playoffs. It is done.
Don't be an idiot. The Leafs will easily make the playoffs, and despite their flaws still have a chance against anyone in a 7 game series. I don't view them as legit contenders today, but there are only like 4 or 5 of those in the league and none of them are guaranteed anything.

The core is maybe good enough if you chop a cool $3m off each of Tavares/Marner/Matthews contracts, so that the team can actually afford depth.

But even then, I highly doubt those 3 have it in them to actually step up in the playoffs for the first time ever

10-10 in regulation this year.

Please tell me Treliving sees what we see: This isn't the year for this team and avoids pulling a Dubas by going all-in at the deadline?
Don't trade our 1st till the offseason.

The depth can’t be this poor if you have cup aspirations. At this point I’d say missing the playoffs isn’t totally out of the question. Unless they make smart long term decisions to improve, they may as well sell and hope to steal a wild card tbh. At least they’ll be able to justify their first round exit with taking one step back to get 2 steps ahead in the future.

No way should signing Nylander for anything more than 9 be a priority.

I don’t know man. I wouldn’t be so sure about that this year. This team is different then previous seasons. And not in a good way.

Nylander is not worth the rumoured amount.

He plays like he's racking up points for a payday. He's always cheating at the blueline and contributes nothing defensively.

Anything over 8M for him is an overpayment - I hate how much he cheats at the opponents blueline to rack up those points during his contract year. He cares more about his stats than winning.

They have been porous defensively before and made it. What people neglect is that this is still one of the best offensive teams in the league, and when you combine that with Woll the results are pretty good. Besides, it's not like there are a ton of world beaters around the league... Most teams are just ok.

Most of the wingers on this team stretch the ice to create space behind the defense. Nylander is one of the best at it so you take the good with the bad, knowing full well there is more good than bad. Nylander is also clearly worth more than 8M, and with the cap rising is probably worth somewhere around 10M. Whether or not you think that is the best allocation of cap is another question. I personally do because I don't think the equivalent player on defense is available for just money.

Let's see how many teams are lining up to pay him 10M. The Leafs only bid against themselves.

Sebastian Aho just signed a 9.75M x 8 extension. The Hurricanes would block the Leafs number if they offered Nylander for Aho 1 for 1.

Would give the keys to guy Boucher at this point.

Agreed, we need defensive structure. Berube wouldn’t be bad either.

I don’t think the leafs entertain that trade either.

anyway agree with this take from the gdt:

Played pretty hard tonight but couldn't break through. They got playoff'ed.

Marner hate is just frothing at this point and totally out of control but yeah really bad attempted pass to Nylander and not at least trying to chase Aho down is inexcusable. but still it's all these guys don't give a shit until Mitch complains about getting called for a penalty when it's sit down and shut up you pathetic loser, I will never understand it. and the idea that the Jarvis goal is on him directly, unreal

Easily? They're 1 point above the WC2 spot. I don't share your confidence.

I guess Leafs will go on a run after the holidays. As a perennial playoff team I also wouldn't care much about games at the end of december.

dont forget brodie. he has been complete ass the entire season.

brodie should be a permanent scratch. Frekain' retain 50% on him and dump him
Brodie plays like ass every game, his strength is his consistency………

Difference between Marner and Aho?

Both highly skilled. Aho thinks the game on a high level and knows how to play hard and keep it simple.

Marner, years into his career, is still trying to do junior hockey shit. Playing with Matthews just makes it worse.

Aho is a student of the game.

Marner is a mental midget of the game.
And one’s not overpaid……..
