Imagine making Kochetkov looking like a good goalie. Lmao. First round exit guaranteed. This team is pathetic and should feel deep shame (but they won't).
I'm flabbergasted that you're assuming they're even going to make the playoffs at this point?

With this type of play, it's really in question.

Looks like this roster is on some serious borrowed time. They're too used to each other, they're tired of each other, they're playing like they've closed the chapter on this current setup and are just waiting for management to make a change. They're playing like they already know that the change is coming, so they're just going through the motions each game just waiting for it.

It really looks like the era of Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares has expired, and it's time to swap it out well before the playoffs. No way they can go back into round 1 (if they even make it) with this group. Didn't work last year, and is for sure not going to work this time around. Only a looney bin tenant (sorry is that offensive) would go into the upcoming playoffs with the same roster as last year which is essentially the same as what it is this year. These guys are cooked and as of the very last day of 2023, it's time to admit it's over for these players as a group and to start the process of changing them up.

And the goalies too. Hopeless. What a mess.

Treliving and co had better get started... there's a lot to fix here

Didn’t pick up his man on a lazy back check on the Jarvis goal and then turned the puck over to Aho the empty net goal.
The Jarvis goal was not a lazy back check. It was a penalty kill, after Domi took a penalty. McCabe made a bad pass, and Brodie pushed up poorly at the blueline, resulting in a 2 on 1 against. As for the empty net goal, nobody on the team gave Marner an outlet. Nylander crept in way too far, almost ran into Bertuzzi, and then set up for the shot in a bad place. Rielly went wide and didn't cover the person advancing in from a defense position, and there was no free lane to anybody else around the net.

It's important to look at the entirety of what happened, instead of just defaulting to blaming the guy who last touched a puck or was in the vague vicinity of the goal scorer, with no context.

This team sucks right now. Goaltending is shit.

But there's really no solution to that most goalies in the NHL right now are shit.

Put Sammy on waivers, fire Keefe already maybe sign Berube or someone.

Trade Marner, he runs everything, the whole cycle goes through him. Let's try something else.

But, I had a gut feeling we were gonna suck around this time, I think we're better in the new year for whatever reason.

Still a first round exit though.

I never post rants like this btw. 2024 is gonna be the best year ever btw, just thought I'd put that out there.
Reads like maybe you've gotten an early start on the New Year's Eve festivities....

Why Sammy has to go to post game interviews and Marner’s entitled .ss is hiding in the locker room? At least Sammy has the courage to say that he sucks while alternate captain is nowhere to be seen as usual.
Samsonov has nothing to lose. Facing the cameras is easy for him at this point. He knows he's being deleted in a short time. Lots of players/coaches seem to have this same characteristic: face the cameras with no problem at all when you know you're backed into a corner and your time is just about up. Strange, but it's the way of so many athletes.

In the grand scheme of things I like that they’re dealing with some adversity. The east is wide open so hopefully with a few moves and a healthy Woll they enter the playoffs on a roll.

I’ve seen enough hockey to not get too high or too low.
Pretty much every team in the East is flawed in one way or another. The Atlantic is particularly bad at the moment. It may be that both wildcard teams are from the Metro.

That's a very incomplete assessment of what happened on both goals. See my previous comment above yours.
Just because others didn't make it easy, doesn't mean his misplay wasn't the primary factor in the GA. That backcheck is less necessary if he's in position, not necessary if he makes the right read and not all that difficult if he doesn't cheat in the first place. Worst part? He's out of position because he's pouting about not getting the offensive chance, so he floats too high in the neutral zone and loses position. Brodie pressing because we play with forward support at the line and Marners there. At least, with effort he is, but that was too much to ask here.

That ENG is an easy solution, buy time, outlet to Matthews downlow or make a better pass to Nylander. Instead Marner chooses to force the play to Nylander and it bites him.

It's a bad night for the guy and he hasn't played well over the past two weeks or so. Really he's looked off most of the year, but the last two weeks or so have been painful to watch. He cost us tonight.

It expired 5 years ago, but most of this fan base just couldn't see it

Let me explain it to you real simply. Would missing the playoffs be the best case scenario this year? I would argue yes, in all honesty. Let's be real, a tandem of Joseph Woll and Samsonov / Jones isn't getting you the cup. Especially behind this mid as f*** D. The only legit defensemen they have is Rielly. Also, with Keefe at the helm? LMAO.

Something like missing the playoffs and that sweet one round of extra revenue for MLSE might actually wake them up into making the massive changes required to get this team back trending in the right directly (fire Keefe / trade Marner). It also means a higher pick for us at the draft.

Now, having said all that though, and this is the most important part... this is the Leafs we're talking about. They never do what they should in the time that they should. Even if they fired Keefe tonight and traded Marner tomorrow, they would be years late to make those changes. They'll remain mid enough just to squeak into the playoffs and get knocked out in 7 by Florida or a Metro team. And the same cast and crew will be back here again in October.

I never get too frustrated with a miss play or gaff when the goalie is pulled. At that point, you' re dealing with a crapshoot having to be executed at an even quicker pace due to time constraints.

I think the Leafs could lose 7 or 8 in a row and still somehow hold on to third in the division. The division is that bad. They are lucky they aren't in the Metro.

They're gonna be a horrible wildcard race team down the stretch too. Losing silly games when they cant.

If Marner and Brodie play the next game, we know this organization from top to bottom isn't serious.
They're not. Kampf benching was just Keefe making a move to make to look like he actually is doing something. Just trying to protect his job which should have been fired before start of season. He will be gone I think before end of January. .500 team when you really think about it.

At least you're not guaranteeing they'll take over first place before the end of the year, that's some progress I guess.:laugh:
Most don’t like his dad.
Yeah, that must be it.

What happened to your people don't like him because "he once flipped the puck over the glass five years ago" routine? Did you finally decide it was time for some new material after posting that nonsense 862 times? You still think he's going to hit 120 points this season or what?

I really hope you're right. And I hope they get someone who's not afraid to act like he's in charge!
