It's not about his dad. This guy still thinks he is in junior with the way he plays the game. I just can't stand him, I don't care about his dad. He is gutless, sorry.
I was specifically referring to you but Paul is mentioned an awful lot on this board. Seems a little thick of those who bring up his name so often.

Yea he could have been better tonight. Him being the sole reason for the loss is a little silly.

I don't think you know what a hold out is.
They have Marner confused with Nylander.

This season may be a blessing in disguise in the sense that it will force management to be honest about what's needs improving and make those changes over the next year or two. It will also hopefully force the team to abstain from trading what limited draft capitol they have left.

Just finished watching the game. I honestly thought the leafs played alright overall, they were the better team 5v5 but lost the special teams matchup

- Every time Brodie touched the puck he made a bad decision, it was baffling. He needs to sit
- Marner sucks in a tight-checking hockey and it showed once again tonight
- This team is not a contender, nowhere near close to it. Let this season play out as it is and don't spend assets at the deadline
- We have also approached re-tool territory IMO, the core needs an adjustment and the defense needs a complete overhaul. The decisions Treliving makes this summer to correct these issues will have a major impact on his legacy as GM and the contention window of this club

Didn't Marner hold out the first few days of camp? That would count for me. If there are team activities and you are not there, you are holding out...

Maybe I am remembering wrong.
Think it was a day but he also was willing to re-sign the prior season for 8.5 x 8 but Dubas didn’t want to.

I think maybe if the team hadn't squandered the game vs CLB people would be okay with the effort tonight, though I thought they were outclassed. But the less-than-stellar play has been going on for about 6 or 7 games now. The team is trending in the wrong direction (some of that is Samsonov for sure).

This California trip is going to be big standings wise. If they go 0-3, something has to happen (firing, trade, something). In fact, 4 out of 6 points is a must imo.

They’ll find a way to go 3-0 and the love fest will be back on.

Dubas mis-handled those contracts in a bad bad way. No way to dance round that.

So he did hold out then; 1 day is 1 day. Still don't think it is a big deal.

BRING IT ON baby, I want to love this team... but they make it oh so hard.

Just because others didn't make it easy, doesn't mean his misplay wasn't the primary factor in the GA. That backcheck is less necessary if he's in position, not necessary if he makes the right read and not all that difficult if he doesn't cheat in the first place. Worst part? He's out of position because he's pouting about not getting the offensive chance, so he floats too high in the neutral zone and loses position. That ENG is an easy solution, buy time, outlet to Matthews downlow or make a better pass to Nylander. Instead Marner chooses to force the play to Nylander and it bites him.
He didn't make the best decision on either goal, but he was far from the primary factor in either.

All of Domi, Brodie, and McCabe are more to blame than Marner on the Jarvis goal. I would have liked to see him pick up the developing play a bit faster once McCabe missed the pass, but he wasn't cheating or even really out of position. He was never the furthest Leaf up and never past center ice. Brodie should not be attempting to pinch at the blueline there on the PK once the flubbed pass didn't get down the ice. That's what opened up the 2 on 1.

As for the ENG, I'm not sure what you mean by "make a better pass to Nylander". It was directly to him, where Nylander was set up for a quick shot. Nylander pushed up too close to the traffic and then called for the pass. Rielly didn't cover Nylander's decision and moved into a worse lane. He couldn't outlet to Matthews behind the net, because Tavares and a defender were in front of him. Bertuzzi was falling down in front of the net. He could have potentially held onto the puck and dispy doodled around the perimeter to buy time, but then we'd have people complaining about that, and that also has risks in that situation. Also, it's a goalie pulled situation in the final minute. Your creative players are going to need to take risks to try and tie it when the whole team doesn't show up. It's really lazy to just blame Marner for this.

We need to acquire picks. We have deep organizational flaws like no young defenders except Niemela. Most agree we need two solid dmen and Woll back just to win a round.I don't envy Tres job.

This season is all but over at this point. Nothing is going to save it. The team probably finishes 12th in the east missing the playoffs. It is done.

Season after next is the window. i think that'll be the most competitive team. 3 core primadonnas to get the points (still in prime) and hopefuly a deep solid team beyond that.

Sullivan probably gets fired by the end of the season. I wouldn’t mind holding out for him.

I like Gallant too.

I'm flabbergasted that you're assuming they're even going to make the playoffs at this point?

With this type of play, it's really in question.

Looks like this roster is on some serious borrowed time. They're too used to each other, they're tired of each other, they're playing like they've closed the chapter on this current setup and are just waiting for management to make a change. They're playing like they already know that the change is coming, so they're just going through the motions each game just waiting for it.

It really looks like the era of Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares has expired, and it's time to swap it out well before the playoffs. No way they can go back into round 1 (if they even make it) with this group. Didn't work last year, and is for sure not going to work this time around. Only a looney bin tenant (sorry is that offensive) would go into the upcoming playoffs with the same roster as last year which is essentially the same as what it is this year. These guys are cooked and as of the very last day of 2023, it's time to admit it's over for these players as a group and to start the process of changing them up.

And the goalies too. Hopeless. What a mess.

Treliving and co had better get started... there's a lot to fix here
Some prefer to use 88 as an own rental and risk he walks for nothing. Seeing these 4 lose 5 years is a row is not proof enough. Need to see it a couple of more times I guess.

Nothing has panned out this year lol

Bertuzzi, Domi, Reaves... big giant zeroes, all 3 of them

Samsonov... f*cking useless, someone mentioned they send him down and then bring him back again? lol... he's toast... nobody wants to see this guy's face ever again after last game..

The defense is non-exisistent..

face the music, this roster is nothing more than a .500 team as it is. It's reality.

We went from a good 10 or so players who had real hope at the start of the season to just a handful now .. beyond Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Tavares, Reilly and Knies, there's not much else. Even some of those 6 guys are in question moving forward

The end of 2023 should mark where these past 7 or 8 years end. Start a new chapter in January and begin making the changes. Treliving has been low-key since he arrived and has side-stepped this mess until now... with any luck his @SS is on the hot seat for the first time and we'll be seeing a lot more of him..because someone's gotta do something

I realize its easy to say fire the coach, but doesn't this seem like a team that completely tunes out their coach?

Keefe has been there forever and hasn't been able to change the feel of the team at all.
I dont hate Keefe but I also dont love him as the coach anymore. He definitely changed the team in a good way when he first took over. You could see it, but coaches have a shelf life and I think his message and bias's are getting stale and a new voice is needed. The big question is will it matter who is coach? Id like to think so but Im not so sure.

I agree, Marner is the most overrated winger in the NHL. He is a $6M player tops.
settle down
