Marner sucked
Tavares sucked
Matthews sucked
Nylander sucked
Murray sucked
Rielly REALLY sucked

Well deserved loss

Completely agree. Everyone else was "meh", but if the big 4 could have done a little something, maybe one big save from Murray, and maybe Reilly showing some game management instead of killing us on that 4th, we'd have ended up with at least one point. That looked like the west coast trip earlier on, 2.0.

Ok, win in Colorado on Saturday and this still ends up a good road trips stats wise.

Leaf fans stop ignoring my plea!!!

Listen up!

There's a goalie in the farm system named Joseph Woll. 6-0 so far this season with a .935 SV%.

YOU WILL SEE HIM this season.

He will touch you.

He will bring TOR to the promised land!!!!!

Agreed! These road trips are like a game of bowling... get a strike on the next one that that last shot wasn't so bad.

2-and-1 roady right after xmas would suffice, despite the less than inspiring defensive play.

Some concerning things about this game:

Riellys gambling ways
Murray didn’t make enough saves
Matthews with another poor game
Holl was too skittish
Another game where the opposition gets more pp”s than us

Finally, How the hell does the league allow a professional team to play in that arena? That little puke of a commissioner with the Napoleon complex is a moron

Big 4 didn't contribute at all. Nylander, Tavares, and Marner at least looked interested, but didn't get the job done. Matthews looked like he couldn't have given less of a crap and Bunting was more interested in causing **** than playing hockey. That top PP was an absolute joke that was embarrassed by Rielly and our 2nd unit.

Depth forwards mostly showed up (except for ZAR and Hunt; they were both terrible), and I think even the defense played very well for the most part. There were some miscues and every single one of them ended up in the back of our net. Murray had some tough chances against, but he let pretty much every one in the net and just didn't look like he was prepared to play at all. Vejmelka was making saves. Murray was not, and Samsonov/Murray have had sub .900 save percentages with negative expected saves in 7 of our last 9 games. Leafs are still 5-3-1 in those games, but the team is carrying the goaltending right now.

Other than experimenting with the 4th line, I don't think much needs to change. This team is still playing well, but we obviously need more out of our top players and goaltending than what we received today (and in the case of goaltending, what we have mostly received in the past few weeks).

I have a theory when it comes to the Leafs showing up to big games and crushing bottom feeders...hear me out for a second:

Imagine getting swept in the season series against a team that is only kept afloat from profit sharing from teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, getting handed tens of thousands of dollars from pointless fines that were gifted to them courtesy of the Toronto Maple Leafs to pay for a shitty peewee league arena to house a shitty team that no one cares about. That’s… embarrassing. 😆

There’s absolutely no chance this team does anything in the first round, absolutely none.

Goaltending has regressed back to Toskala levels as expected.

That’s what happens when you smother all of your money into four guys and half of them are invisible for most of the season.
This was a cut and paste post from late October. It too will not age well. The team has just played a few poor games, and still dominated possession. Another head scratching game from the refs. It’s a different team than in the past. We’ll be fine.

maybe try jt and matthews together, and nylander and marner together.
Honestly, why not? An experiment of Tavares on the wing and Nylander at center. Eventually Tavares will be transitioning to the wing anyways. Or third line center down the road when he resigns for dirt cheap.

their go to phrase was " one of the best at working down low" and this was when the bottom 6 was working the o-zone
Nope. They were talking about how much more difficult the Leafs are to play against this year and - direct quote - "maybe this team is different".

Now, we all know the franchise is cursed and so it won't be, but that's what they said.

Fourth goal was caused by Rielly’s poor play. He’s just not a very good defender who gambles way too much and is caught out of position as a result. For someone who gambles so much you’d think he’d have a goal after 20 games played.

4th goal could have just as easily been attributed to Matthews' lazy effort on that entire play. Or an iffy Liljegren pass that forced Rielly to move the puck up the boards when he probably did not want to, and after that, Rielly was in a tough spot.

But Matthews spent the entire turnover standing at center ice watching the entire thing unfold. He just let Crouse take that neutral zone puck off the boards without any pressure, two guys attacked Rielly at once, and Rielly's best move was actually to ensure that the puck never got in... Which he did try to do but it didn't work. He was forced to take that risk and make that move because Matthews decided to take the shift off.

First goal had a lot to do with Matthews too. Sure the collision sucked, but Matthews was coasting to the puck and Bjudstad just chipped it right by him. That collision doesn't matter if Matthews does his job, but he wasn't mentally in the game at all and he deserves his -4.

If Matthews was even just invisible tonight, or snake bitten like Nylander/Marner/Tavares, we probably win this game. Depth and defense picked him up. Problem is, he was noticeable for all of the wrong reasons and we lost because of it. 29% on draws, had some good looks but totally muffed all of them, forcing plays that were not there, and the top PP was useless. He was still putting in a good effort in offensively, and IDK if he was just focusing on scoring at home or something, but the defensive effort and details we've come to expect from him were not there at all today, and I would hope that Keefe makes that perfectly clear. At least Tavares/Marner/Nylander looked like they were giving a crap at both ends and just didn't have their way.

So nice to read some of the comments from our fan base who show up after a loss. How you folks been, well I hope. I've missed some of your usual astute takes: 'sucks', 'garbage' and 'useless' are some of my favorites. Thank goodness we won't see Arizona in the playoffs this year, we'd be out in 3.

It's an 82 game season, some teams own other teams, and some nights your team just doesn't have it. As much as I don't like to see them play like they did tonight, I take solace in knowing we've beat Boston, New Jersey and the Lightning.

On another note, wishing one and all a Happy New Year, with good health and prosperity to you and yours.

GLG!

It's insane to think about how bad the Leafs have been historically vs the Yotes. They're the Buffalo of the West.

With that said, I hope Arizona enjoys this win, because they just lost 2 points in the Bedard lottery.
