Goaltending has been slumping a bit lately

What a joke of an arena though. It also seems like scalpers buy most of the tickets there because I've seen games where there were a lot of seats empty

You'd think Matthews would want to put up a Hattie in front of his family however

Last night the goaltender didnt stand on his head, and the give away ended up in the back of the net.

They’ve got 46 games left to sort it out.

We will NEVER win anything of note with him as our supposed #1 D. I have been saying it for years now and always get lambasted. The guy just Cannot play DEFENSE period. He's very low IQ, muffin shot, dosent block shots etc etc....He skates like the wind is tantamount to saying he's all dressed up with no where to go....clueless....this team and the mgmt DISGUST ME....and I've been following them for more than 50 years...oh, how I miss the good old days when players had heart, played with heart & HATED TO LOSE....these prima donnas are going no where....I hope everyone gets canned!
Exactly what I’ve been saying too for soooo long. With Reilly we are not winning anything!
His first long term absence and the leafs dominate the league. It’s so fricken obvious they gotta get rid of this guy.

Us losing games like that is why we will never catch Boston this season. Just lock us into that Tampa series lol
Well, Boston lost to Arizona so it's a wash..

They are just going to have to beat Bos in the remaining 3 games and pick up 2 more wins along the way

The 1st game Reilly returns they get bombed. Coincidence? Hell no. Also, his bad habits rub off on all the other players...another huge negative....
Dubas & Co have to go. Hopefully new mgmt will view this team through a cleaner lens and realize what they have and make adjustments accordingly. The "WE CAN & WE WILL" bullshit will finally come to an end.

About last night's game:

The good - the first period

Thr bad - the rest of the game, Murray, Rielly and the 27 Coyote fans.

Did I mention Rielly and Murray?

We just signed him to a 7-year extension with a NTC good luck. He ain’t going anywhere and this game isn’t just on Rielly. Our PK has straight up been a disaster. We gave up two PP goals.

Also two of Rielly’s -3’s were from empty nets. Liljegren and Brodie were legit fire fires tonight. At least come correct. People love to change the narrative. Weren’t Rielly and Timmins a big part of giving us a 3-1 lead?

Another frustrating loss to the yotes. Not much more you can say about it. We had our opportunities to put the game away and didn't. Felt like we got away from our recent identity for large portions of this game. We were incredibly sloppy on the back end. Seemed like every mistake ended up in the back of our net. We needed Murr to make a save on a couple of the GA. Not throwing the entire blame on him, we put him in some tough spots, but he was just below average last night and even an average showing would have likely made the difference.

We still controlled the lion share of every advanced and conventional metric despite not getting the result, and overall not looking good. I am just hoping there isn't more of this type of effort.

It's a long season, there will be tough losses along the way. This is just one you want to put in the rear view ASAP. Nothing else you can really do unfortunately

putting aside the pathetic loss, this game was hard on the eyes. wtf is the nhl doing. this is embarrassing.
Coyote fan coming in peace. I was born and raised in Alberta and cheered for the Leafs when I was young, the Keon era. Moved to Edmonton and cheered for the Oilers when they became part of the NHL. Now I live in Phoenix, and I cheer for my home town Yotes. It saddens me to read all these negative and snarky posts from you Leaf fans, who has the richest franchise that has won jack shit the last half century. As a franchise the Yotes have had their issues, but finally we are on the right track with a new owner and building on the horizon. It would be nice to have friendly banter among posters, instead of acting like little kids not getting their way. Anyway, back to the game. It was a very entertaining game and the best team won on this night. The difference between winning and losing in the NHL is very small and any team can win on a given night. You guys have a good day and hope to meet you in the SC finals in a few years.:)

I'm not referring to a 1 game sample. I'm referring to his career....

It's not the losses, it's the type of game opponents play that the Leafs top talent have trouble.with.

They have as much talent as any team in the league but noone would compare this teams talent as driven as that of Boston or Tampa.

Matthews has played a smart two way game this year but something is up with him. My guess is he is playing through an injury like a good soldier, wanting to will himself to assure the team makes the playoffs. Sundin, Clark and Gilmour all did the same at times.

They've played well all season, not with this defensive effort though. Defense and goaltending has been their strength. Not tonight.

Is the guy constantly playing through injury now though? Will he ever be healthy?

And last night, he was lazy and unfocused. Not a common theme for him, but he was out of it.

It's been a great Xmas season for Arizona so far. A $100K gift and a victory. It don't get much better than that.

Post game thread reminds me of....

"I give Keefe until game 20"

"When did you know it was over for this group"

Typical loser Leaf fan overreaction.
Mark it up to PTSD. It's real.

I thought they played an excellent first. Didn't give up much in the second at all but still managed to give away a goal and they pretty much pulled a disappearing act in the third. A lot of perimeter play, a mistake that ended up in the net and a poor PP.

Let's see how this trends before we conjure up the ghosts of seasons past.

Looked purple at the end. Horrible.
I was trying to decide if it was a brownout and the lighting dimmed, or just a problem with the broadcast.

I see they can't even afford colours for their uniforms, but had to go brown and black.

Crappy game right from the opening whistle.

Stumbling bumbling normally steady Gio tripped over Holl who was doing, I don’t know what. Rielly with a bad luck crappy bounce on his first game back .

Matthews looked frustrated constantly.

Murray was ordinary

High school hockey teams have bigger crowds.

Mullet arena sucks.

Officials sucked again

Leafs sucked last night.

On to Colorado. Do we get blown out?
