I just got back from the game... and what a game it was. Yikes

It was just terrible... sloppy D coverage, like just awful, again too many high danger chances against.. breakaways, sloppy passes leading to coughing up the puck, odd man situations, just disorganized.. maybe not as disinterested as other times, but just terrible play. Then Samsonov... I mean, that second goal, not really his fault, but the other four... those should have been saveable... and Jones, well... I'm not sure what to say, the team had kind of given up by then, but he wasn't any good... just a terrible embarassing game all around.
This team (core) is not worth paying to watch when playing a lesser opponent. I’ve lived near Detroit since 2017 and I’ve been suckered into some brutal performances. I will never pay to watch them play in Detroit again unless Detroit suddenly becomes a contender.

I don't think Keefe is the problem here, but then I don't think he's the solution either... does that make sense?
Keefe is a big part of the problem. This team has no structure whatsoever. If it was two or three guys, then it's not the coach.... But it's the whole damned team. Then he brilliantly put Sammy in when everyone KNEW Sammy was in a bad place mentally, and you could tell immediately that the players were thinking about it. When Jones was in the last couple of games, the team was moving guys out of the way and letting him see the shots; with Sammy, multiple players skate or dive in front of shooters trying to stop shots from getting through. You can SEE that the players are petrified of letting a shot go on goal when Sammy is in the net...

Come on, guys - there were a few good things in that game:

- Matty scored to extend his lead
- Willy extended his point streak to 10
- Liljegren had a good game (assists on both goals and 5 blocks)
- Samsonov may have played his last game
- we won't face Buffalo in the playoffs.

How many years have we been trying to fix the goaltending and defence…it seems like a decade….dubas played EA NHL22 on this roster, traded away good young players and players on good caphits plus whatever picks for players that ended up on LTIR (muzzin) or just never panned out. Shanahan and dubas are complete incompetence.

Make that 34-76 all time in Buffalo.

It will never ever ever ever ever ever ever change.

In 53 years both teams have had different players, different coaches, different fans and different arenas. But the one thing that has forever remained the same is that the Leafs will lose whenever they play in Buffalo. Doesn't matter if Toronto is 21-0 and Buffalo is 0-21, the 22nd game will go down as a Leafs loss. They can fill out the record book even before the game starts.

So tonight really means f* all. A game in Buffalo is an automatic loss regardless of how good or bad either team is playing during their season. Doesn't matter who's playing, who's in net, who the coaches are, who the refs are, who's in the stands or who the cheerleaders and mascots are, it will be a Leaf loss and you can update the records before the first puck drop.

Why is that?

Anyone have an answer to this?

We are all living in a simulation and the ones who made the simulation got a bad sense of humor?

I often wonder if it's how they get down there? If it's a comfortable bus ride in the middle of winter, late morning, get into town feeling groggy. It's Buffalo, and you just want to go home. Not an excuse since the Metropolitan Divisions are travelling around like this all the time.

They need to raise the banner in Buffalo for their next game.

"We beat the Leafs in December 9-3".

This was Buffalo's stanley cup

This is not a serious team. I know this will trigger people but Nylander should be on the trade block. They won't be able to afford to re-sign him and he's the only top player they have even a semblance of control over. Even if you think they can make a run in the playoffs, he isn't the difference anyway. Either trade him for a good defenseman, a good goalie or prospects/picks. I really like Nylander, this isn't some hate post. They have to cut their losses with this core at some point.
The problem is that he and Matty are the only ones of the core actually earning their paychecks right now.

1. Goaltending tonight was brutal, this won't be the end of Sammy but he won't be back next season. He gives me the Campbell vibes, just not strong enough between the ears.

2. Team personal on the back end is starting to get exposed, having to run 2 AHL dman in Timmins/Lagesson/Benoit every night hurts, even when Gio is back, they are still 1 to 2 good d-man away from icing a good d-core

3. Team d-zone play is getting exposed hard, the fact that Keefe with a struggling goaltender and a AHL 3rd pairing d-pair hasn't tighten it up is a bit concerning. At the end of the day, the d-zone play and defenseman we have, it's not a championship caliber team.

What I don’t get is we were more injured on D and G last year, at points we had our top pair and both starters injured at the same time. We had a Gio-Holl top pair, Mete-Hollowell playing regular minutes at a combined 98 pounds and 12 inch wingspan, all of this in front out our AHL backup.

We averaged around 2GAA during that stretch and made it look easy. Same coach same core same systems.

It's hard to play relaxed when you have no confidence in your goalie

Sammy has no f***ing clue where the puck is half the time

Leafs are now 25th tied with the Oilers in GA: 3.43 gpg
Last season they finished 7th with 2.68 gpg

Over the years, has Keefe coached with no structure whatsover? Not even close, he's a very structured coach..... it's not him. Sometimes they play that structured system, sometimes they don't... I mean that should be obvious to anyone watching.

But, maybe the players have stopped listening to him... so maybe it's time for a change... I don't think HE's the problem, but he needs to be replaced, so that maybe they listen to someone.

As far as Sammy is concerned... I mean, he's a guy that they need to get going, so they tried him... and they needed to try him. They need to have Sammy and Woll playing well, and healthy, if they are going to have any chance at all... so they did what they needed to, and it didn't work out. It's one game in the middle of the season, so it doesn't mean too much... but it does answer some questions for us. At this point, Sammy can't be trusted for a bit here, and I'm not even sure how you get his game back now... but I'm not mad at the coach for trying to get the guy who was supposed to be their #1 goalie going... when he was very good last year, and they need him to be good again this year.... some are putting far too much importance into one game.

Willy and Knies were the only players who weren't minus.

Knies not on for a shortie against helped him, while Willy's shortie helped him.
Him being known for bad D must baffle a lot of haters in a game like this. 10 game pointstreek i belive.

Nylander should not have treated the players to this https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/newsroom/corporate-news/ikea-meatball-lovers-rejoice-limited-edition-turkey-sized-meatball-launched-for-christmas-pub4c6a3200
before the game

Not to be dramatic, but you can mark down tonight as the day the Leafs moved on from Sammy. It's just over for this year, you can't trust him right now and I don't see how he gets a net back short of b2b or emergency right now. It just can't happen. Won't be back next year.

Straight up, the Leafs were killing Buffalo, killing them. The shots were like 8-2 Sabres or something in the first at some point, and I'm looking at as "that's nice, the Leaf are killing them". All over them. Then a crappy goal, and answer, and a crappy goal, answer more, and eventually it just has no answer. They were winning that game and it just got given away with goals you gotta have saves on and that's it.

I don't usually over-react and beyond that I especially don't tend to get on goalies, and I've been hoping Sammy gets going, but that's gotta be it, sorry buddy.

AM's goal was a mic drop, wow.

So Leafs need:
2 top 4 D
a G
A fourth line RW
possibly a 3rd line centre
There is to much to fix on this team.
I said at the beginning of the year to take a step back.
Didn't know Sammy was going to shit the bed.
Hold on to our first it could be a top 15 pick.
