Not to be dramatic, but you can mark down tonight as the day the Leafs moved on from Sammy. It's just over for this year, you can't trust him right now and I don't see how he gets a net back short of b2b or emergency right now. It just can't happen. Won't be back next year.

Straight up, the Leafs were killing Buffalo, killing them. The shots were like 8-2 Sabres or something in the first at some point, and I'm looking at as "that's nice, the Leaf are killing them". All over them. Then a crappy goal, and answer, and a crappy goal, answer more, and eventually it just has no answer. They were winning that game and it just got given away with goals you gotta have saves on and that's it.

I don't usually over-react and beyond that I especially don't tend to get on goalies, and I've been hoping Sammy gets going, but that's gotta be it, sorry buddy.

AM's goal was a mic drop, wow.
According to Keefe's post game , it's about helping Sammy find his game. So, Fans and media.... We can help by being patient ! ( as our playof standings melt away)

Hearing the Sabre fans do the Goal count brings back a lot of memories.
We had season tickets at the Aud back in the 70's and they did that chant every game, nice tradition for them.

They mentioned Timmins dad Danny having tickets at one point last night. Many did from our area and none were Sabre fans, we just all loved hockey and it was a fairly easy drive. Sabres had some good teams back then. A 9/10 year old ACC1224 was at the fog game in 75, lots of good memories but scary arena for a kid.

Second in the division and third in the conference by winning percentage. Yeah, just melting away. Might be time to bring the exaggeration thread back from the dead.

I wish the Sabres would get back to being respectable. Flyers look like they’re headed in the right direction, but they’re really in just in the Torts bump phase.

Absolute garbage effort level from team .. pathetic .. team was not ready to compete from puck drop .. skill alone does not win games .. hard work still trumps skill alone .. our D was ECHL level last night and G same .. boys will come back as there are one offs over a long season but it is da characteristics of our past teams showing up too many times .. Sammy needs a little break from net to compose himself .. Leafs throwing him out there to media was pathetic too .. grow up Keefer .. you handled question of Sammy's mental health like a kindergartener .. you of all former players should know as you were abused yourself .. folks on here need to lay off Sammy too .. dude needs a break, stay on his meds and chill out and practice .. our D just does not have da capability to help out a tender in need .. it is just not even close to good enough .. hurry up Tree make da D fixes asap

If you peel back the onion, they are 9-8-13. Bruins are 15-5-10. Panthers 16-12-4.

Regular season performance means nothing. The Panthers and Bruins were good examples last year.

What remains unanswered is how this group performs in the playoffs. As it stands, we need to solve our problem in net to even have a shot.

With what assets (1st, Minten, Cowan, Knies)? Last I heard he ran out of magic beans.

I would start by trading Brodie and Timmer .. not sure what they can return .. but try a deal where you move lower round picks, prospects and D on team now .. even robertson too .. wingers are expendable

Timmins and Robertson don’t get you anything in return and Brodie has almost played himself out of being a viable trade commodity.

Well speaking of memories and 1975 Leafs vs Sabres do recall this game at Maple Leaf Gardens?

This game brought back memories of that game for me as I thought in the 3rd period history was about to repeat itself.

Gilbert Perreault 3 goals 3 assists in a 11 to 3 blowout of the Leafs.

We had a good shift or two prior, but really weren't very good overall. Deserved to lose, but felt more like a 4-2 game than a 9-3 game

Whoa your old enough to have watched Dave Keon and Bojre Salming play

Most of the people on these boards probably didn't see those guys (myself included, didnt become a fan until 2010ish)

Didn't the sabres used to own the leafs for a long time?

I remember reading that before the Sabres stsrted their 13 year playoff drought we had a .350 or .400 pt % vs them

One night in Buffalo, don't remember the exact date late 70's, I saw a line of Bobby Hull, Dave Keon and Gordie Howe play for the Hartford Whalers against the Sabres. They must have been close to 150 years in age combined.

It doesn't work that way. Points are points. The league doesn't take them away at the end of the season because fans don't like how they were obtained.
Nor do they have any meaning once the season is over. It's all how you play at the end of the day. Correct though, what the fans feel is meaningless.

Geez some serious firepower there

A top 4 player all time, another who is 6th to 11th all time

Keon being one of the best two way guys of his generation and a complete winner.

Modern day Crosby + OV + Toews if they played together this year

Yup .. I'm old enough to have seen and remembered the last Leafs Stanley Cup in 1967.

Davey Keon was & is my first and all-time favourite Leaf player of all time. Tim Horton's wasn't a Doughnut shop he was a Dman of the defense of the Leafs Cup winning teams in the 1960's.

I've been waiting 56 years and counting for the next Leafs Stanley Cup.. :wg:

Heck this game yesterday wasn't even the worst beating the Leafs took in Buffalo. Check out this beauty from 1981. Never mind 9 goals against in a game how about a single period was the same score 9 goals to 3?

There are a few of us here who remember the Leafs winning the Cup at least once.

Four for me, although the ones from the early 60s are more memories of them winning than memories of the games.

Listening to the first period on the radio with my grandmother, then watching the rest on TV.
