I understand the saying that we lost home ice advantage. I didn't need an explanation as to what that meant. What I was alluding to is that it places a more dire connotation to the outlook of the series. As true as the saying may be in context.Re: Home Ice
Tampa Bay can now win 3 games at home with the advantage of home ice and this series could be over in 6.
If Tampa Bay wins game #2 the series could be over in 4 if Tampa never relinquishes home ice again.
It sure feels like Leafs are further behind in the series when home ice is the measuring stick.
Except for Bunting's really dumb play, most of our penalties came because we lost position one-on-one.In what can only be called a classic Leaf playoff game, the Leafs did what Leafs do. Choke in epic fashion.
We've known for about 5 months we would be playing Tampa. We were playing at home. Our cement head of a coach puts out our 3rd , then 4th line, AT HOME to start the game and we get scored on. We play a season to win home ice, to determine who we want on the ice and Keefe decides I want my 3rd line and 4th line on the ice to start the game, with a Rocket Richard winner, a 99 point guy a 40 goal guy and a former Conn Smythe and Selke winner and a ppg 2nd line center on the bench. Jebus!
We knew the refs would be looking for us and we take EIGHT PIM's, almost a full period short handed, was there any discussion about playing with in the lines of the game?
In every possible way we were not prepared to play, we had almost a week of rest to prepare for Tampa and we looked like we were on a moonshine bender for the last week.
I eye balled this, I might have made a couple of errors. This tells us we were either grossly not prepared and chasing the game or the refs clearly had an agenda. The refs call a couple of late ones against TB to make it look like the game was not called as lop sided as it was. I think we were simply not prepared to play the game as it was going to be called and played tonight.
Toronto 8 penalties
Dallas 7 penalties
Minny 7 penalties
Edmonton 7 penalties
NYI 4 penalties
Carolina 4 penalties
LA 4 penalties
Rangers 4 penalties
TB 4 penalties
NJ 3 penalties
Jets 3 penalties
LV 3 penalties
Colorado 3 penalties
Florida 2 penalties
Boston 2 penalties
Seattle 2 penalties
Except for Bunting's really dumb play, most of our penalties came because we lost position one-on-one.
Credit Tampa for outplaying us and earning them, rather than blaming the refs.
It absolutely matters.
If it was a hard fought 3-2 loss do you think there would be the same amount of concern?
I myself had already determined that the young core don't have that "big game" killer instinct. I have the posts from back then to prove it.Lmao did you actually just write that you were on the brink of giving up on our core at 21/22 years old? I’m sorry, that’s ridiculous. The earliest consideration should have been the Montreal debacle
Except this isnt true at all. Marner and Matthews generated chances at a far greater rate relative to their matchups than anyone in the game. But it is not a SPEED bump it is a lack of SPEED from our top players who got caved every shift 5on5 all game long .. SPEED kills .. it kills Mitch's dekeing and passing game as he has no time and space with puck rendering him useless .. Matty couldn't keep up to either Cirelli or Point they skated circles around him all night long .. no team can have ice tilted that badly in a game and have any hope of winning .. if Tampa bring that speed for 3 more games it is over and it doesn't matter who plays goal and/or who coaches
Glad you used 'we' because you are.I doubt Colorado fans or NJ fans are overreacting like we are

I know that when you're at 6 (and possibly soon 7) straight 1st round losses, losing 3 first rounds in a row seems like nothing. But that's not really true. Already on these forums the "first round leafs" had become a meme. A lot of people were already saying things like "Let's give them one more go and if it doesn't work trade one of the elite young forwards for an elite young D." I was on that train since the 2019 Boston series loss.
There’s passion and then there’s acting like a child and/or over-dissecting a single gameFans are supposed to be passionate, no?
I used we because Leafs fans get clumped together. I am not overreacting but the majority definitely is.Glad you used 'we' because you are.
Not just that. The lack of fight in them when the game was over after the 2nd period was appalling.
They laid down and accepted defeat yesterday. No fight at all.
Blaming the refs for the loss just displays a lack of understanding what you're watching.Except for Bunting's really dumb play, most of our penalties came because we lost position one-on-one.

So others are because you say they are and you're not because you say you're not? There’s passion and then there’s acting like a child and/or over-dissecting a single game

This was the most annoying part of last night.
Playing badly is one thing, that third period is a whole other.
He challenged the goal on goalie interference. The problem is that after a review I don't think they ever change based on a challenge.Did Keefe call a review on a goal that was already reviewed?
I still can't get over Holl on the 1st goal of the game though lol Perry slowly gliding around the net, right into Holl's direction...just f***ing hit him and that goal doesn't happen. Instead he just aimlessly waves his stick at Perry as he lets him move to the front. I have actually defended Holl from time to time around here but that straight up can't happen.
Blaming Marner and Matthews that they couldn't overcome 7 goals is worse. It is willfully obtuse and painfully ignorant.Blaming the refs for the loss just displays a lack of understanding what you're watching.
So others are because you say they are and you're not because you say you're not?
Hard to argue with that logic.
Weird argument, there’s lots of proof of others overreacting and no proof that I have.So others are because you say they are and you're not because you say you're not?
Hard to argue with that logic.
Listen I was at game and there were 40 of us who all played in O or above and we all met a beer after game .. every single guy bar none said team was completely outskated all over ice on both 1st and 2nd lines .. it was a men against boys game my friend .. like taking candy from a baby .. no speed and even less compete .. Matty Mitch JT Rielly are flat out WAY WAY WAY TOO SLOW for playoff hockey .. they just don't have another gearExcept this isnt true at all. Marner and Matthews generated chances at a far greater rate relative to their matchups than anyone in the game.
They weren't unopposed but some context is important here
Did they play to their potential?....no but they werent being owned either. This is just revisionist bullshit.
