I still can't get over Holl on the 1st goal of the game though lol Perry slowly gliding around the net, right into Holl's direction...just f***ing hit him and that goal doesn't happen. Instead he just aimlessly waves his stick at Perry as he lets him move to the front. I have actually defended Holl from time to time around here but that straight up can't happen.
When holl is your second highest dman for ice time the coach should be fired

After listening to players post game comments I can’t understand how JT is the captain rather than Matthews. JT’s comments about the calls was just a loser mentality IMHO.
Didn't even care to watch but that's not surprising. If at least he didn't get paid so much i wouldn't care because he has some nice tools but man we're way overpaying for what he brings.

It's just words man. This group doesn't have any mentality whatsoever. What more are people needing to see? They are neither pro, nor against anything. They just kind of exist.
Cool, so what do we do? Cry about it on a message board?

Not sure how ppl are blaming the core, I think they played pretty good, Tavares was good on PP. The second line is terrible, I blame the coach, it worked when Marner was on it not Nylander. Bunting is bad all season don't know why he started on the first. I think him getting suspended is a blessing.

Absolute total embarrassment of da highest order .. hard to understand for those of us unfortunate to have attended this one .. JT Mitch Matty Holl Rielly Sammy were ALL beyond USELESS .. I knew Matty and Mitch would struggle with playoff SPEED as neither can amp up their speed 10% for playoff hockey (they both give their all in regular season hockey played at a slower pace) but both also completely gave up trying too .. they both need to be traded this off season for lots of picks on da rebuild with new GM .. when you can't keep up you at least help out your team mate by throwing some hits .. both need a night OFF to watch a game from press box .. JT is slow in regular season hockey so last night he was da turtle and his only value is faceoffs and power plays thats it .. Holl you could see it on his 1st shift Perry coming round da net and he could have knocked him into yesterday with a big hit as he was open to take a beating but he got scared and let Perry take our net (he comes out just for that scared play alone) .. Rielly you could see last night his speed is gone, he can survive regular season hockey if he stays in shape another couple years, but his days of contributing in playoff hockey are over .. and his lack of defense on da 3rd period goal against shows hw has zero understanding how to play D a complete and total joke .. Sammy while like I told you guys there was a very good reason Caps gave up their 1st round pick for nothing -- mental health -- it is not a joke and while I do feel bad from him as he has all da tools no playoff team can have a mental midget in their net ..

When those 6 guys play like that there is nothing Willy and ROR can do to combat it .. ROR played his grinding game pretty well and Willy, who fortunately does have playoff SPEED (our only top player with it), he can create here and there despite limitations of JT but in overall game it meant nothing ..

If Tampa plays at that speed for 3 more games it is all over for this MGMT group, JT, Matty, Mitrch and Rielly will all be gone in summer likely .. I am still not sure Tampa can keep up that frantic pace for 3 more games but if they do then nothing this squad can do about it .. squad does not have da SPEED to keep up to Tampa .. grinding or not

This is pretty spot on.

I'll also add that Samsonov looked very nervous, Marner didn't want to engage and the overall play was very sloppy in terms of puck possession.

Tampa looked very composed. Toronto forgot how to play hockey for the first 20.
Yup,

I am more upset with our start and overall play then I am the officiating TBH. We cannot control officiating. We can control the way we start the game, and we were terrible. It's so funny, right before puck drop the camera panned to ZAR on the bench and you could see him take 1 deep breath and close his eyes. As someone who is an anxious person myself, that is exactly what I do to ground myself in moments of anxiety. I just had a feeling he was not prepared mentally for that moment, and sure as shit the first time he touches the puck he makes a mistake that leads to a goal.

That is by no means to single out ZAR, he was not alone. The entire team looked and played the same way as him to begin the game. But that needs to change going forward. We cannot wait for game defining moments to occur before we wake up and get into the game. We need to create those game defining moments and dictate play from the drop of the first puck.

Like i said before, It is a long series. We have a lot of hockey left to play. I really strongly dislike when people say things like "we lost home ice". It kind of insinuates that we are further behind in the series then we actually are. The bolts still need to win 3 more games. They are hardly in a position to pop the car into neutral and let the thing run out to the finish line. Plenty of hockey left. Sure, last night was a bit of a speed bump, but we can overcome this no problem.

Good question. Not tried but I liked how knies played with Willy so slot him there.
That said, move JT to the M&M line.
Your all doing the same thing keefe is doing by loading up two lines and a useless third line

Janrok matthews nylander
Bunting jvr marner
Knies ror kerfoot/lafferty
The rest

Ror can help knies defensively lafferty/kerfoot have speed

We need three lines
Lafferty kerfoot janrok zar kampf aciari none of these guys can drive their own line. They are all complimentary players and need that guy to drive the line

No announcement of supplemental discipline for Bunting as yet. That surprises me.

I realize that, but yesterday's game was closer than it appeared, 3 goals were dieectly referee assisted. The soft slashing and holding penalty and the goal that didn't cross the line. This game was really 4-3. Yes they didn't play well, but neither did Tampa Bay, at least even strength. The Leafs need to stay out of the box and they'll be fine.
We will have the sane ref.

They showed an angle where the puck crossed the line.

The crazy thing is Keefe was try to play the match game with Cooper.
Which copper won.
We have prove that if we skate TB can't keep up but we didn't till it was to late.
Keefe let your big boys play and let Cooper figure it out .

Re: Home Ice

Tampa Bay can now win 3 games at home with the advantage of home ice and this series could be over in 6.

If Tampa Bay wins game #2 the series could be over in 4 if Tampa never relinquishes home ice again.

It sure feels like Leafs are further behind in the series when home ice is the measuring stick.

I said it before, Keefe needed to focus on building a line with O’Reilly and Marner that can go up against Tampa’s top line yet go from defence to offence on a switch.

Kerfoot - O’Reilly - Marner
Jarnkrok - Matthews - Nylander
Bunting - Tavares - Lafferty
Aston Reese - Kampf - Acciari

McCabe - Brodie
Rielly - Liljegren
Giordano - Holl

The lines I would have preferred. Instead of Keefe spent the last month going with a 11-7 format only to just completely ruin any line chemistry there was.

Even the last few games we won, we got outplayed and outshot in all of them. The trend clearly continued into game one of the playoffs minus the W.
I like that idea. :thumbu:

While I think there’s a lot of room for improvement with them, I think our top 6 (minus Bunting) gave us a chance to win yesterday. They converted on the PP and the top line scored once at ES. 3 goals should be enough to at least keep a game close if not outright win.

The PK was abysmal. The defense looked like the ones we saw in the Babcock era. We all kinda expect Rielly, Holl and Schenn to suck, but even McCabe, Brodie and Gio looked terrible. Samy let the nerves get to him (which also occurred during his return game against the Caps) and the bottom 6 was invisible. To top it off, Bunting played like the moron we all feared he was.

I think I’m not as down on the “core” as some of you guys here after that game but that can change if they lose game 2 as well.

I just put a ruler down the red line and it crosses over the top of the puck. The skate, pad, and puck block the red line.
When the puck is flat, easy to determine whether puck is over the line or now. What is the rule when the puck is on end. In this case the part of the puck touching the ice is clearly over the red line.

The league needs to release the evidence they based their call on.

But it is not a SPEED bump it is a lack of SPEED from our top players who got caved every shift 5on5 all game long .. SPEED kills .. it kills Mitch's dekeing and passing game as he has no time and space with puck rendering him useless .. Matty couldn't keep up to either Cirelli or Point they skated circles around him all night long .. no team can have ice tilted that badly in a game and have any hope of winning .. if Tampa bring that speed for 3 more games it is over and it doesn't matter who plays goal and/or who coaches

It's just words man. This group doesn't have any mentality whatsoever. What more are people needing to see? They are neither pro, nor against anything. They just kind of exist.
This might be my favorite post on this board.

I would rather them have no mentality than a victim mentality though.

The core had already shown their true colours a long time ago...Matty and Marner demanding the moon on their RFA contracts having won and accomplished nothing, while McDavid took a discount and signed 8 years with the Oilers...Matty and Marner signed those shorter term deals so that they could squeeze the organization for every dollar they could get...these are not the kind of players to build a championship team around...Pastrnak recently signed for $11.25 million over 8 years, but what's Marner gonna ask for in his next contract? $13 milion plus? lmao...Boston has a state tax, so can't use that Florida no-state-tax excuse. And Rielly, my goodness...how could a dman get caught off guard so often and can't play a 2-on-1?

So show me Tampas third line and explain how one can argue than any of them should go on the 1st or second line
