Not sure how ppl are blaming the core, I think they played pretty good, Tavares was good on PP. The second line is terrible, I blame the coach, it worked when Marner was on it not Nylander. Bunting is bad all season don't know why he started on the first. I think him getting suspended is a blessing.
I wouldn't blame the core but they need to step it up and show more urgency.

Lots of time left but they need to win game 2 now or the road gets way tougher.

Leafs fans as a whole have had an embarrassing reaction to this loss. It’s one game and it doesn’t matter how they lost, move on to game 2.

The core (Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Reilly) are the ONLY four players that have been a part of all 6 playoff series losses. Two different gm's, two different coaches, like 5 different goalies, and EVERY other role player and position has been changed numerous times. That same core is ZERO AND NINE in series-clinching games.

The proof is in the pudding. The problem IS the core. This series (that sure as f*** started horribly) is their LAST chance to prove that THEY aren't the problem. And realistically it should have happened years ago. I was on the brink of giving up on the core when they lost game 6 and 7 to Boston in 2019, but the loss to (lol) COLUMBUS solidified it for me.

Cool, so what do we do? Cry about it on a message board?
I can't speak for others, but I've been banging the drum of huge change since the Columbus series. We could've saved f***ing years of this.

But no, we're still here hoping that every previous game is the one where the organization grows up.

well. on the bright side, once they are eliminated on Monday I can just focus on fishing, golfing, and gardening

At the end of the day it’s a loss, we know what the team can do.

No doubt. It's atleast a 4 game series
But how you loss also matters. We got spanked last night

We werent' ready to play, against a team we knew we were going to play like 4 months ago

I am ok with losses, I am not happy not showing up when you have 3 10+ million dollar players in your team.

Totally unacceptable

"The Maple Leafs have driven their fans to the point that they've had enough of this. They've had enough. And any leaf fan that tells you they still 'belief' this morning is LYING to your face or is paid to say that."

Hahaha, man that made me laugh. It's so true. And there's so many in this thread doing it. I agree with him. I genuinely believe that everyone here saying that is lying to us, or are paid to say it.

Fans are supposed to be passionate, no?
Depends. Some fans were upset because we were too loud last night. Said we were being obnoxious and noisy. My son is 11….. the usher told the angry fans to go home if they wanted peace and quiet and that this was a playoff hockey game and we are to be as loud as we want.

I did tell the couple that were upset that they should look to move to a different section next game because these are our seats…. :)

I doubt Colorado fans or NJ fans are overreacting like we are

I was so surprised at the lineup decision to start the game. What a terrible coaching display last night as well. Should have also called a timeout right after the second goal as the start just wasn't right.

Lmao did you actually just write that you were on the brink of giving up on our core at 21/22 years old? I’m sorry, that’s ridiculous. The earliest consideration should have been the Montreal debacle

6 of the 8 series are now being led by the lower seeded teams, only Boston and Carolina have won the first game and are the favorites, odd.

ZAR's giveaway set the tone for the night, ZAR is one of those guys that screams I'm not worthy and just about anybody is an upgrade to me. There's something about TO that brings out the worst in depth players, for instance Amadio, he didn't look like any sort of player in his 3 TO games but managed 11 goals in 53 games with Vegas last year and 16 goals with them this year.

Maybe a sign of a good coach is bringing out more from lesser players rather than simply piling more TOI on better players. We saw/have seen other team's 3rd and 4th lines be far more effective than what we see from TO's especially in the playoffs.

Supposedly TO's lesser players PK, they do just not effectively, especially in the playoffs which has been the case for every Leaf team of the Matthew era. Nylander, Matthews and maybe even Rielly should've been used to PK far more during the regular season. It's one thing to be a middle of the pack PKing team during the regular season against teams like Anaheim but being middle of the pack isn't as noteworthy in the playoffs.

TO's d is horrendous, pretty well none of the d-men can move or handle the puck under pressure, that includes Rielly, physicality is only a complimentary characteristic, having talent is and will always be the most necessary component. TO's woeful offensive stats from the defense is a primary indicator of how talentless they are.

Probably going to be another short playoff.

None of those other teams have a reputation of choking in the first round and failing to overcome adversity.

I know it's easy to say "it's a long series" but statistically only 30% of teams go on to win the series after losing the first game. And that number is assuredly worse if the loss was on home ice and was a blowout.

I agree with the first sentence but I reject the idea that it does not matter how they lost.
