Imagine listing off 3 of the players who started the game to try and bad mouth the coach and then making up that another line started.

Yes, you're correct...my mistake... but galaxy braining the matchups?

O'Reilly line started..had a 33 second shift.. pretty normal.
Matthews line came out at 19:27, and went off at 19:17. A huge 10 second shift.

You had an essay about how home ice was not really an advantage 2 weeks ago.
You should go refresh your memory then, because you seem to have missed the entire point.

The post was about Toronto needing to win both games at home, or it would be a waste of home ice advantage which the Leafs worked all season for.

Home crowd, last line change, there are numerous advantages of playing at home that benefit the home team.

Doesn't matter now as Leafs gave it away and now they must try and win it back or give TB all the advantages that go with it,

I would say Knies is in and stick to Samsonov. I'm not ready to give up on Sammy just yet. If he has another stinker maybe then try the kid for a different look.
Agreed. Hard to believe the goalie options/issues are starting to seep in.

Samsonov did not have his best game. His rebound control reminded me of Mrazek's last start with the Maple Leafs. That goal that was stuffed in from behind the net was something that Andersen used to get crucified for. Samsonov has to be this team's best player or TOR will truly exit early.

They have 100% of the power in their hands because they’re unrestricted free agents. The leafs fumbled their contracts so badly and now Marner and Matthews have then by the balls. You’re supposed to get either term or a decent rate from your guys when they’re RFA’s but they got neither. Very poor management of the cap and contract negotiations .

If the team offers them anything they don’t like, they walk for nothing. They basically have blank cheques because you can’t let your 2 best players walk for noting in their prime and they’re not worth a ton without extensions in place. Certainly not enough to even consider moving them.

Then trade them, the leafs don’t have to do anything. They have no leg to stand on, let another team ruin their cap by signing them to extensions.

I don’t see any scenario where either gets a huge raise.

Marner I think will just go to $11 mill. So a few hundred thousand.

Matthews is the one where you can’t give him a blank cheque

Good portion of us on here weren't that surprised(maybe by the 7-3 score but not much else). From the players Keefe plays, to the wrong lines(which we keep complaining about), to bad calls he makes during the game...etc...At least half of this game is solely on the coach.

Forget about the fact he had Bunting on the first unit(after numerous games where they just don't click at all...they need a ton of room to operate and even then Bunting is mostly just showing off his moves...almost zero playmaking ability)...But then to stick with JT and OR on the same line(very similar players...and then add Willy who doesn't engage enough on d)...Awful stuff...I've never seen anything like this. Then those d pairings that are immobile and were mostly chasing TB players around. Give me more speed and skill instead. Knies, Lilji, Gustafsson should all be in.

He kept short shifting the lines and it’s hard to remember who started.
Any blips at the start would have been long forgotten if only the end result had been better. That has to be on the players and coaching staff. Can only hope for a better outcome tomorrow night.

We'll need to take a step back IMO. Decide what core player your moving forward with besides JT (contract keeps him), likely move 2-3
They didnt use run and gun. They largely played cautious and stationary, scared to make a mistake.
Indeed. That is especially important because if they get eliminated by TB it's almost certainly a new management team's moves to make, so they'd probably want to do some gruntwork before making any major moves.

They can't run it back with this same core, front office and coach if they get eliminated in the 1st round again. To play off a Dubas phrase, they can't and they won't.

No question Sammy should go back in, one of the few correct decisions Keefe made yesterday was start Woll in the 3rd. Gives the kid a moment in the nets in the PO. Sammy has always came back strong after a stinker. Just like the team. I'm bummed after that putrid effort last night, but think it's quite possible this combined with a Bunting suspension, could actually be a good thing for the team. We won't have long to wait to find out.

Want Lily in game 2 and Holl out

Aren't you a Canes fan? Isn't it fun enough to shit on us on the mainboards, but now you gotta come here and do it too?

Puck is round so it may have been over the line on the ice. Ron showed a clearer image on TV. Doubt they call it a goal unless they have undisputed evidence.
To me it's simply amazing that posters are spending so much time and analysis on a shot that was called a goal on the ice, called a goal after review, and called a goal after a coach's challenge, is a goal in the books, and is not gonna change.

The core has a loser’s mentality.

Combine that with weak goaltending and you get 7 straight first round exits.

About 15 or more years ago, I was a moderator on this very board. I worked with guys like my man Squiffy. I used to post here all the time.

I don't watch much NHL anymore, which is why I don't post here very often. For that reason, I really don't count as a Leafs fan anymore, I don't think?

But I'd rather die than switch teams.

EDIT: and furthermore, where did I shit all over the Leafs on the main boards again?
