On the one hand, it's just game one and a series of course can be very long with ups and downs.

Statistically, 70% of teams go on to lose the series if they lose game 1, so on the other hand this team has shown us time and time again that they buckle in the face of adversity. And losing that badly in game 1 could trigger an epic series collapse.

On the main forums and the hockey subreddit, the general "non-leaf" hockey fans have an enormous lack of faith in the mental fortitude of our core players and most of them are calling for a sweep at this point.

If anything we werent run and gun enough. We looked nervous and scared to make a mistake. This led to rushed puck decisions with little to no purpose
A game plan by Tampa, pressure, no breakout space, dmen tight to forwards in neutral zone and not backpeddling to their own blueline, vs Leafs short touch passes inside own zone, no clearing pucks, AM, MM, etc being checked closely between our blueline and centerline by a D that was not backing up....this is coaching strategy.

Then it's a 46 hour wait to see if they learned anything at all.

They were supposed to have learned from the last 6 series.

Instead they looked like a bunch of rookies playing their first ever playoff game, including the coach. They were nervous, wilted under the pressure which led to bad plays and turnovers and they were down 3-0 as a result.

The series is far from over, and if they settle down they can obviously come back and win this, but they did themselves no favours but putting themselves in a hole after game one and now go into a virtual must-win in game 2, and considering the pressure they must have felt last night Thursday will be even more.

The fact we really just kind of laid down in the 3rd as well is....concerning. Like obviously the game was over but go be an ass hole for 20 minutes hit the shit out of them, take a pound of flesh with you. You can take it to the bank that Tampa wouldn't just roll over and play out a game they were getting beaten bad in. If they don't show up Thursday night it is curtains on this one.

Like Tampa did last year for the last 2 periods game in game 1?

The series is going to be ebbs and flows like every year. Let's see how the Leafs respond.

The Leafs played a horrible game all over the ice, and can’t be that bad again. However, the big concern is how uncompetitive they were in game one.

The ZAR give away was bad, but they should have been able to recovery, better yet, not only recover, but Holl could have made a statement. Instead, he showed he either doesn’t care enough to compete, or he isn’t good enough.

Yeah but they did show something in the 3rd of that game. They didn't just pull the chute. They mucked it up and played like assholes. We just took it.

Naw, they didn't show much that whole game and looked embarrassed after it.

The Leafs at least scored a goal and outplayed them last night in the third.

..but that had nothing to do with being run and gun by the Leafs, which was my point. The Leafs played overly tight and made some needless turnovers in that first period. ZAR'S was a poor decision under pressure, the other two were just overly cautios plays with little purpose in the Marner flip and late penalty kill where Acciari should have stepped up.

A lot of our issues, especially in that first, were self inflicted playing with little to no pace and overly stationary

I don’t understand people on here saying “we’ll see if they’ve learned anything in game 2” this core group has been around 7-8 years now. If they haven’t learned anything now then they’ll never learn. I’m absolutely stunned how flat Matthews and Marner were. Look, Auston is Uber talented but I’m starting to question his drive. Every year they talk about how different things will be and then end up not being any different at all. If they lose game 2 the series is over.

If this Leafs team could only convince themselves not to play “afraid to lose” hockey, and just go out there and take it to the other team, they would be such a force.

They learned lesson last night.

Just stunned they had the scared deer in the headlights look. It’s really a mindset of this team, have to start getting around the fear of losing and playing to win.

I had a few morons at work talk about "machine learning" and using "R" and "Python" in a "neural network" settings. I asked them a few subject matter questions as to how it was going to be resolved and they took a recess and had to leave because something urgent came up

Leafs seem to be filled with "talkers" who have no idea what they are saying just like using "big words" to sound "intellectual" but quite frankly knowledge and wisdom escapes them
This is objectituitously unfactualized. It is with great obviousivity you are propagatively furtherancing this faslificated narrarratative.

My favorite moment from the game that I tuned in late to was the slashing penalty on the stick check when the stick that didn't break or anything followed by the equally hard slash on the guy not near the puck for no call.

The playoffs are sure called different from 20 years ago heh.

Also on the goaltending… I’d start Samsonov but it’s an extremely tight leash, any type of hiccups or a bad goal I’m pulling him and Will goes in. Game 2 is a must win

Stop being negative. Apparently I was told to not be negative calling out the stupidity of Holl and ineptitude of Keefe

;)

Everyone and their grandma sees how terrible Holl is but Keefe doesn't. It frustrates the hell out of me. We lost Sandin to keep Holl a pending UFA happy. Won't be long when Lily has also had enough of this BS
If Lou was still here he'd fire Keefe & Coach the team to victory...he's done it before....but Dubas power struggled him out and NYI may go further ....with a Lou team. Getting rid of Lou was a very bad idea.....

Has Matthews ever won anything in his life?

I’m not going to blame the refs for last night but there were sure some very very soft calls.

Leafs in 6 still.

It would be foolish not to have doubt that these guys can do it and I understand everyone's concern.
