We knew we were going to have to beat Tampa and the refs.

But coming out like that in the first was completely inexcusable. They beat themselves.

These guys never show up to a game 1 on time.

One game, and the board melts down. Epic.

Tampa lost the first game of the series 5-0 last year.
I get what ur saying. But there a huge difference between Tampa going down a game post season and the Leafs. One team is very successful the other is record breaking terrible in playoffs

I wake up early - which is fine because I had to be up early but still I woke up an hour early for this shit.

As soon as ZAR or whoever put it on a platter for Perry and Holl decided to not play the body and they scored I knew how it’d turn out.

Plenty of biased reffing but that’s hardly new, tomorrow’s another day, but at the same time there’s no way we lose here.

If the Leafs beat Tampa they ‘exorcise the demons’ and then earn the right to get holed by Boston.

They lose and finally we get some of the ‘changes’ that should already have happened.

IMO Marner had a bad game despite what fancy stats may say. He struggled to make clean passes that connected and often folded under pressure with poor passes or unnecessary fancy plays that quickly came back the other way. I'm a stats guy but I find the playoffs are a different beast where the interference and pace ramps up and the underlying numbers decouple from the live events happening on the ice.

I think people's eyes are just fooling them. Was he at his best? No, not even close. But he was a positive player in every metric and was in on all 3 goals. Not to mention he played over 23 minutes including almost 5 on the PK. He looked off for sure, but he was his usual effective self and I think we'd be much happier with that performance if Sammy didn't let in 7.

Except last season when they won 5-0, but yeah that was an inexcusable start. I can understand being nervous and not being mentally engaged but they weren't even moving their feet, literally stood there and watch Perry walk around everyone and score.

Everyone losing their sh*t as if they didn't see this coming

Each and every single one of us on these boards totally expected this. There is no surprise here.

Not sure how anyone can be mad about tonight. We all saw it in the back of our minds, we all knew this outcome was totally possible. And so it was.

When you expect the worst, it becomes less of an anger thing and more of an acceptance thing.

We're all starting to accept that this version of the Leafs won't be the one to bring it home.

And that their "window" to win it is closing fast, if not already closed.

Because this team is going to look different next season after they get booted out of round 1 again. The top 4 will certainly be dismantled in one way or another. How many seasons can they be given. They're already on borrowed time

Who knows what the roster will look like but this current set of players have reached the end of the road.

Lets hope Samsonovs away numbers are much better in the playoffs because that home ice advantage is gone now.

6
and 4 were Power Play goals.

He didn't play well .... overplayed many pucks and was out of position.

Keefe doesnt have the guts to try Woll unless Sammy is injured.

You probably give Samsonov one more game. If he has another stinker than I think woll has to see the ice. We can’t drop 2 of 7 due to stinky goaltending

Should also be called out that the last 20 minutes of the game they just mailed it in wanting to go home. Sure, the game wasn't winnable anymore perhaps, but just letting TB have it with no pushback is pathetic. They got outskated and outworked despite TB missing two of their top 4 D. They could've taken that opportunity to punish them a bit, make their legs work and set a tone for the next game. Instead they gave up and kept getting outworked.

Good point - I guess last season is the outlier...

2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 all terrible game 1 efforts.

Let’s take a look lol

2018: 7-2 loss to Boston, about as bad as this

2019: 4-1 win against Boston, about as good as last year

2020: 2-0 loss against Columbus, not as bad as today

2021: 2-1 loss to Montreal, not as bad as Columbus, due to JT injury

At the end of the day game 1 is just that, the first game, but it is much nicer to win as it’s the whole point of home ice
