That sucks man. Dubas has put them in a tough spot with that contract.

Rielly is on the Baker Mayfield career trajectory. Gets paid, engaged/married to a female athlete, puts on significant weight, play drops off a cliff, career down the toilet to the point he gets kicked around from team to team with organizations hoping they can get the best out of him/find his game again, etc.

Played scared and chased the game in the first while Tampa controlled it and imposed their will.

Toronto played on the perimeter a lot while Tampa found unchallenged space in the middle of the ice.

Tampa also slowed the game down to the pace they wanted to. Can’t win that way.

Officiating was blatant hot garbage.

I was stunned after the first.. and just pure wtfism after the 2nd.

They didnt play at 50% of what they need to to beat this team.

Dumb lineup choices aside.. they were eaten up. Jesus watch the game tape of their forwards forechecking and backchecking. Their angles and lanes are elite level.. everything pushed to the outside where there is support. They play in the middle of the f***en ice.. that is how you win

Watch the game tape.. play like that

If they lose the series they will blame it on the fact that too many newcomers were brought in and it wasn't a cohesive unit. I still think the Leafs will win but ny confidence has been wounded.

It’s not even that complicated. Just try to live between the dots and contest what happens in there. Perimeter control has never been that valuable.

bonus: here is the amazing one-handed crosscheck incase you missed it

Literal dive into Samsonov...guy literally swept his own skates from under...first one-handed crosscheck I've seen in hockey. Bias and corrupt officiating...this is really getting tired...hard to get up for these games with officiating this bad...rigged through and through, like last year...so Tampa already has their first 5-on-3 powerplay in game one? Will refs make history like last year where Tampa had 3 or 4 games of 5-on-3 powerplays in a roll?

Reasons we lose playoff series:
1) special teams
PK went 4/8, that’s 50%. I’m willing to look past this a bit because the reffing was flat out bullshit. Samsonov also let in some anderseive like goals. PP was good 2/4

2) goaltending
Was mediocre at very best, definitely a big reason we lost. Not even the goals he let in, some of the saves Samsonov made were terrible. 4-6 goals are unacceptable from an nhl goalie, let alone a “cup contending” teams starter. He needs to be so much better

3)Big 4 clutch factor
I don’t think they were terrible, they did most their damage on the PP but they scored or assisted on all 3 goals.

4) coaching
The galaxy brain is insane. Holl needs to have his minutes cut, dramatically, looks like the game is catching up to gio. Why tf did bunting start L1 when jarnkrok has been good there. Where was the intensity of the game at the start.

5) depth scoring
0 goals from L3 or L4 players. Let’s see how this trend continues

First time watching a Leafs playoff game without knots in my stomach. Down 1-0 or 3-0 I still felt nothing, Nylander scoring the 3-2 couldn't even fist pump, watching it collapse to 6-2 not even a shake of the head.

This team has made me not even care anymore. I hoped O'Reilly would drag this team thru the 1st round and he still might, but the level of suck and choke-artistry though-out the roster is simply on another level.

Not singling out this post, but this sentiment makes me a little sad. Matthews and Marner were not terrible, but the stage has been set for them to take over a series and go full throttle for a long time now and we've been waiting a full calendar year for their next big chance and they were ok. Is that enough?

Can't disagree with the rest of your comments, though.

Again, they were good, and primarily matched up against Tampa's top line, who had an xG of 11.2% based on Moneypuck. They weren't completely dominant, but what else do you want from your two best players besides being positive in their chance shares, and scoring 3 and 2 points on 3 total goals. Saying they "weren't terrible" is putting it so mildly its disingenuous. They weren't on for a 5v5 goal, and Matthews only played 17 minutes because of all the penalties.

Of all the issues this team had today, I'd put Marner, Matthews, and Nylander at the very bottom with the Brodie-McCabe pairing.

Just Holl. He should never see the ice again as a Maple Leaf.
Well I guess he’s playing 22 minutes on Thursday

It’s almost like keefe doesn’t watch the game when holl is on
