I'm pissed but not surprised and I'm so used to this kind of shit by now from this team that I can shrug it off pretty fast.
I'll say a few things:
They need Matthews to score. When he gets hot some always get carried away and start comparing him to Connor McDavid again. Then McDavid proves again why he's in a different tier. The loss isn't all on him and he wasn't terrible, but he is paid to score and he needs to do it in games like this. A goal before BOS' second goal (which was scored on a PP that was awarded because of a stupid and pointless penalty he took) would have changed the complexion of the game. He came close. But it can't be like that every year. He's years into his prime now and needs to score some memorable goals. Gilmour had that OT goal against STL. Sundin had that OT winner against OTT. Matthews needs his defining moments.
I hate seeing my team get pushed around as well, but physicality is just a means to an end. If the end result is still an embarrassing loss, throwing 100 hits isn't going to save face. I remember reading comments before the game poking fun at Nylander. Yeah, he can be soft/inconsistent, but at least he can f***ing score in the playoffs. That's what he's paid to do. Scoring is the hardest thing for skaters in the NHL. That is the reason the best scorers are paid over ten mil per season and guys like Reaves are paid peanuts in comparison. Marner again didn't put anything on the board. That has to change. Tavares simply isn't a very good Captain and I'm looking forward to moving on from him, but he can at least score when he gets his chances around the net.
The goaltending situation really worries me now. BOS seriously could have had like eight goals in this game. TOR will be hard-pressed to score three or four, it seems.
I'm not that impressed by BOS, though. They're going to get curb-stomped in round two again. TB made a joke of them in 2020 and FLA or Tampa will do the same this year.
