Don't disagree, but I also don't think 88 is the one that has to go from the core.

It's a lose lose situation. We will never get value for any of those guys in a trade... But the value can't be assessed by looking at the assets only.
Which is better in the long run,

1 - Marner signing for $11m (it's got to be $11.5m at least)

Or

2 - Losing Marner in FA clearing up $11m in cap room?

After every humiliating playoff series loss (other than the Panthers series), people like you come in and point out a whole bunch of stats that show that the leafs were "better on paper". It's always the same old story and I'm f***ing sick of it.

What you call a "goaltending difference" I call a lack of killer instinct and finish. And it happens every freaking playoffs.

Frame your stat sheet and hang it on the wall and pretend the leafs won the cup this year.
What? The Leafs have 8 exCups in the last 8 years! Right in the trophy case next to the exPresident's Trophies and Participation Awards!

Marner isn't going to take a discount. Management have no clue and will keep dishing out and overpaying. The writing has been on the wall for years with this bunch and management thinks miracously one day it's going to change. It's not. Move on from this heartless bunch before it's too late. If you hopefully persuade someone to drop their NMC's then ship them out.
Well we have Treliving now, but Shanny still gets final call.

Look at what happened to Florida after moving on from Huberdeau ? Maybe there isn't a Tkachuk out there we can trade for, but getting rid of that kind of player who lacks intensity, plays a soft game and disappears when it matters make a big difference on the teams culture.

Either Marner steps up and proves he's worth his contract this year or he's gone. Or should be gone at least.

Nylander should have been dealt at 2023 draft but we f***ed up

Next best thing is to get Marner to waive his NMC now and deal him at this draft

Get pure future assets for Marner, wait out 1 more year of cursed 1 in Tavares.

2025/2026 --> Cowan + futures from Marner trade make the team

And you have 25M to add 2RW, 2C and 1D

No they're not. What yoursaying isn't true. It's emotianall blindery thinking the group in front doest do what you say... Goaltending has be the crux of this team. From James Reimer, and on the Leafs have have received the worst goaltending of all playoff teams that's why they're constantly out in round 1 period. It's as simple as that. Trying win cups with backups isn't the way
Our goaltending isn’t good enough and we don’t make life difficult enough for the guy on the other end. Both are true, keep arguing with yourself.

I hate the baseball stats that have invaded hockey, and the geeks that come along with that. You need stats in baseball to give you something to do because the games are so long and boring, and the ball is only in play for like ten minutes, but hockey ain't like that.

Without emotion I thought the Leafs played better than the score indicated.
I don't. I thought they were completely outplayed. Marner was a ghost, Matthews played hard but failed to produce, JT played hard but is too old and slow. The rest of the team was meh.

there wasn't a single positive to take from tonight's game. Not ONE.

Aside from a few minutes of pressure to start the 3rd this team did sweet f* all for the other 57 minutes.

There is NOTHING positive they can draw upon from this one. Every single one of these flowers were utterly invisible tonight.

We all knew they weren't winning this series and that they were going to get pummeled again but WOW even tonight shocked me... I knew they were going to blow this but holy f* I din't know it would be as bad as it was... this was game #83 of the season and it was the worst game of all 83 they've played so far.. they saved their best for game #1 of the playoffs

We need to be better but this commentary is just laughably wrong in almost every point.

There is a pretty significant difference between failing to get it done (which is us last night) and playing not only poorly, but the worst game of this entire regular season and playoffs, which this was far from

And you did not know shit about this team losing this series to Boston or pummeled. Last I checked there are still up to 6 more games in this series to decide that

Just go out and win. No excuses

The overreactions here are expected but ridiculous at the same time.

Yea need to add that in too

I think cap increasing to 92M (5M) should give space for a goalie in 2025/2026

They DID play better than the score indicates but the end result is the same. No moral victories.

I don’t want to take any of the blame away from the players, but I put a lot of the blame for our playoff woes on Keefe.

Compared to the regular season, coaches can really specialize their gameplan against a team in a 7 game series, and every year it seems like other coaches are able to capitalize on our faults and limit our strengths than the other way around.

They have scored less than 3 goals a game over their last 8 playoff games.

I point the finger at Keefe, considering how many playoff type players have been brought in over that stretch.
While Keefe is terrible, the blame also needs to go on the guys who are supposed to lead this team. Watch the Oilers and Colorado today and see how their top guys lead the way.

Marner trade retain 2 mil
personally I think Marner will want to leave

We are stuck with JT

- Marner won't accept the trade.
- No one's giving anything comparable for a player that's UFA at the end of next season.
- Tavares' contract expires end of next season. Only way I'd sign him again is on the Spezza deal otherwise seeya. I like him BTW but if both him and Marner walk, they have $22M+ to work with and they could finally do what they should have done all along and get a frigging goalie and shutdown defenseman.

We had the 2nd best offense this year and only got a contribution from our 4th line who also had the most pressure. That tells you there's a chemistry issue , Keefe does this every year. Never had the lines humming down the stretch and we get off to slow starts. Team is 2-7 in game 1s in recent history. Bullshit coaching , chemistry is everything when the checking tightens up .

Keefe was double shifting Jarnkrok and put him on PP#1 too; this afer Jankrok had missed considerable amount of time

This isn't even galaxy braining. We need to coin a new term for this

I am almost done with this team. They were my first love as a 13 year old kid watching Mats, Mogilny, Roberts, Tucker, Kaberle, McCabe, etc. every night. We were spoiled! I can't stand the sight of what they have become today. Up until last year I was watching every second of every game - this past season I watched probably 65% of the games and depending on how the next few games play out good chance I miss most games next season.

Bought into the hype of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares being on a different tier but it's becoming blatantly obvious that they don't have what it takes to win when it matters. It's sad.

Also, why is Keefe still around?

My initial point was that statistically we outperformed the Bruins everywhere except in net. You said piss on stats. I made the point that if they continue to play the same way they're not going anywhere.
Your stats are junk.

I saw another game where the guys who paid the big bucks did very little. While the outshot Boston, they didn't go to the dirty areas or have guys in front of the net like Boston did.

This team will never win anything til the highest paid players play like. Look at MacKinnon, McDavid and Eichel, they lead their teams and bring it every night in the playoffs.

When you watch Matthews and Marner, they play the same as they do during the regular season
MacKinnon nor.Macdavid played this game. Which forward on Boston was noticeably more dominant?
