How did Dubas nuke our goalie situation? Andersen was the starter for the first two years of Dubas as the GM. He fell apart on his own. Campbell fell apart a short time later, forcing the Leafs to scramble to find a solution (I'm going to ignore Mrazek, because NO ONE predicted he'd have the worst season of his career by far on the Leafs). Murray-Samsonov wasn't a great solution, but we could be New Jersey right now...
He literally waived Big Mac to bring in SParks and we missed the playoffs ffs. LOL

Leafs are such a tragedy. When they're skilled, they lost because they were bullied. When they're tough, they're losing because they're bullies.

Our PK has been our weakness all year and you won't win by taking penalties this series.

Once we were down 4-0 Leafs should have concentrated on changing Bruin colours from black and yellow to black and blue and the colour of their ice from white to red.

This is the most infuriating thing about the team.

Losing a game sucks, losing it by 4 goals sucks more.
Losing a game because of the same ailments the team suffered all year long and never addressed really sucks.

But those things can all be overcome by winning the next game and then 3 more.

What can't be changed, is the missing mentality "I might lose tonight, and maybe even tomorrow night, but I sure as shit will make you suffer for it and eventually you won't want to beat me anymore".

No he's not. There's tons of goalies with better than a .890 regular season same percentage this year.

Cam Talbot? Reimer?

We don't need a stud goalie. We need a .900 goalie who can split the net with Woll.
You want to bank on a 35+ goalie and a goalie who averages 40+ games on injured reserve? Sounds like a recipe for a worse outcome than this.

No, the Leafs either need to make a trade or they need to let Woll and Hildeby run with the net. Latter is risky, former is going to cost.

Yep, exactly what I was afraid of. Keefe's going to pull from this game that playing physical isn't working and he's going to dress a light lineup next game, which Boston is going to run out of the building.

We need scoring... may not be a bad thing. When we are healthy, maybe we run something like this.

Domi - Matthews - Bertuzzi
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Robertson - Holmberg - Nylander
Knies - Kampf - Jarnkrok

Rielly - Lub
McCabe - Liljegren
Brodie - Benoit

Oh...so what you're saying is Tre didn't want to pay him?

LOL

Tre wanted to pay him, but 500k less...

Of course I would. You know every team could have had Samsonov for free this year and not a single team put in a claim for Samsonov as a rental? The Leafs were worried about waiving Martin Jones cause he'd get claimed when Samsonov didn't. What does that say about Samsonov?

Look at Talbot's stats compared to Samsonov. Talbot made 1M this year.

It's worth mentioning that if the Leafs intend to upgrade their goaltending, it's not going to be via free agency. The best FA goalie this year is... Ilya Samsonov.
They're going to make a big trade for a goaltender this summer, I feel like it's almost guaranteed. Treliving has never bargain bin shopped when it comes to goaltending. I expect to see Saros, Gibson, or Markstrom in a Leaf uniform next season.

Gotcha. So not big on him. WHich is fair. Then added more goalie depth cause he was clearly not confident in Sammy

You really think that was what destroyed the Leafs' goaltending? Waiving a 37 year old to allow a 25 year old who just won a championship a crack at the backup position?

they kill anywhere from 30 to 50 seconds just trying to get in the offensive zone after their slow ass drop pass. Opposition PK team probably laughs as how DUMB Leafs' PP entries and starts are; and are praying Leafs keep tavares on the PP because he half helps opposition kill Leafs PP
Slow drop pass to the point, missed wide!!

This is true.

However, while "you won't win y taking penalties this series" is 100% factual, a factual counter to that is:

"you don't get power plays called for your team unless you take an equal number of penalties"

And yet that otherwise hard-coded rule, does not apply to Toronto.....sometimes!

The whole penalty situation is a lose-lose for the Leafs, and they need to just ignore it all around.

Woll + Stolarz seems like the best budget combo available and that's risky as hell

Leafs are shit show defensively so the Bruins just wait for their chances, get a couple of goals and play a neutral zone trap the rest of the night. Keefe can’t game plan to beat that style or adjust to it. Bruins definitely wanted to play the Leafs in the first round. It’s a walk in the park for them.

And the latter two frighten me. Gibson hasn't been good for years, and you're screwed if it turns out he's a big reason Anaheim hasn't been great. Markstrom has his own history of bad playoff choking...

I'd prefer if they could get Saros somehow, but I think it'll cost too much...

ANd that worked out how? He waived a sure thing to bring in a known hot-head they had to kick out of the room weeks before the playoffs they missed.

I mentioned that in the GDT, if we're strictly speaking about playoff numbers Jake Allen is actually a better choice than those guys.
