Aside from Tavares, Marner and Rielly being three huge pieces that currently aren't working well and the goalie falling into pieces, the way they "carry the play" bugs me.
When they need a goal, they go into this puck possession overdrive mode, rag it around, create a lot of nice passes for potential back door plays, cross crease plays, but it always feels like one extra little pass too many and ends up on the stick of the wrong trigger man, or else the other team just collapses on their crease and our spacing gets screwed.
We just seem to lack the personnel and tendency to just take the puck to the net in straight lines and at speed when it's an urgent moment, or just create an honest to goodness dump/chip and chase (when the situation requires a little versatility, and move the puck enough just to open things up for a shooting lane to emerge. When I watch Colorado or the Perfection Line on Boston, they just seem to have a little more simplicity.
Score the f'ing goal, they don't give out style points.
