If the coach dressed a backup he can't use in the game that's dumb.

Andersen should have been pulled after the 2nd goal, if Jack absolutely had to start tomorrow Hutch should have been backup tonight. Because if Andersen got hurt tonight and Campbell played Hutch would just end up starting tomorrow.

Except Hutch is also unusable, so what's he supposed to do?

Here's what I can't get a read on.

What is "very flawed" about them right now? They're not perfect and I want them to be, I'll harp on Tavares, Marner and Rielly, but at the end of the day were carrying the play on most nights. We're scoring goals for the most part.

Aside from Tavares, Marner and Rielly being three huge pieces that currently aren't working well and the goalie falling into pieces, the way they "carry the play" bugs me.

When they need a goal, they go into this puck possession overdrive mode, rag it around, create a lot of nice passes for potential back door plays, cross crease plays, but it always feels like one extra little pass too many and ends up on the stick of the wrong trigger man, or else the other team just collapses on their crease and our spacing gets screwed.

We just seem to lack the personnel and tendency to just take the puck to the net in straight lines and at speed when it's an urgent moment, or just create an honest to goodness dump/chip and chase (when the situation requires a little versatility, and move the puck enough just to open things up for a shooting lane to emerge. When I watch Colorado or the Perfection Line on Boston, they just seem to have a little more simplicity.

Score the f'ing goal, they don't give out style points.

This guy is an excuse making machine.

Just own up to it and you would have my respect.

I don’t even have to wait for the playoffs to know he’s going to let us down if we play him.

Ride Campbell.

"Same goes for our team"

Unbelievable, Fred doesn't have the right to criticize anything about the team after a game they dominated scoring chances

I am blaming the team. A lot of them were soft all night, some more than others.

When your best players are not at their best, you have no chance of winning imo. That especially includes Marner, Rielly and Andersen. They should have all took the night off if that was going to be their effort. Absolutely no excuse.

But there were other players who were pushing the puck around like it was an egg. f***in' bring some strength to the game. Sometimes I feel like this core will never get it done.

You can throw the advanced stats in my face, and they have been good I would say 5 of the last 7, in which we have won 1 effin game. Goaltending has not helped, but where is the rest of the team to pick up the goaltender? Its a two way street.

They’ve been picking him up for two seasons. How many times do they have to pick him up?

Why can’t he just do his f***ing job? No more excuses for this loser. His play in on him and him alone.

Leafs lose 6 of 7... still in 1st.. still in playoffs.

lets not discredit this team being dominant for like 30 games cause theyve been stinky in the mid point of the season for a bit.

Yeah bad take man. This team has outplayed the other team, but sure lets blame the character.
The team has more then did their part, but if you think somehow the team is at fault, well then thats bad evaluation.

With Matthews’s wrist not improving this team can’t win this year.
So I hope they don’t make any trades and just play it out.

The guy took three one timers on a PP and didn't score, why do we associate his scoring slump with an injury when they sold the notion that his wrist was bugging him when he was on his goal a game pace? Maybe he's just playing poorly and his timing is off?

I'm not going to blame every single goal solely on Andersen, but at some point your goalie needs to make a few clutch saves for you and Freddie more games than not isn't doing that.

Markstrom let in 3 goals, but when the Flames needed it the most he made a few very nice saves down the stretch to preserve the lead and help get his team the win. Andersen is rarely if ever able to do that for the Leafs and its why we need to move on from him ASAP. I know Dubas won't do it, but I wish we could trade him before the deadline for anything we could get for him.

You'd expect a backup goalie to play better than Andersen has been. It's at the point where if Campbell is healthy maybe we let Hutchinson back him up while Fred gets some rest to get healthy again which he clearly needs... he's just hurting the team right now & I'd expect no less from Hutchinson than what Andersen has been as of late. No risk & high reward. Playing Andersen right now is just high risk low reward & I do not see that changing unless he at least gets healthy again.

This is what I was referring to earlier. (2 pics for those on mobile. Click the tweet)

Lmao this guys just like his fans.

Can’t take responsibility for anything. f*** him. Idc what they do with him. I don’t wanna see him in a Leafs net ever again.

Teams protect the house and the few jam plays we have aren't smart decisions, like the one we saw from Matthews today.

Even with those 3 not being their best, we're still heavily controlling games. That's not "very flawed" IMO, even if I do understand (and share) your frustration.

Honestly, I'm disappointed in the result and see so much low hanging fruit specifically on those 3 to elevate their play, but we're still outplaying teams on a nightly basis.

On a side note I'd go Marner with Tavares for a bit. Let them work out some kinks together

Freddy save% has been .857 over the last 7 games. No team is overcoming that

Freddy, his knees weak, reflexes unsteady.... Looking on the ice his position looks shaky, he let in a muffin, but Keefe keeps forgetting .... Now snap back to reality, backup position is more likely.

the one stat that kind of stunned me was the 10 goals scored on the first shot over the last two years, that's worse then Jonny Berns who had 8, I wonder how many two goal holes Fredlight has treated us to. Berns was really good for that infamous stat

Its time to try campbell as staring goaltender right now before deadline because if campbell can take that pressure, dubas need to find a new goalie. We will never win anything with andersen.

Except Hutch is also unusable, so what's he supposed to do?

Anything other than what he keeps doing the past 7 games? It clearly isn't working, maybe Hutch gets us a point tonight if he comes in after Freddy allows 2 goals on 4 shots.
