I expect a better game Saturday, but they really have no choice.

- Dermy in for Sandin. It really made no sense to sit your best rush defender against a rush-offense.
- 34/16 have to breakthrough
- Play 88 more
- I know a lot of people liked Brooks in the regular season, but I think he's 'just a guy'.
- Hopefully Foligno is good-to-go
- Wishful thinking, but sit Jumbo. At the very f***ing least, get him off PP1.

You really have to coach according to your opponent not according to the regular season results

Against teams that are fast like Habs are, you need faster options. Robertsson should get a look over Nash and Joe

Also, it's ok to doubleshift your best player. Doubleshit Matthews with Spezza, how has the hot hands, who's getting chances every game
If it wasn't for robbery by Price and a break away save, Spezza could have had 4 goals by now

It's these types of game situation that Keefe has to learn as a coach. A veteran coach would have caught on to that, a veteran coach would have tried to get their top player with the hottest player to get them going or a top player with a veteran to calm him down. Spezza should be playing with Matthews once in a while to throw off the Canadians

Keefe is too one directional sometimes, too much by the book. This is his learning curve as well

I feel comfortable going into game 6, A LOT went wrong for MTL to win. Sandin AGAIN, with a freebie. Galchenyuk has played great overall but that OT is 100% on him. I don't think those kind of mistakes happen again next game, Leafs will close it out in Montreal. 2 things, show up on time and Matthews/Marner need to start producing like top 5 scorers.

I didn’t read through the whole thread but now is the time our 11.6 million dollar rocket winner needs to make an appearance and take over a game

Exactly. This is not the first time a top end player getting shadowed, being hit. Ask Jagr what it was like being run at, dragged around the boards by D back then when hooking and slashing was a normal thing. Crosby takes a lot of punishment but they produce

They find a way. Matthews has to find a way. He's too much of a passenger last few games

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
the boys will be fine and are going to close this out saturday. i said this before, the fans argument goes both ways and i think that will also go to the leafs legs. they just have to shut montreal down for the first 5-10 minutes of the game when montreal will be at their best.

Obviously Dermott has to come in for Sandin. and for the love of god take thornton off the PP

That game just seemed so scripted (maybe I watch too much wrestling), call me stupid but I think that the Leafs intentionally lost in order to let JT have more recovery time before the Leafs face the Jets. I mean really, how else in the world can Matthews (and Marner) possibly play that bad in the playoffs after killing it all season long.

It’s just that it’s so frustrating being a Leafs fan sometimes. Every time we had a chance to close out a team recently, we saw this team lose. Sometimes even in spectacular fashion. It’s like we can taste the 2nd round, but we can’t touch it.
There’s a word for this phenomenon... ch.. ch... ch... ch______ !

Being the optimistic idiot that I am, yesterday I'd already moved past the Jets to TB or whoever is next.:laugh:

I don't believe that myself, the more I hear stuff like that the less I believe in all kinds of single game stats and I also think Campbell's played very well for us. Loved seeing our third goal go through the tiny hole between Price's pads, can you imagine if that one was scored on Andersen? The wailing cries would have reached the heavens.:laugh:
Seemed a strange stat, believe it was Dominic Moore who said it.

yup, no need to sound the alarm. Still in control. Will be nice to see all those Habs fans spend $1000+ to see their team lay an egg. Can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday night than getting drunk and celly'ing

POSITIVE VIBES ONLY FOLKS. WE GOT IT

The problem is not Marner, nor is the problem Matthews. Montreal is playing them both very tight which is fine. How do you counter that? Easy, the D men need to get more involved on the rush. Unfortunately, the Leafs don't have that type of offensively skilled D man. A McAvoy - Leafs have nothing close. They have a decent D, but come playoff time you need more from your D than just getting to the center ice line and dumping it in. This is what separates the great teams from the rest

... the leafs have 4 goals/10 points from their D this series. The Habs have zero points from their D.
So I find it hard to argue that lack of D production is the problem. It’s the 11 million dollar stars that are the problem

Yeah probably but do you want to go with the same Shanaplan next year with the same strategy of 4 forwards taking half the cap surrounded by a cast of meh players ?? This is year 5 for the 3 amigos.

Do not want top slag Dubas but a ficken dinosaur took a terrible NYI team that lost it's captain and turned them into a more successful franchise. Yeah he hired Trotz but I did not see him on the ice shutting down Crosby< Malkin and company. There is a reason we cannot win with the 4 amigos and it is because we cannot surround them with enough of a supporting cast and that is on Dubas and Shanny.
I actually really do believe Dubas has been one of the best GMs this year, I'm very very pleased with how he's done and have nothing to nitpick since the Marner contract. IMO that is definitely his biggest blemish. Keefe I've also really liked. Where I think this team falls apart right now is just depth, I miss guys like Kapanen and would honestly rather have him than any of our bottom 6ers from yesterday, but idk where it gives. I would give it ONE MORE shot with this core if they get bounced R1. I really do believe Dubas and Shanahan and Keefe have all done excellent this year.

Remember, next year we will also be adding Robertson to the team which should help too. I despise Mikheyev since returning though, I miss old Soupy, this one is just annoying.

Not if Montreal comes back and wins in 7.
So we are gonna throw everything out the window and fire the entire management team because select players didn't show? I didn't say moving Marner was dramatic, I'd be fine with it, but firing everyone is overkill.

I agree completely, nice post. And speaking of doubleshifting your best player, throwing Nylander out there with Spezza seems like an easy way to get him some more ice time which he so obviously should be getting IMHO.

Am I still the only one who thinks that OT goal was deserving of an offside review?

looked awfully close and we never got a close up look of puck and skate.

just saying.
Goal was well onside for what it's worth. The booth and/or our review team likely gave it a quick glance, but it would have been a 2 second review.

The problem is that they are all linked. Shanny clearly stood behind Dubas and his vision when they fired Babs. Fire Dubas and you gotta fire Shanny IMO. At that point you gotta fire Keefe and allow the new GM and Pres. to hire their coach. No more coach and GM not on the same page games.

spezza with 8 minutes of ice time compared to soup's 13 minutes is another keefe mistake not talked about much.

Yeah I'm saying I wouldn't fire any of the three YET. I think you give Dubas a shot at making a big trade (he really has been good in terms of trades), but if it blows, then screw it go get a new GM. I just don't think we're at the fire management stage yet, I do think if they choke this series we're at the trade a star stage. So I agree with half of what you said if that makes sense.
