The bolded seems a tad drastic

Yeah probably but do you want to go with the same Shanaplan next year with the same strategy of 4 forwards taking half the cap surrounded by a cast of meh players ?? This is year 5 for the 3 amigos.

Do not want top slag Dubas but a ficken dinosaur took a terrible NYI team that lost it's captain and turned them into a more successful franchise. Yeah he hired Trotz but I did not see him on the ice shutting down Crosby< Malkin and company. There is a reason we cannot win with the 4 amigos and it is because we cannot surround them with enough of a supporting cast and that is on Dubas and Shanny.

Just a comment not any venting but Mykheyev has absolutely no hockey sense whatsoever. He is big fast strong and utilizes little of his incredible natural gifts. The next creative thing he does with the puck will be his first. What a waste of a good tool box.

We’ve had enough time to evaluate the core both regular season/playoffs.
Depending on what type of success we have this year (which IMO is the easiest path we will get) changes to the whole moving forward might be necessary.

Regular season dollars are fine, but those taking a significant portion of the cap have to deliver come playoff time. Have to even more in a top heavy cap build.

Here is the problem with this team. They go out and win 3 in a row and carried the play in all 3 for the most part. So now they get away from what made them won't those 3 games. They now think their talent can overcome everything when it wasn't their talent that won them those 3 games it was their hard work.

They did this all year. They had that streak of a bunch of wins vs Edm then went into VCR and got beat cause they thought they didn't have to work

Hopefully game 5 was their kick in the teeth moment and they need to come out and work hard in game 6

Be thankful Dubas had no cap space to over pay him.

I expect them to up their game in game #6 but the Habs are the worst team in these playoffs. No idea how they measure up to the American teams if they find enough onions to beat the Jets who were a tire fire the last month of the season.

Marner averaging 7:25 more ice time than Nylander in these playoffs makes me wonder WTF. I've always given Keefe the benefit of the doubt up until now but not any more.
Marner kills all the penalties, and out on powerplay with first unit to feed Matthews, these minutes add up. Plus his line had four shifts in the first five minutes of the game last night. It's not like Nylander can fill those roles. That said, sure would help us to get a hot Nylander more ice time, but not at the expense of Marner - yea, coach has to figure this out.

Why not wait before we actually lose before trying to figure out why we can't win.

People wanted to break up the team after game 1. Then after game 2 people started planning the parade and the plans were almost finished until we lost last night, now we're back to breaking up the team again.

Chill out everyone. We're going to finish off MTL, then we're going to beat WPG, the parade plans will be almost done again until we lose a game in round 3 and then we'll be back to firing everyone and breaking up the team again.

And so it goes ...

The problem is not Marner, nor is the problem Matthews. Montreal is playing them both very tight which is fine. How do you counter that? Easy, the D men need to get more involved on the rush. Unfortunately, the Leafs don't have that type of offensively skilled D man. A McAvoy - Leafs have nothing close. They have a decent D, but come playoff time you need more from your D than just getting to the center ice line and dumping it in. This is what separates the great teams from the rest

Maybe the big guns would be more effective if they played a bit less? Or maybe put Nylander on the #1 PP unit instead of old man Thornton, seems like an obvious enough thing to try. Whatever, I agree completely that the coach has to figure it out. He's paid to coach, time to start earning his pay as it's becoming apparent that there's more to coaching then just giving your top line a ton of minutes.

If you read the conversation from post #771 you will see that the rant was based on losing to the Habs which I do not expect. Having said that, do not underestimate the Jets. Yeah their D is average but they have a better goalie than Price and their top 3 lines make the Habs forwards look like AHL players.

This is in part on Keefe. I have no idea why he had two players start this series -- Sandin and Nash -- who barely played all year long. It seemed like an insane decision. More importantly, I think this disrespects Dermott big time. He wasn't just "ok" this year. Truth is he and Bogosian were the steadiest and most effective third pair the Leafs have had in years. So sitting him, after a whole season of experience, seemed stupid to me, even before the first game puck drop. Honestly, folks, Sandin is overrated as a DEFENCE man. He is skilled, but he gets overwhelmed easily.

M and M look very very frustrated. We need fans in the stands. I am fully vaccinated. Let us in...

I guess I missed the original conversation. My apologies, I didn't mean to give you a hard time.

Yeah Nylander has been our best player and averaging what 16-17 min?

Something like that, yes. It's funny, one of the biggest ways that Keefe improved on Babcock was to give more ice to Matthews and Marner. Play your superstars more like the other teams do, simple and obvious improvement right? But it it's so obvious to play your best players more, how the hell do you not get a few more minutes to Nylander who talent wise is right up there with the other two and has been playing the best hockey of his life for a while now?

I said it yesterday that the Leafs should have rolled with the same lineup that they shut the Canadiens out with 4-0.

There was no reason at all to re-insert Sandin in the lineup last night. Im not saying that Sandin is not the future of this team, but when you are trying to close out a series after a 4-0 domination the previous game. Coaching becomes simple. Play the same team with the same strategy.

Last night was on Keefe. Take the 2 goals away that Sandin gave the puck away and we won the game and series.

I hate to say I told you so, but I did.

the pinch was just SOOOO bad though ...blind pass across was an unfortunate reaction under extreme pressure, but, our standard plays and passes are too predictable and Montreal has been picking off all the little tap passes in our end, and the d to d pass Gal tried
...as soon as Bogo pinched, Montreal was cheating out of the zone already
