It was disheartening because the stage was set in OT for Marner to breakthrough with a goal.
meh its been said since the start of the series, has not happened through 5, I hope its time on Saturday.Game 6 better be the Matthews & Marner show
The Leafs literally had to give away the game twice for Montreal to win it. First with the no show in the first and then the boneheaded meltdown in OT. Just come out, play hard and close it out.
Well that's fairly useless. How about giving him a chance on the top PP. Or some shifts with Matthews. Putting him with Kerfoot and Mikheyev isn't the greatest reward for a guy like Willy.Nylander was getting additional shifts on the third line tonight
It’s weird to see them come out flat in OT when they were one goal away from exorcising five years of demons.

They didn't come out flat, they came out brain dead and really it was just the 1It’s weird to see them come out flat in OT when they were one goal away from exorcising five years of demons.

This shoulda been our epic comeback OT win to end the series.
Physicality had nothing to do with this loss imo. The team was a complete (mental) no show for 40 minutes... from Sandin to Campbell to Matthews to Galchenyuk. Other than Nylander who was really good? You could say Muzzin... Like this was a chance, AT HOME, to close out a playoff series and they basically mailed it in. Fake comeback made it look somewhat good.
Like, when I call this team soft I generally mean not taking hits to make plays, or soft on the puck when passing or shooting. I think I have to re-evaluate and focus on the mental side more. Can they even get it done? Sure hope so.
I will say, take away the dumb dumb plays that led to the 1st, 3rd and 4th goals and this game probably looks a lot like games 2 and 3. Would have been nice for Campbell to clean up a couple of those (OT 2 on 0 aside)... like Price was doing all night.
Clealy they have to cut out the mistakes (or at least the egrigeous ones) and just play a tight low event game.
Guess round 2 doesn't start on Saturday for us! Moar rest for JT.
your posts have been really on fire tonight, love the passion! can honestly say ive never seen u this pissed off...They didn't come out flat, they came out brain dead and really it was just the 1
Floored that Willy was left off the PP and to add salt to the wound, Jumbo took the faceoff in the offensive zone. What is going on with Matthews???Well that's fairly useless. I thought we did well crawling back
I wonder if Keefe really has the balls to bench Joe and Brooks. If you don't then don't play them so much
Is no one going to talk about Mikaheyev? That dude sucks. He had the game on his stick and didn't get a shot
He could have made pass 2 on 1 early in the game and didn't. Dude just sucks
We have better options in robertsson. Stop fcking around coach
I should be more clear. A period. 2 periods. God forbid, a game. Not the odd shift. If we piss this away (I don't think we do) while refusing to switch Marner and Nylander, and just watching that top line go through the motions for 80% of the series, I'll cry a little. They did that too
I could be wrong, but I believe Keefe probably felt like he could afford, and likely felt it was necessary, to give Sandin some playoff experience against the Habs in the event that they need him later. I think Keefe putting Dermott in for an important Game 4 was an indication of this.I didn't like that move by Keefe. Sandin is going to be a beauty, but he's too young and inexperienced to be thrown into the fire like that.

They played like crap in the first, rallied and came back.Leafs were the better team on the night in the end.
But they didn't match the energy in the 1st.
I get that, but these guys are soft as shit. It's no secret anymore. They don't rise to the occassion, Matthews lets Gallagher cross check him and there's no response. I don't get it. It's everything combined, their mindset is not that of winners yet. They don't show any fight back. I think that's the the thing they lack the most.
EDIT: when I say these guys, I mean Matthews and Marner specifically. Teams take runs at them because they know it'll get them off their game and they won't push back.
One positive was that Campbell regrouped in the second half of the game and allowed the Leafs to come back.
For an proven starter who is hard on himself, it was good to see that he didn’t self destruct
