My biggest concern and why I’m still leaning towards a Habs comeback is that despite the Leafs’ play as a team, Matthews and Marner aren’t stepping up and producing like they should. Highly doubtful they can close this series out if they continue to be shut down.

Physicality had nothing to do with this loss imo. The team was a complete (mental) no show for 40 minutes... from Sandin to Campbell to Matthews to Galchenyuk. Other than Nylander who was really good? You could say Muzzin... Like this was a chance, AT HOME, to close out a playoff series and they basically mailed it in. Fake comeback made it look somewhat good.

Like, when I call this team soft I generally mean not taking hits to make plays, or soft on the puck when passing or shooting. I think I have to re-evaluate and focus on the mental side more. Can they even get it done? Sure hope so.

I will say, take away the dumb dumb plays that led to the 1st, 3rd and 4th goals and this game probably looks a lot like games 2 and 3. Would have been nice for Campbell to clean up a couple of those (OT 2 on 0 aside)... like Price was doing all night.

Clealy they have to cut out the mistakes (or at least the egrigeous ones) and just play a tight low event game.

Guess round 2 doesn't start on Saturday for us! Moar rest for JT.

Ya better to give him look now, and not like game 7 ... unfortunate but he’s young and got plenty of good hockey in him, Ton of potential just seems to need some work in his own end/dealing with pressure

To be honest, and I'm not saying Matthews is hurt because I don't believe he is, but using Keefe's decisions is probably not a good indicator of anything. He refuses to reward Nylander and refuses to put 3 forwards on the 4th line/PP and brings Sandin back for whatever reason.

I'm torn a bit on that. Matthews has stopped getting looks, but Marner's have increased. As much as he isn't a scorer, he's still due and putting enough good looks together. The line itself is also producing and generating chances.

Nylander was getting additional shifts on the third line tonight

It was disheartening because the stage was set in OT for Marner to breakthrough with a goal.

I wonder if Keefe really has the balls to bench Joe and Brooks. If you don't then don't play them so much

He could have made pass 2 on 1 early in the game and didn't. Dude just sucks

I have seen alot of OTs in my lifetime, but never the ridiculous stupidity of a 2 on 0 in the first few minutes of an OT game in the playoffs. However, we need to relax. We're the better team who were just beat by a team that had everything go right for them.

Boneheaded play in OT...check
Unheralded rookie the indirect reason for two of the goals...check
A bearded player who added another minus to his game...check
Two 11 million dollar superstars who have been bafflingly ineffective...check
A goalie who looked like his head wasn't in the game and couldn't smother pucks if his life depended on it...check

This won't happen again. Dermott should have been in for Sandin all along, he's earned it during the season.
Matthews and Marner have to start showing they care, they can't continue to be this bad and unproductive.
Campbell has played well all series, he is allowed one poor game.
Thornton has been terrible in all games except the last one. Keefe has to do the right thing and sit him, even to just give him a rest.

We're going to take this in 6. Nevertheless, I have to take a walk to get the stench of this game out of my system.
