Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 4-3 OT in game 5

No brainer. Seriously. No pun intended but that was the only play to make there. Gally has been great, but, as Buford T. Justice would say, "Ooff".
I suggest rewatching the play. Galchenyuk can easily use the glass to get it to a wide open Nylander down low.

Better to lose this way in game 5 than in game 6. I would not have great hopes if they had to play a game 7 right after this effort.

Leafs will get better from tonight’s bilge-fest and win on Saturday.

Go Leafs Go!

We're just wanting to get to round 2 at this point. Cup aspirations look like a pipe dream at this point. I've been watching the Lightning and they would destroy us.

Tampa is on another level - not necessarily just because of the roster but also because of how their "stars" compete on ice. Point, Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman are leading the way there too

how are you supposed to win or be dominant when kerfoot has more points than both Matthews-Marner

Jesus christ. So many "fans" are acting like we're losing the series or already lost. Losing a game never feels good, but my god the comments, I dont think a single player hasn't been absolutely shit on by some of you in this series. Just ridiculous attitude to have. 30 years I've cheered for this team, and seen so much worse playoff performances and disappointment.

I'd say a good half of them are here simply to pester and distract, they're not Leaf fans. Sure, this was not our best game, but to somehow find a way to demean a player like Matthews isn't what a fan would do after the season he had. Disappointment, ya, but these over the top takes, these howling babies, just ignore them.

So, the next game's in Montreal, see you then folks, have a good eve, and...Go Leafs Go!

The Galchenyuk pass in OT was the dumbest play imaginable. Your D pinches and you don't look to see if the cross ice pass is the correct play? If you're going to make a play super quick, the chip play was the safe one.

Matthews and Marner earn 23M combined and have 1 goal, wake the hell up. Depth scoring has made it a non-story for the most part but seriously, they wanted the money, time to come up big for this club.

Matthews did not seem engagedd at all. Gotta be injured or just doesn't give a f***

The trouble with the core guys is sometimes they ride too high and never quite get down to business.

A good barometer is if the radio shows and fan base are buzzing and it’s a love in on game day, they will probably no show to start the game and shart.

Matthews has been a beast

7 hits tonight.

His line mates seem to forget they have the rocket winger on their line. Even Caufield has been set up more by his line mates .

Holl is the only one this series who saw he had matthews with him so made a simple smart play and it ended up in a goal.

Of the three on that line Matthews has been the best. He’s been physical and always gets back, but with the puck on his stick the play has nowhere to go.

I don’t want him to defer to the other two. Marner clearly doesn’t have it because every chance he gets he gets easily knocked off the puck or he delays until the chance is long gone. Hyman flies into the end boards and crashes into the defenders but can’t make a play to save his life.

Overall that line really isn’t having the impact it should. I think a change is in order. Even if you have to split the duo up to get them some looks with other players and perhaps make for more dangerous depth. Either way, we are getting very little out of our two main stars.

Welp, the comeback was fun and all but this team deserved every bit of this loss for that useless start.

They can't do that and I'm glad they didn't get away with it even against a weaker opponent.

The bottom 6 and bottom pair was all sorts of fugly in this one, and it didn't help that Jack was pooping his pants most of the might.

Be better, you dummies.
Weak start? Besides the two unforced errors, the "weak start" is because of the usual SHIT ice in the Scotiabank Arena. What pisses me off is it's not the first f***ing time.

Strong play and bring it down the wall. If he doesn't want to take it low himself, it's a light chip to the strongside corner or a hard cross-ice down low. Three options, two easy, basic, obvious plays, but he forced something stupid.

Montreal scored 4 goals. 3 of them were gifted to them. The team just didn't being it tonight. Stop looking at individual plays.

The Leafs just need to get their heads out of their asses and wake up. They're getting outhustled and out hit by a significantly worse team. The old rough em up still works against this team.

At some point their bigger players have to give it back.

Wonder what the teams mental state is now. Like they have been losers 4 years in a row, and in 2 of those had win and you advance scenarios and have always faltered. There was no killer instinct tonight.

Going to be so very interesting to see how they come out on Sat. Almost a guarantee that If we don't score first we lose (be it in it, blowout what ever your pleasure).

Yeah exactly. Worst case you end up eating it on the wall and guys come in to help. Not a 2 on 0

Chill folks. Chill. The sky isn't falling.

Sandin the rookie cost them 2 goals. They battled back from a 3 goal deficit. The depth players are playing very well.

We won 3 in a row. Matty and Marner know they need to step up. They are battling through it. They'll break out.

The boys will be better prepared on Saturday and end it.

We live and die with our best players.

Gally is not our best player.

Willy for that matter - is not our best - though he is making a BIG case in these playoffs.

If this doesn't wake up our money makers, not sure what will.

If they don't get it done, what do we do with $10.6 in cap space?

Holding out hope... but damn. It's hard
That $6 mil/year salary for Willy that everyone was freaking out about is looking pretty good right now compared to the Matthews and Marner salaries. At least Willy shows up in the playoffs
