Oh I assume you didn't watch last year's series.

Tampa won that one and I see nothing convinced me that the Leafs will overcome that comes April.
I saw a Tampa team in that playoff series that was gifted a phantom call in the third period and some boneheaded play by Kerfoot in game 6. We deserved to win that series.

I also see a much more defensively responsible team this season with better goaltending. We’re missing our top 3 dman in the game, and STILL should have won. Take Hedman and Sergachev out and see how Tampa would have performed.

Short of not playing his 40 mill forwards, who have all consistently made the exact same mistakes except maybe Tavares, then what do you want him to do?

These are the situations where they should dominate, but instead they make risky, low IQ plays. Or they make mistakes and the other team pounces.

It is on the players to perform in these situations.

I would honestly start OT with Kerfoot and Engvall. Or Engvall, Nylander and Liljegren. 3 good possession players. And great at transition offense. I don’t get why Engvall doesn’t play that much in OT, it’s perfect for him.

It looks to me that they are happy to secure at least the single loser point and don’t really give a crap about the winners point.

I keep reading about the refs, is that just the standard “Leaf’s lost” excuse or did the broadcast have something specific to complain about?

Won 5 in a row, lost in OT to Tampa on the road without our 3 best d-men and negativity galore, sounds about right for this place.
I hear ya! The team has the third best win percentage in the league behind only Boston and NJ and people in here make it sound like we’re struggling. We haven’t had a regulation loss in the last 11 games. Most of these have been without our top 3 dman. This is a damn good team with very little flaws (3on3 is one of them but that won’t impact on how they’ll play in the playoffs).

How does Kucherov consistently score from that spot on the PP? He doesn’t look overly deceptive, but somehow he gets the puck off his stick in a direct lane to the net.

We don't have a team with a true Big Boy gear. Big Boy teams can use physicality in a way this team isn't built for. A physical team can start with high volume hitting and forechecking, get the sticks a little higher, throw an elbow when no one is looking, box out at the crease and do the old push and shove and face wash, get the other team hot and bothered. And just dial up and enjoy all the retaliation PP's and even up calls.
We're the other team.
We outhit Tampa. We outplayed Tampa. We got Tampa hot and bothered. We played just as "big boy" as Tampa did, if not more, and we didn't take any retaliation penalties (while Tampa did).
Tampa still had more PPs, got them at the most opportune times, and got away with suspendable actions without even a whisper from commentary or media during or after.
Your narratives are wrong.

Got a point on the road against a very good team. Marner extends his streak and the team extends it's streak of not losing in regulation. Moved into clear 4th overall. Overall, yet another good night playing with a decimated blue line.

Only blemish is losing in OT again but there is massive variance in 3on3 and there is no 3on3 in the playoffs so... not a big deal, not to me anyway.

Looking forward to the next one. GLG!!

I honestly don’t even care if Matthews gets traded after this season, after refusing to sign a contract extension in Toronto. Just get it over with at this point and get him out of here, it is inevitable
Chances are they won't sign an extension until after July 1, when they're allowed to do so under the CBA.

Before then would just be a CBA violation and any extension would not be approved by the league.

Capiche?

Murray earned the right to let in a stinker but I still prefer Ilya.

Samsonov doesn't falter when we do dumb stuff in front of him. His style is consistent no matter what. Murray has a bit of Campbell in him where he breaks down and looks off if the team in front of him breaks down a little. We saw this pre injury and we see this at odd times right now too. The team in front has been almost perfect since our 3 over rated D (over rated defensively, Brodie has sucked for over a year now which is shocking me) have been out so there's no way a goalie of Murray's caliber is going to let in much.

Playoffs is going to get more wild as every game is going to be against a contender so just using the limited sample so far , Ilya is my guy.

Possibly the Kuch hit deserved 5 instead of 2 and Hedman tackled Tavares heading to the net.

Stamkos not called for kneeing Murray in the head.

Refs called everything for 50 mins

Gonna say it again: send out 3rd liners in OT. What is there to lose? You can't do any worse than what the top guys have provided. And if these careless no look passes leading to giveaways are by design, the designer needs to be fired into the Sun. Why does this reek of Malhotra's input? Like maybe he needed something else to do after they moved him off the special teams file. There's been too much of it this season for it to be an accident, there's clearly a strategy to it.

I thought Hedman should have received a penalty, too.

But I won’t blame the refs can for the bad goaltending.

So is this what a Tampa Bay vs Toronto playoff rematch will look like if the playoffs were to begin now based on standings?

The Murray OT goal allowed not a confidence builder.

so glad avs beat the F outta tampa last season.

teams like tampa dont deserve F-all. i hope they crash and burn. all their games are rigged to help them. tampa is trash
Why did the NHL pick Tampa? Must be a Jeremy Jacobs doing, otherwise wouldn’t they pick a team to coddle that drives more revenues?

If Murray plays in the playoffs it’ll come down Vasi’s weak blocker side vs Murray’s weak glove.

I watch these potential playoff match-ups closer than some random team the Leafs won't face in a playoff matchup.

Leafs missing some key defenders skews the outcome result, but giving the game away to TB still disappointing on a goal Murray should have stopped. IMO

Some 'penalties' that weren't called that could have been and some that were called that could have been let go. About the same number of each for each team.

Refs 'put the whistle away' for the last 8 minutes after we tied it, which I don't like, but penalties 'let go' both ways.

Overall, a fairly called game. Just a few people who would rather blame someone not on their favourite team.
