Goon teams know how to goon at the right times. It is a skill, after all. If you're not built for it and you don't have guys to pull it off you're going to be on the wrong side of the retaliation call.

A good strategy might be to just play a skilled rope a dope game and bore the Lightning to sleep next time.

Lmao. You’re new here or what? For real though, you’re a troll or you have decency bias?

That’s what we did with Babs as coach.

We still got more penalties called on us VS Bruins

Chara could punch one of us and Matthews would get a penalty for breathing on a Bruin tripping on his laces.

Repeat this 20x… KaDri got suspended for doing what Bruins did to Marners face and no call.

Fix is in. MLSE pays for Tampa to play like NBA pays for the WNBA.

Let me know when we’re outta the first round beating the team, Refs and corporate America on viewers.

I'm not sure what we are doing in OT but we should probably try something different next time

WOOF

All in all not a bad result though
We played pretty well and got a point in Tampa even with our raft of injuries

Rotate the goaltenders every game, keep the boys fresh and try to keep them injury free and I think we are all good

One positive was that despite the rocky start tot he period giving up the 2 PP goals, they did a good job to kill that 3rd penalty and then took advantage of their next PP to tie the game.

Nice to see that they didn't fold it in at that point when things were going against them

While okay, what we really needed was Tavares' goal to have counted, or to have scored on the PP while up 2-1 late in the second. Those would have been nice statement plays.

It's just a guaranteed loss in 3 on 3 OT. If they can't win it in regulation just turn the TV off and enjoy the 1 point.

Oh crap.

At least there's no three-on-three in the post-season.

Crap. Crap. Crap.

Just watched the highlight package...wow, that was a woof OT goal. AM, come on, the giveaway and then the defensive coverage...and Murray...ouchymama that was bad.

There is still room for a big snarly old school ugly 4th line in this men’s league like Tampa and every other team who wins cups .
No coincidence
We don’t have one
Until we do , rinse and repeat
Sorry to say
Man what is it going to take for our management and some of our metric loving fans
GLG
We would be too 2 team in the league every year and at the very least win a round

Colorado had nothing even close one.

PIT didn't either in both of their wins.

Safe to say that a physical 4th line is not something this team needs or is missing, and people really need to stop overrating the impact that it has. Tampa's 4th line has an impact because they can play hockey and score some goals. The physicality is a nice bonus, but that isn't going to keep them in the NHL anymore than it is Clifford and Simmonds right now... and we've tried a Clifford + Simmonds 4th line. They sucked.

I'm not saying we can avoid bad calls or arbitrary officiating in any circumstances, that is beyond our control.

I'm saying if you don't have the personnel to play big boy hockey and get drawn into extra curriculars, don't waste your energy trying to keep up. Or you build a bruising team and just commit fouls at 10x the rate you get called, have a great special teams and profit. Maybe in the next era.

Yeah but having a coach who keeps trying the same thing over and over again in OT despite the same result will be a liability in the playoffs too.

Thank you for your input

Obviously 🙄 it’s about getting a 4th line that can pitch in with scoring as well !!!

I’m not saying nor have I ever said that we get a 4th line with all of them named Reeves …

You said it , impact because they can score and play !

If you need to , Type into your wizard box the last 10 cup winners and have a peek into their bottom 6 especially their fourth , you can even go back further as far back as you want , I’ll bet you there’s a commonality in the bottom 6 and 4th and then comment ..
I’m going to say this once more !
We haven’t gone past the first friken playoff round with 4 -5 world class players ( which is awesome by the way ) and predominantly soft as baby ass on the 4th .
What more stats do you need ?
Haven’t won a playoff round !!!!!!!
I don’t disagree with you on your statement .
Go Phuqqen Leafs go !

I can’t stand when people use the “there’s non 3 on 3” in the playoffs. It’s the fact that this team consistently comes up short in the biggest moments of a game, whether regular season or playoffs. It’s a mentality thing. They don’t hate losing enough.

They will continue to rack up points and make the playoffs but the overall concern of falling short in biggest moments of the game will be there until they prove otherwise.

How's Sandin doing on PP1?

Maybe a Brannstrom for Sandin swap could be in the works (just a thought).

1) We have Rielly for PP1 locked up for 8 years.

2) Sandin is significantly better than Brannstrom right now at everything else.

3) It is not even like Brannstrom is a great PP guy right now. Sandin is probably better than him on the PP as well.

4) We can use Liljegren, Mete, Hollowell, or Gio on the PP if we need an alternative. Brannstrom hasn't outperformed any of them right now.

We already have one undersized depth cast-off from the Sens in Mete. We don't need another. Other than his prestige, Brannstrom has very little value to anyone right now and needs a massive leap in the next couple of years to even stick in the NHL. Undersized offensive defensemen who struggle defensively and provide poor production are not exactly what teams want.

This is also true

Short of not playing his 40 mill forwards, who have all consistently made the exact same mistakes except maybe Tavares, then what do you want him to do?

These are the situations where they should dominate, but instead they make risky, low IQ plays. Or they make mistakes and the other team pounces.

It is on the players to perform in these situations.

This team is weird. By all accounts we should be dominating 3 on 3. Thank God that becomes irrelevant in the playoffs.

Feels like weve lost a lot of "non emotion" series. Have we forgot the Matthews laugh on Weber?
