At least he made a clearing attempt, unlike braindamaged Muzzin earlier.

Maybe its a problem with roster construction if those two guys are ostensibly the big stoppers on D.
When the puck went weak side and he had tons of time and was skating to the puck I yelled, just get the puck down the ice (knowing he wouldn't) and offfffffffffffffffff course he didn't lol. It's wild. Flip it out man. Leafy as it gets. I'm use to it. started watching when I was 5 in 88'.

That was softer than the no goal call but you had to expect we were getting a penalty at some point
Always and forever, I've watched that play Jarnkrok not called sooooooooo many times and hasn't been called. Brutal to watch and to boot the MR call for a hand pass. I am just jaded right now.

First, I agree that they need to impose a time limit on reviews.

As far as the call goes, while technically it hit Reilly's glove and then dropped to the ice where Marner picked it up, there is no way that broke the "spirit of the rule" of a hand pass. Couple that with ambiguity of the role the Yote's stick played, there is no rational for overturning the call on the ice.

The amount of hair splitting that goes on these reviews is ruining the game.
Understand what you are saying BUT strongly disagree. Who is MR trying to pass it to? too many variables in that play to be called back. That could happen once a game. It should not be part of the game, not in the essence of the rule and they really had to do it at a pivotal moment in the game (1 min left and under). It makes zero sense IMO. So a D can't bat a puck down to keep it in anymore? also, VERY inconclusive considering no call on the ice. glove, Keller skate. play on. What a joke. Not sure how you are so sure it was the right call. I'm not attacking you at all, just absolutely shocked this is the nature of our game. If this is the case I hope to see it every single game I watch other than the leafs.

I thought he made saves for us in the third to give us a chance to come back in the game, but special teams and our lack of execution on offense are the difference.

Keefe is effectively putting this game at the feet of our top 6, where it should be. Not to say there were not other issues, but any amount of reasonable execution from the top guys today and this game is not close.

If Arizona wants to collapse, you don't beat it by forcing your way inside... But you also need to do the right things on the perimeter to make them pay and we didn't do those things enough.

Also, one last thing, but can we tell our PP to allow our defensemen to shoot the puck with purpose more often?

Out of the 50 most played defensemen on the PP over the past 3 years, Rielly is among the lowest. So is Barrie. If Gio and Sandin had more minutes on our PP, they too would also be among the lowest. We flat out refuse to use our defensemen on the PP, and we can't even say that it is because "Rielly has a crap shot". Barrie, for example, is 8th in PP points over the last 3 years and is 12th in PP goals with 8th. Clearly doesn't have a crap shot. Giordano is a respectable 25th in goals with 6 and I don't think anyone says he has a poor shot. Both suffer from the same thing as Rielly.

You don't need to shoot to score. You don't need to one-time it or make it a total bomb. Just shoot with purpose, shoot to throw off the other team a little bit, and definitely shoot when it makes sense to shoot. Rielly looked off some good opportunities on the PP and it would help us not constantly cycle around on the PP without getting any shots. And especially with the team we have, we should be strong with entries and in the faceoff dot, so if they do result in the other team getting the puck and clearing/stopping it, then I would rather that than passing it around constantly looking for the perfect shot. Shooting more on defense should make it easier for the forwards to do that going forward.

There's no question in my mind that there's a conspiracy against the Leafs. But let's be honest here. They didn't deserve to win this game. They played hard for like 5 minutes the entire game.
get the tinfoil hat off your head Alex. Save it with the conspiracy bullshit. a team with this much offense shouldnt be chasing a rebuilding since the 2nd coming team like Arizona. With this much firepower we should be able to put up 4/5-0 leads and let Kallgren hold on for the W. Instead we dont show up till mid 2nd period and we're caught chasing Arizona.

Matthews is an absolute loser and you can't win with him.

Hopefully he walks as a UFA and curses some other team with his high cap hit. Then the Leafs can bring in someone who knows how to win a playoff series like McJesus.
Matthews is more concerned with gauging as much money as possible to make the team less competitive and hanging out with his new celebrity friends. Talented hockey player, but lacks the heart and desire of a maxkinnon or Crosby or ovie

Clearly some heads have to start rolling within this franchise. And soon. From the top to the bottom.
I thought that a couple of first round exits ago, apparently more pain was needed.

lmfao 4 games in and you're already jumping ship to edmonton. Have fun.

Deserved to lose. Can't just show up for half a period.

Sure the call with Reilly was lame but shouldn't have to come from behind with 30 seconds left to tie against MFing Arizona

Morgan Rielly has been on for more goals against at 5v5 than 24 NHL teams have allowed so far this year.
Reilly is brutally defensively & we will never win with him as a #1 D. Too many brain farts & his mentor (Mr Pylon Phaneuf himself) did not help in that regard. He should have been traded ages ago. This team is so disappointing....

Look, they made it interesting, but we deserved to lose. What a embarassing on ice product we are so far this year. Horrible.

Puck possession is worthless if you never do anything with the puck.

Also Justin Holl continues to be trash, nothing he provides is exceptional, except his boneheaded errors.
This Leafs team is going to miss the playoffs, straight up. The rebuild will begin this summer.

Looking at the lineup, this team isn't a Cup contender. Not really close as far as I can see.

Hot and Cold/One of the best/Elite
Excellent/Good/Malgin
Dime a dozen/Vanilla and not a centre/Dime a dozen
4th liner/Good bottom 6er/4th liner (maybe?)

Rielly/Brodie
Broken/Awful
Very Old/Looks lost

Reclamation Project with upside
Broken

Leafs are the laughingstock of the league….EVEN if you forget everything that has happened in previous years and just look at this year. Even if you forget all about the historical context of this team, and their struggles, they are the laughingstock:

- traded for murray
- lost to habs
- murray injured
- lost to Arizona

Fair point

That's a pretty narrow look at things. Most people are pissed with that lackluster effort. Leafs play down to their opponents all the time. They need to quit doing that shit and be ready for every game.

However after given time to not be pissed off... and they had an even worse start last year... I'm going to give it about 15 games until you know what's really there for this team.

I was arguing moreso against the people saying they deserved to lose.

Obviously the result is the most important thing. everyone understands that to the case.
They did deserve to lose, they certainly didn’t deserve to win.

Who gives a f*** about a butchered hand pass call in the 4th game of the year

This team did not show up until the last 10 minutes vs f***ing ARIZONA, probably the worst team in the entire league. That's alarming and just embarrassing, Keefe is right. The elite players didn't play like elite players. This game should not have been close, Matthews gets shutdown by the Coyotes ? 0/4 on the first 4 PP with ZERO shots. There's lots of concerns with this team after that game, I couldn't give less of a f*** about a butchered call. They deserved to lose that game, just embarrassing being a fan right now. They put up the same shitty performance vs Montreal. I don't know what the issue is but this team needs to seriously start showing up on time and treat every opponent with the same level of respect. It's like they walk in expecting a free win and get their asses handed to them vs the bottom teams, just unacceptable.

Maybe they are in the process of tuning out the coach?

Guess time will tell.

If they tune out this coach as well then it's a player attitude problem. Babcock was too tough this coach is a players coach and basically let them do whatever they want and they still want to tune him out?
Hearing crazy numbers for Matthews contract 16.7 for 8 years? Why? He hasn't carried this team on his back in the playoffs.
He's obviously the best player we've ever had but at the same time does he have the will to push all the way?
Same goes for Marner.
