Maybe it's because people can recognize that Matthews is the clear mvp of the team, and Andersen has been a distant 3rd best goalie. Obviously one player is going to get a lot more slack for a poor game

Matthews has not been the clear cut MVP on this team, Marner has been as good if not better then him this year. 5v5, pp, pk Marner is a player from every situation.
And coincidentally Matthews has his best stretch of hockey with marner

Every now and then you get one of those games where the Leafs show their immaturity again. We get this team in the playoffs and we are f***ed.

Marner was a bad joke on skates tonight.

Vancouver is much improved from earlier in the season and Demko is giving them exceptional confidence that they can overcome the quantity of giveaways that plague them. Thought they worked hard a checked well in both games. Closed time and space for Toronto and made the Leafs top line look really pedestrian.

Looking forward to the alcohol induced hot takes in this thread about how the sky is falling... Despite the team having obvious flaws and simply coming back down to Earth a little bit.

Their best player, Pettersson was injured the last 2 games...Leafs didn't take advantage...playing too cute and not desperate enough...I guess they were full of themselves after beating up the Oilers.

I haven't seen us melt down like this with our back ups. Even if we lose with them, the goals usually aren't embarrassing like they are with Freddy.

It feels like they enjoy playing in front of Campbell a lot more than Andersen. And even with Hutch they’re protective of him. Andersen just doesn’t really foster a stable winning atmosphere.

Andersen has hovered at a .900% all season, no shocker that he sucked once again.

Matthews, Marner, Thornton and Nylander were dog shit from start to finish. Matthews has been invisible for four games now.

No effort, no passion, just gave up to a B team. Pretty pathetic all around effort. THIS is the Leafs I know and remember from years prior.

He was good tonight. He was besides Hyman easily the most dangerous forward.

Synopsis:

- HNIC is a mind numbingly bad show now. I was already in a terrible mood to watch this because of the pregame.
- Our top players were bad. Like really bad. So many giveaways and bad passes.
- Nylander looked great until the brainfart.
- Matthews needs a few more games off.
- Worst game Marner has played in a couple of years.
- Vancouver got away with a LOT. Leafs were looking at the refs all game with the "Seriously?" look and they were right.
- On the whole, for 2 out of 3 periods I thought we were still better through all of this but our goaltender is just not good.

What a terrible way to spend my Saturday evening.

We didn’t even need to “take advantage” just needed to play their A Game. Seems like they were a little bit satisfied after the job well done in Edmonton vs McJesus and just didn’t really take Vancouver too seriously.

On any given game, Andersen is capable of playing like complete garbage and completely handing the game to the other team. It happened again tonight

We were talking in the GDT about Freddy before it got closed, anyways, I'm not sure how goals 2 and 3 were on Andersen. A tip in front on a PP and a fluky bounce off Rielly and broken stick for Brodie. Goal 4 was all Andersen.

If the Leafs play like they just did no doubt. Hellebuyck is a much better goalie than Andersen so we can already bet that Andy will be out-goaltended again, as he so often is. If the Leafs can’t kill a penalty Scheifele, Connor, Ehlers, Dubois, and the Jets other weapons are going to absolutely feast on us.

Our first line will be the reason why we get swept by the Jets.

One player is just playing poorly and being a giveaway machine; another player should out of the lineup due to injury; and the last player is playing like he belongs in an Alumni Classic.
