It feels like they enjoy playing in front of Campbell a lot more than Andersen. And even with Hutch they’re protective of him. Andersen just doesn’t really foster a stable winning atmosphere.

Hutch and Campbell are going to get beat on good plays, it is what it is. You can halfway control how often you let teams get chances in the slot. You can generally be confident that if you take away the slot and give the other team point shots, you're probably going to be fine.

What are you supposed to do to help Freddy? You're not going to stop the other team from taking random bad angle shots. You're constantly in danger with Freddy no matter where the puck is in your zone. You're in danger in the offensive zone because you know Freddy's 100% getting beat if there's an odd man rush. Even when he's in full November god-mode, every goal he lets in makes the team panic because they know he's likely to let another one in 30 seconds later because he has 0 mental fortitude. I don't care how good the guy's numbers are (even though they're atrocious this year) if the team can't play their game with confidence because of his little quirks.

I mean we're tied after that then Marner has two horrific unforced turnovers that end up leading to the final goals. We lost by 2, so....

that does not work that way.billy started all of that sequence. Marner just tried to do too much. We likely win this by 2-1.

Like I've always said, Leafs can easily win the wide open, fast paced games. They are not at their best when it's a scrappy game that they can't free wheel. They are not a playoff team. They are at their best against teams like Edmonton and maybe even Tampa. If the opposition can bottle them up they are in trouble. A bad game tonight.

Maybe it's because people can recognize that Matthews is the clear mvp of the team, and Andersen has been a distant 3rd best goalie. Obviously one player is going to get a lot more slack for a poor game

And its not like people aren't criticizing the top line. Freddy always gets excused for his egregious play.

Really pathetic effort tonight all around. This was supposed to be a bounce back game against a bottom feeder, but we were the second best team on the ice by far for large stretches of the game.

Marner's worst game of the season, but none of our top players really showed up while Vancouver's were flying. I'd also like to see a big save from Andersen at some point.

Keefe needs to make some adjustments and get some players some rest.

This though...no need to run our older guys every single game...Spezza is fine he’s only playin 10-12 a night but Jumbo needs a rest as does BOGO...while we are at it can we PLEASE Rest Matthews and let his wrist heal...Mo should watch a game just to get his head on right again...he looks panicky on the ice and that is really unlike him

In the end it was a bad game sht happens move on to a pissed off Winnipeg (lost to the Habs 7-1) they’ll be out for blood...it’ll be a good test, get rested and get ready boys...the North isn’t a walk regardless of what anyone says

Also you’re the Toronto effin Maple Leafs you don’t get nights off because the rest of the league LOVES to beat us

Look it’s real simple. When was the last time Andersen stole a game? It certainly hasn’t been this season, and I can’t think of any examples from last year either. However, Andersen certainly knows how to blow games and series, such as tonight and against Columbus last year.

We’re well past the point of excuses for him. He doesn’t f***ing have it and it’s evident if the Leafs aren’t on their game defensively he won’t bail them out.

Outcoached, terrible PK, crappy FO's, & bad bounces tonight.

I'm no Andersen fan but I won't blame this one on him tbh. 3 of the goals were just terrible bounces.

On to the next game & some rest for the boys.

Andersen constantly loses his net and makes it really easy to beat him. Most goalies can position themselves very well and take most of the net away, but not him. He doesn't let in many super egregious goals, but he constantly gets beat more than an average goalie would
I don't disagree, I just don't pin this loss on him. Like I said, goals 2 and 3 were off some horrible plays from Nylander and Marner.

Leafs actually lost twice to this garbage ^

if Matthews wrist is injured I would swap JT and him. Give Marner JT who can shoot and let them get old chemistry together. Nylander becomes the shooter with Matthews who can still shoot but set up Nylander. JT is not a passer like Marner and Matthews
Once everyone is healthy decide on what works best.

We're fine at 2-2 and looking solid. Hell, even down 3-2 we have a legit shot.

Even the GTG wasn't much of a play

It feels like they enjoy playing in front of Campbell a lot more than Andersen. And even with Hutch they’re protective of him. Andersen just doesn’t really foster a stable winning atmosphere.

Andersen of 3 years ago was Demo of tonight. He wasn't horrible, but I fear him not being mentally focused. Campbell to me seems like the relaxed, steady goalie, at least on the ice.

I think of Brodeur and his constant smiling while being focused and confident . That's the prototype goalie mentality. I worry that with new expectations, Andersen might not rise to the occasion. Your goalie must be your best player most nights to win in the playoffs.

It's clear the boys were tired. They didn't have their legs, were falling all night and one step behind. When they're winning they control the boards and win faceiffs. Not the case tonight.

It's to be expected. They came off the series against Edmonton leaving it all on the ice. That was intense hockey and could not be sustained. If anybody has played sports it's all about adrenaline leaving the body and leaving you sapped. It's also psychological, when you play an equal foe and gear up for them as the leaf's did with Edmonton the next opponent is hard to get up for.
Too many games in short succession, simple as that.

Not sure if the tired excuse flies. Vancouver actually played more games than Toronto. If anything, they should be more tired.

First time all season where the Leafs have lost back to back games in regulation, and they went 3-2 on this road trip despite the question marks that revolve around the health of Matthews and the goalies.

Y'all need to relax. Burn the tape and regroup for Tuesday.

Can't wait for the Freddy excuses today. Let me get it started
"He came back from injury". It's the defence's fault

This loss has pissed me off more than any this season.

I really thought they had turned the corner as a team.

But the lack of intensity shown in these past two games makes it clear they are still not 'that' team.

I hate that they make me this angry lol... I hate it. I fully expect loses vs WPG.
Nylander is a veteran now .unacceptable flipping that puck over tye glass .
Lazy play .
U eat that puck first

Here’s what I’ll say.

- This team consistently looks more relaxed and comfortable in front of Jack Campbell.

- Frederik Andersen is gone at the end of the year. Doesn’t matter what happens between now and then.

- Now is the time, when he’s healthy, to give Jack Campbell a long run as the teams goalie. We know he’s a high quality backup, lets say if he can be more.

Overall, this team was lost due to a fluke offensive zone penalty in period 1, and a fluke puck over glass penalty in period 3. The second period wasn’t great.
