Good grief, this place is a lunatic asylum after a loss. It wasn't their best game. Vancouver played well. Demko's on a heater. Matthews can't shoot due to injury. Marner...

To all who are losing their mind's, take a deep breath, consider that we're still in first overall, someone out there loves you, you'll wake up tomorrow, sip a good cup of coffee - maybe some bacon and eggs - and relax. It's not the end of the world

I'm now going to stretch out this old and tired body, go to the range, hit some golf balls and fugetaboutit. Have yourselves a good eve folks. Cheers.

Our special teams really were abysmal this series. 0/3 on the PP and even more damaging 0/3 on the PK. We also lost the faceoff battle winning 46 and 44 percent of the draws on Thursday and tonight.

Whatever confidence was built up against Edmonton has been shot to hell. Maybe a good thing in the long run so this team doesn't take things for granted anymore, but f*** does it sting right now.

Thornton doesn't look injured to me, he looks 41 years old trying to keep up with players half his age. The games are adding up and jumbo is fading. A serious cup contender doesn't have him weighing down their first line.

He shouldn't be playing any higher up the lineup than Spezza.

He's been fantastic for every game apart from two, maybe.

This is what's so frustrating, who says Thornton can't be on the first line on a cup contender? You? Based on what? It's never really been done before. So you can't so it will or it won't.

I wonder if Dubas will read these boards on the plane ride home tonight?

He's gotta have a burner account?

We didn’t respect our opponent the last two games and you can’t do that ....
I have no idea why you'd think they disrespected the Canucks in Game 1.

The Leafs were tired and the better team, just didn't convert. They lost the game on a puck they put in their own net and a misplay by their 3rd string goalie.

So I've watched that 3-2 goal like 5 times and I still don't understand what Rielly is doing there. He literally doesn't even try to look to see where the puck is? He just kinda coasts and keeps staring at the boards like he thinks the first shot went in or something.

Looks like he was caught rubber necking the exploding stick and just forgot he was playing pro hockey for a moment.

if I went to the range id be swinging like Bryson DeChambeau lol, take the frustration out with some hard swings lol

Just remember, no matter how good things are going misery and humiliation are only ever two games away for us Leafs fans.

Some perspective; Boston lost 7-2 to the Islanders, then 6-2 to the Rangers a few games back. They also lost 2 of 3 against the 7-10-2 NJD.

The Sabres blew out the Flyers 6-1.

3 of Florida’s 4 regulation losses came at the hands of the 6-8-4 Dallas Stars (it was their only win over an 11 game span) and the 7-16-3 Red Wings (who won twice to the tune of 2-1 and 4-1)

The Colorado Avelanche were just spanked 6-2 by the San Jose Sharks.

St.Louis has lost 4 of 7 to the Arizona Coyotes. And lost 3 of 5 to the LA Kings.

We need to get back to playing team D and start winning again, but all good teams have these kinds of nights and end up taking embarrassing L’s.

Can’t blame Andersen for any of the goals tonight but over his career he has never been a guy who makes the big save at the critical time.
I'd disagree with that - he was excellent at the start of his tenure with the Leafs and he was good enough on the defensively disciplined Ducks. His game has taken a major downturn the last two seasons, however. This doesn't line up with Keefe's hiring either, given that he was playing poorly before Babcock was sacked.

If Nylander had played like Marner did today, there would be 20 new threads and 15 articles about him sucking

Hyman, Nylander and Brodie only players who didn’t suck
If Nylander put up points like Marner did this season, we’d be talking about how his contract is a steal

I get it , but we need to play or shift on some players in the first one at the very least ..
But even though we were ok in the first , I didn’t see that real urgency
I get all the reasons why not
Tired , travel , too many games , just came off a great 3 game series
I really get it , but this was a lower class team and we are supposed to be top 3
Sorry it’s the NHL
I get it friend , all those things you said and they are valid , but we need to fight through that and frankly we have a lot of young guys in there prime ..
Go leafs Go

We haven't really even had normal good times up until 2016-17, and then that was intermixed with horrible and unusual breakdowns and letdowns, so it's a miracle we're all still here.

Most teams haven't. There have been very few excellent stretches put together by organizations around the league recently in the grand scheme of things.

We don't have among the very best D-cores in the league. We don't have among the very best goaltending situations in the league... Because of that, we rely on the offense, and largely, the powerplay. We're a very 1 dimensional franchise in that way. When the offense dries up, the team is often exposed. We struggle to win ugly, because we're not built that way.

We're a good team. Probably top 10 in the grand scheme of the league as currently constructed, but the build towards true contention is still very much in progress.

We don't have a top 5-7 goalie in the league that you would want heading into the playoffs.

We don't have a monster minute eater on defense that is always reliable both ways, ala prime Chara, Hedman, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Keith, etc. It's hard to be great consistantly without that kind of stud.

We don't have a legitimate, 82 game, top 6 left wing and that handicaps our top 2 groups at times.

We're getting closer, but still missing key pieces.

I think tonight's the only time in a long while that's been the case.
Well, not a good look getting swept but the Canucks. This was a reality check for the players and us fans. The team is no where near as good as we thought.

I have been saying it for years now, Andersen is no damn good. Jack Campbell is the best goalie this Toronto team has, and for whatever reason they are scared to give him games.

Matthews didn’t skate well. Whatever that has to do with his wrist is mental maybe. He’s not doing much and not taking his ice. If he doesn’t want to shoot get someone in that can

And if we won, you would say we are the best team ever.
Relax with the hot takes.

Seat Matthews until he is healthy. We were just fine without him in Edm games. We still have 1st line centre. No issue. Our dept plays great. Why force it?
I agree with this. Matthews is clearly injured. He can’t even shoot the puck. If it takes him sitting 10 games to get better, then let him. We need him healthy, not at 40%.

Jack Campbell has had some bad luck with injuries. It's sort of ruining his bid to nail down a 1B platoon gig. Andersen is no good though. Like I said last summer, we needed to dispose of Andersen's contract and pay the small upgrade fee for Markstrom. (I also said Holtby but that wouldn't have been a good solution).

Next up is the expansion draft wheeling and dealing. See if we can grab a goalie worth protecting there that another team is set to lose.

Campbell is injured right now

Being first in this division is nice but pretty meaningless. Nothing about this team's play suggests they won't choke in the playoffs again. Top lines still gets shut down for long stretches and the coaches aren't able to do anything about it. Freddy still plays his worst in high pressure situations.
