Some perspective; Boston lost 7-2 to the Islanders, then 6-2 to the Rangers a few games back. They also lost 2 of 3 against the 7-10-2 NJD.

The Sabres blew out the Flyers 6-1.

3 of Florida’s 4 regulation losses came at the hands of the 6-8-4 Dallas Stars (it was their only win over an 11 game span) and the 7-16-3 Red Wings (who won twice to the tune of 2-1 and 4-1)

The Colorado Avelanche were just spanked 6-2 by the San Jose Sharks.

St.Louis has lost 4 of 7 to the Arizona Coyotes. And lost 3 of 5 to the LA Kings.

We need to get back to playing team D and start winning again, but all good teams have these kinds of nights and end up taking embarrassing L’s.

And WPG lost 7-1 to MTL tonight.

I think tonight's the only time in a long while that's been the case.

I agree. It hasn't really cost us a lot lately but passes are getting picked off more often because other teams are anticipating it. It's more frustrating than costly. We've just been lucky that guys like Brodie and Muzzin are on the back end to make up for it.

I'm definitely not new. Why I find it funny recently is because of the fragility and insecurity of this fan base, due to the let downs of previous years. Even the slightest hiccup in the season has some people losing their minds.

Demko was ridiculous in both those games. Toronto missed a bunch of open nets and failed to bury chances they usually do. The Leafs shot far too many pucks into Demko's chest, or missed high over the net one good scoring chances. The goaltending was basically the same goaltending we always get... Sometimes games don't fall in your favour. This team is wayyyyyyy too flawed to be get upset over a couple bad stretches this year. We were always going to lose games.

Are we really that flawed...

That said, I fully get why people get upset. This team hasn't made a cup final in 55 years. Everyone's always waiting for the other shoe to drop...

Told y’all. Who cares tho. We need to face adversity. We’re going to lose 3-4-5 games
In a row and likely right now.

Good to see what this teams made of. So far it’s not a good look. Our best players suck and need to be immensely better

Leafs with the most points in the league, 4th or 5th I think in points percentage. "Good to see what this teams made of", "going to lose 5 games in a row".

The top goal scorer, two guys in top 6 in scoring. "Our best players suck", "need to be immensely better".

Solid takes bud.

If Nylander put up points like Marner did this season, we’d be talking about how his contract is a steal
Given his production and the number of players who are producing less but making more $$$ than he is, his contract is a steal.

The Tavares line wasn't the problem tonight. Nylander has been excellent these past couple of weeks. Preconceived notions don't trump facts.

Precisely. Happens to everyone... Including better teams than Toronto. Our opponents have paid professionals as well and the circumstances of a season like this means that your team is going to run into some tired, rough stretches, where there isn't much time to practice or fix team issues.

There's a reason it's never been done before

In case you were unaware, the Leafs are an innovative organization with an innovative GM in a sport that is allergic to innovation.

Again, your opinion makes no sense because Thornton has played extremely well on the whole. You have just made up your mind that Thornton can't work there, and despite quantitative and qualitative evidence refuse to believe what's right in front of you.

His wrist is for sure bothering him.. he is my favorite player in the nhl 'hell I own his official jersey' I KNOW he is not feeling well... He didn't have his jump, his stuck and puck control, and I only saw him take one full out shot tonight, that was it.. he's hurting, and I suspect Joe is as well. what do we do about it? only Keefe and staff knows.. .we shall see.
I've gotten the impression that Matthews has been hurting for a while now. That snap he has in his shot just isnt there. I think that's why we've seen him playing bumper a lot on the PP. Given the standings and the time off coming up, it's time to sit him for a week. We're going to make the playoffs barring a major collapse. Sit your franchise player to get ready for the post-season.

For a team that has a history of losing... you'd think this fanbase could handle it. Even after a loss in which they didn't look terrible either.

Guess not.

This loss has pissed me off more than any this season.

I really thought they had turned the corner as a team.

But the lack of intensity shown in these past two games makes it clear they are still not 'that' team.

I hate that they make me this angry lol... I hate it. I fully expect loses vs WPG.

We're flawed relative to the expectations of many that this team be a Cup favourite.

No prime goalie that will steal games. No 26+ minute per night monster on the back end... It's not like the team has 20 flaws, but where it does, they're obvious and the kind that make it hard to have high playoff expectations. When the whistles go away and the scoring is tight in the playoffs, some of the same flaws will emerge.

I'm just enjoying the season for what it is. Hoping we upgrade a little bit at the deadline and can get to the final 4. That would be fun.

well we did look terrible. Far from losing it though.

Fair point. Just frustrating and disappointing. When we see how good they can be... and then see two games (well really this one was the bad one) like this. We all want this to be the team that ends the drought so when we get performances like this, 54 years of failure bubbles to the top of mind.

I think consistency is what will get it done in the end, and games like this remind us all that this team still has a ways to go... and lets be honest, 31 games still to go to accomplish that.

It was just such a high coming off those three EDM games... clearly not only for us fans ;-)

They need to be a team that fights through the struggles and out of grooves. Even in a shortened season we'll have a few losing streaks, every team does

Right. And that has nothing to do with wins and losses, but rather has everything to do with the moment and playing the way you need to give yourself the best chance at a win even if its a shit game. Tonight, once down 3-2 they completely threw all structure to the wind and pulled out the non-sense-hope-and-a-prayer game plan. They were not playing well to begin with, but they still had a chance until they went all 'junior'.

Did they look terrible? Or did Demko play great, again, Vancouver play a tight checking, patient game in front of him, and Toronto miss some high scoring chances that it usually doesn't?

I thought the goaltending played like our goaltending usually does...

I thought the D-core was pretty much the D-core...

I thought 2 of our lines were pretty dominant and simply struggled to finish...
