Unfortunately, I don't think we're built that way. The team is built on creativity, speed, offensive pressure and the ability to draw penalties and get to their powerplay. It doesn't mean they can play good defensively hockey for stretches, but they're just flat out nit the type of team that is going to consistantly play and win greasy games.
Better learn and or get a couple more guys in that can because the playoffs is this game the Canucks played x20

Me too. I’m homeless now but my hovel has wifi.
Well that makes me feel better because if you weren't that would be like giving out tips at the racetrack but not betting the horse yourself. Bwlieve me I knew a waiter at the racetrack that would go around and give different tips to different people. Then showup at the winning table looking for a big tip. Scammers everywhere people. lol!

In case you were unaware, the Leafs are an innovative organization with an innovative GM in a sport that is allergic to innovation.

Again, your opinion makes no sense because Thornton has played extremely well on the whole. You have just made up your mind that Thornton can't work there, and despite quantitative and qualitative evidence refuse to believe what's right in front of you.

Extremely well is a bit of a stretch. He has been good/great on that line some games and dreadful others where physically he was a full step behind. IMO that position needs a mainstay not a part timer splitting ice time with Hyman. Call it innovation or whatever you want but it's asking a lot out of a guy who is 41 years old with lots of kms on him.

Agree to disagree.

Top line was inadequate again, particularly Marner and Thornton. Keefe should have given Thornton a rest last game cause he looked like he was sludging through mud all game, losing balance, having trouble handling the puck.

The entire team looked sluggish again and outfought for most pucks. They had trouble handling the puck in their own zone and there were some Babcockian giveaways. No doubt Nylander's penalty was the turning point. He was subpar again.

I guess we've answered the question whether this team has matured enough to be able to win a great series then followup with a similar display against a weaker inferior team. Keefe should have used fresher legs, but that doesn't excuse the lack of effort from our better players like Marner. We can be beat if the team doesn't skate like they want the puck. Freddy will never be anything more than a middling goalie so we have to score more than 2 goals to win.

Dubas needs to do his job now, solidifying the forwards with a trade. Forsberg, Granlund, Hall, I don't care, but honestly this team as constituted will have trouble against Tampa, Boston, or Washington.

My daughter is still pretty bummed here in Vancouver
I told her , I don’t want to hear it .. until she gets to the 5o plus years of disappointment
Oh wait
I won’t be around by a long shot lolol
She’s a true Fan
She’s really down

Anyone else worried that Matthews requires surgery, but is putting it off because it will end his season? He doesn't look right and the Leafs wouldn't rush him back if he wasn't ready unless what I said above is true.
I could be wrong but I don’t think so
A more serious wrist injury wouldn’t allow a hockey player do much of anything , even a lot less than he’s doing

I've gotten the impression that Matthews has been hurting for a while now. That snap he has in his shot just isnt there. I think that's why we've seen him playing bumper a lot on the PP. Given the standings and the time off coming up, it's time to sit him for a week. We're going to make the playoffs barring a major collapse. Sit your franchise player to get ready for the post-season.

Finally, someone who is thinking the same as me, lol. Agreed 100% Give him some time off. We have enough talent to make due whilst he heals!

I might be the Minority here , don’t know ?
Fred’s not perfect , but he’s one of the better ones in my opinion ..
But I don’t think tonight was on him , sorry folks , we played poorly everywhere

No Freds not perfect nor is he a bad goalie. But he's also not a top 10 goalie, He makes big save but sometimes doesn't make the easy ones. You really can't blame him on recent playoff loses but on the other hand he's been outplayed by the guy at the other end of the ice in all of the last 3 playoff runs. So like I said he's not a bad goalie he's just not as good as the guys we seem to run into. I'll believe in Fred when he seals the deal in a clutch game or series. But I haven't had that kinda faith in a Leaf goalie since Belfour left.

Losses like this are good. This Team gets it's tires pumped up too often, and you can tell it filters into the players and they start believing it.

Got out-hustled and out-worked the entire game. A double dose of humble pie is good for the soul, and these boys just got 2 plates of it.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and go off to the next game not believing that a W is a foregone conclusion.

Just go and work for the damn thing.

Special teams were pathetic. Top line was awful. Nuff said. Lots to fix for Tuesday. Jets will wanting to make a statement game of their own after the embarrassing loss to Montreal. 9 games against them in our last 30 games. Yeesh.

Don't get mad but expectations may be a tad high. Playing in, arguable, the weakest division in the league. There is no bite to this dog. Fancy skaters and shooters. Great at the wide open game. When they were bottled up like the last 2 games and forechecked, they are mediocre. Keep saying they are not a playoff team.

Played a meh game tonight, still thought it was a winnable game and our top line was awful tonight. It seemed like the team couldn't connect with each other and every play was sloppy. Don't understand the Andersen hate for todays game, first goal was back door tap in on the PK, second goal was a point shot tipped in and lastly the third goal was just a nice shot.

In saying that our PK needs to find a way to improve, last couple playoff rounds its killed us and its 15th in the league right now.

A couple of losses and the real fans come out

I question if Matthews wrist is fully healed but he's definitely not helped by Thornton looking his age.

Marner decision making tonight wasn't the best.

JT looking better...doesn't seem in sync with Nylander.

3rd line is good

4th line isn't bad either.

Leafs need to bring up Robertson and trade for a quality left winger while rotating Thornton in and out of the line up at LW. That would give us much more

I agree that sometimes Andersen gets unfair ciritism and the Leafs actually didn't give up a PK goal against last playoffs in 5 games so he can make the stops when it counts buuuuuuut.....

This year, the PK gives up the 6th fewest shots/60 in the league and xGA/60 for the PK is the 4th lowest in the league.

Team save% is 28th in the league on the PK.

Campbell has an .889 save% on the PK.
Hutch has an .850 save% on the PK.
Andersen has a .794 save% on the PK.

Out of the 28 goalies who have played 60+ PK mintues this year, that ranks Andersen 25th (-2.78 GSAA/60)

He has to be better here.

The goalies are just as banged up as anyone else on the team I think though so let's get everyone rested up for the next game.
