Did you even see the play lol? There was no reason to “eat” the puck along the boards he had very little pressure on him, you could see he was trying to soft bank it off the glass for Kerfoot to jump around the D and skate on to...the puck bounced on him it’s bad luck

That rule needs to be refined though...how do you call delay of game on a play like that with no pressure on the puck carrier basically right at the blue line

Ya .and in a 2-1 game u get the puck out .he wasn't pressured yet .
He can't do that play

It's a ridiculous rule, always has been.

Shoot the puck down the ice to relieve pressure and delay the game, it's a face off.
Accidently flip it over the glass and it's a delay of game penalty.

Just another in a long line of inconsistent NHL 'rules"

After this game I can see why there is talk of Dubas looking to add some more grit. Virtanen runs Papi and no response, I think they intimidated Mitch too tbh. Can't go into the playoffs with your best players getting pushed around. Oh, to have this guy back in the lineup once again...

Because there is no real competition in the CDN div to seriously test the Leafs, and they don't really need to compete at a high level that there are some concern creeping into Leafs overall game.

Matthews high sticking as he clips a player and Van scores.
Nylander coming out of his own zone with no pressure puts the puck over glass delay of game and Van ties the game.
Marner has 2 X careless giveaways near center and Canucks score on both turnovers to win the game.

The fear that complacency is going to raise its ugly head as Leafs coast to a playoff spot, might result in more of these types of mental breakdowns, which will result in losses even against poor teams.

Hopefully these losses, and the Winnipeg set coming up will snap the Leafs out of this mini funk as they look to hold off the Jets for the Div lead. We need more Edmonton effort than Van effort in their play.

Inexcusable though whether you agree with the rule or not.

I've already excused it and moved on with my life because I'm not an absolute hardo. It was an unlucky penalty it's not like he's taking a delay of game penalty every single game. Take a deep breath bud. Guess who's still first in the league?

 Good for you. What’s a hardo?

Whats weird about the over the glass rule is that its automatic no matter the intent.

We give refs the power to discern intent on such things like instigating and embellishment and we let the refs decide delay of game when it comes to players pushing the net off and goaltender freezes, etc...

Why set a different standard for this?

If the goal is to penalize someone for doing something wrong and that wrong thing is intentionally throwing the puck over the glass, the rule fails horribly. It's literally a rule in which more innocent players are put in the box more than guilty ones.

Its a stupid rule.

Leafs with the most points in the league, 4th or 5th I think in points percentage. "Good to see what this teams made of", "going to lose 5 games in a row".

The top goal scorer, two guys in top 6 in scoring. "Our best players suck", "need to be immensely better".

Solid takes bud.

So you can say our top guys have been good lately? If yes then you haven’t been watching. They have been abysmal. Matthews Marner Rielly all terrible again. Add Anderson but he just sucks in general.

When you trip or high stick someone intent doesn't matter either.

The refs still have to make a call on it though. They let trips go all the time that probably should be called and call trips that the other team does to their own players.

Maybe its just that they dont wanna let the refs handle that hand grenade and the simplicity of it is an easy out?

Another Saturday night where Hughson puts it in my face.

I can't believe Leaf fans allowed him to do his antics and pay him a salary at the same time for all these years...

It wasn’t always that way. The GMs had their reasons for changing the rule. Maybe fan safety?

I suppose that could be a reason behind it.

It just seems to me that if you were going to deliberately trying to relieve pressure in your own zone, it's much easier to just ice the puck than to try and shoot it up over the glass.

I’d say it’s easier to flip it over the glass but really the issue is intent. Nylander obviously didn’t intend to delay the game there but he still was careless.
They should change the rule to be below the hash marks instead of the blue line

The rule is black and white. I don't like the rule, as I do not like the trapazoid but the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Nylander simply suffered a brain cramp.

Wins are obviously better than losses, but we also need to face some adversity throughout the season to keep everyone motivated and sharp. If the boys just cruise through the regular season in first place and into the playoffs it can backfire. Look at what happened to Tampa Bay 2 seasons ago against Columbus in the first round.

Talk about getting humbled. Andersen sucked an our special teams killed us. Couldn’t score on the PP and the PK was f***ing trash.

to blame the goalie on a night Marner coughed up 2 goals is really rich. never blame magic mitch.

Leafs Last night with Nylander-Tavares on the ice:
Shot attempts: 10-1 for Leafs
Shots: 6-0 for Leafs
Scoring chances: 6-1 for Leafs
Goals: 1-0 for Leafs
