The Leafs haven't looked good. They need to figure out what their team looks like PDQ.

I thought they looked good in the first, but were terrible in the second. The 7 D plan doesn’t seem to work.

once again facing a team that collapsed back we had no answer, got impatient and gave up rush chances.

Obviously, getting a 3rd period pp which if we were the Bruins would be an automatic goal but turned into two shorties —- Saturday night mood killer.

The good news would be that Murray looked fine.

Unfortunately that sentiment runs from Shanny through Dubas to Keefe. Conference final or all 3 of them should be gone

That's where I am at.

If they don't make it this year they will sell the farm to get whatever players they can short term to get it done. If that also fails we'll likely lose players and need a rebuild.

Why would the top players want to stay here if they have no confidence in management?

I said it after the Oilers game, the team will probably go 1-2 after this Western swing. Also, they didn’t just add players to the lineup but actually adding players to change the way they played. This will take time to adjust.

What I saw today and I also mentioned on the GDT, that they are not only protecting Murray after the whistle but starting crap on Demko after the whistle. And how Lafferty and Acciari just kept bumping Miller when he was going off for a change. How Schenn and McCabe was laying the body. You noticed how quick McCabe jumped in to protect JT. How everyone was finishing checks.

These stuff will pay dividends at the end. And they did against the Flames. It didn’t happened today bc the top guys are still being a bit too careless, not just the two shortys but also 5v5 when they allowed the Nucks to have odd man rushes.
Our top guys need to be better and stop being careless, bc odd man rushes are our Achilles heel over the past playoffs. You just can’t expect our goalie, whoever that maybe, to continue to make those saves and bail out the team.

Today is one of those games that, Demko and Murray just made saves that they should, I don’t think Demko robbed the Leafs and vice versa. The diff is Murray faced more odd man rushes and he can’t save them all.
It's all well and good that your bottom 6 guys are roughing it up but you need to top 6 guys to do the same. I have yet to see those guys do it.

Contrast that to the Sabres Lightening game and their top guys were roughing it up as well.

Just gonna put this out there.

Playing Schenn last night put a target on our best players. Tavares got nailed twice, and they were taking far more liberties with the big 4 than I have seen all season.

You mean the Tampa players that got benched for not competing?

Need to go back to 12-8-2 format. 11F, 7D has never looked good when we’ve tried it.

Also hopefully O’Reilly is okay. If he broke his hand, we’re f***ed.

A lot of hot takes in here. So here's mine.
- Keefe only screwed up on one thing last night. Mathews should never have been playing along the blue line with a bum leg. Whats worse.. it happened twice. He had ZERO speed to recover. The rest of the game is on the players fault for failing to execute.
- What happens now with these crappy games only matters as far as final standings. If the players play anything like this in the playoffs, I am all for giving Keefe the boot.
- Mathews should sit for a few games if he is banged up, unless its one of those injuries that it doesn't matter how long he rests.

There are no bottom standing teams in the playoffs. No excuses come playoffs. I still have faith they will bring it come playoffs.

That was after it got to 4-1 half way through the 2nd. Up til then both teams top players were into the rough stuff. Even the Sabres top guys were roughing it up. IMO either your top guys have it in them or they don't.

I hate to say this cause you never wish this on anyone but we need Rielly to suffer some kind of injury because it’s obvious Keefe isn’t going to limit his minutes nor reign him in. Heck he won’t even take him off the PP. We looked the most cohesive defensively when Rielly was injured. He’s all over the place with the lowest defensive IQ I’ve seen since Gardiner.

Champion's know when things are not going your way, how to muddy the waters until the other team makes a mistake. Can this team play ugly, on purpose and win? These guys are 100% of the time trying to score 6 goals every shot, every rush. There is no smart in their games, no purpose, no chill, everyone wants that Sportsdesk highlight reel pass or goal, these guys are WAYYYY too caught up in their own egos. They are cupcake fancy pants plays junkies. Those pretty passes are just not there in the playoffs, it comes down to minimising your mistakes and ground and pound.

Until we get a strong coach, Quenneville c'mon down, this team is going nowhere and Yes Quenneville will be allowed back in the league some day, he's working very closely with the NHL to rehabilitate his image... errr I mean for reprogramming ... errr I meant ... ;)

E transfer. Lol.

But I don’t trust anybody to pay up on here. That’s why I was thinking more of an account bet.
Make it gentlemans bet. I'd never wager money and accounts is too dire an outcome.

Leafs will beat T.B (let's just hope they stay healthy).

That is a pretty clear inditement that Keefe has no f-ing clue how to set up a winning lineup.

For the record Stamkos, Point, Kucherov were all bench for the 3rd period in their last game because they were playing like dogshit. Mentioning it just in case Sheldon you might want to hold your player's accountable. Who am I kidding, once you get a roster spot on a Toronto roster, you are entitled to your minutes, no matter how shitty you are playing, you don't have to earn them. It's always about the me not the we in Toronto.

Nobody runs 7D because it’s stupid, once again our own hubris that we‘re smarter than everyone.
All it does is forces you to scramble you F lines and D pairings. Unless there's a flu bug in the room, it is indeed stupid.

Injury is harsh but when I see Rielly in deep and 34 at the point on the PP, I ask myself if 44, the dman is not going to play the point, WTF is he on the PP ??

Just the opposite. Book on Leafs is to hit them early and hit them hard and they cower like a flower in a freezer. This was known long before Schenn arrived. If the rest of the team had some backbone it wouldn't be happening. I'd slap them around myself (except for Schenn and Acciari!) if I knew I could beat them that way. The reason why there's a target on our best players is because they have a history of backing down. Especially Tavares, Matthews, Marner and Nylander. Bunting's toughness and pushback is just an act. Softest team in leaf history and even Dubas realizes this now, hence the players he acquired. But they need everyone on board, not just a few low rent players sticking up for the high priced cowards. This is how other teams view our "stars" :

Fast forward this damn thing to the spring so the inevitable happens, & we can finally blow up this chapter of Leafs hockey for good.

I'm tired of watching this group.
Well it seems like Shanahan Spezza and DR haly had a big hand in. It
Keeping the 2024 1st wasn't going all in
It was to let the new GM have some credibility

The second shorty was weak

I heard one of the players is an arsonist.

In all seriousness, they seem like a pretty tight group. I mean its possible I guess, but I don't seem to know of any public squabbles or infighting.
Tight??
When players stop skating, don't defend each other there are sides being choosen.
Bunting is not defending his bro like he did.
Seriously to move Kerfoot to #1 line with no goals in 19 games...Bunting and his bro have issues. I don't see a team, even among the players who have been together, not many shin pad slaps, little talking at face offs, less communicatoons on the bench. JT seems to be consistent, the rest seem cold.
Nobody knew about Ottawa until the roof came off.

Dubas and his new NuHockey coach are going to attempt to reinvent the wheel at every turn. At the expense of our best chance at winning a cup in decades.

76% of people say we should extend Dubas... Just dropping that juicy nugget.
Well dubas likely was making these trades with Shanahan Spezza and Dr wickenheiser
It just was too non dubas like .if he was going all in he'd have dumped the 2024 ist too
Injuries won't save his job .

Ljilgren needs to be in the lineup to me he was one of our better dman

If O'Rielly is injured bring up McMann
