Tavares was a pylon there and pretty useless all night. But honestly the whole team minus samsonov should feel awful
Total waste of 11 mil

Has to go ? where? The season is over. They will be swept in the first round. Book it
Tavares has to go. He looks awful. How slow can a player be.
Johnny Marleau was too slow to get off the ice when he had the chance.
But but he is a point per game player
JT isn't sick , injured or pregnant again , he's just this slow and it's more noticeable at 3 on 3 where the other players can't cover for him .Is there a flu bug going around in the dressing room? I thought I read somewhere today that the flu was going around> I know JT has slowed a bit, but he looked like he was doing an impression of Yertle The Turtle out there in OT. I don't believe he's slowed THAT much since the last game he played. I'm thinking he and a few others must have flu symptoms? If that's not the flu, then he's pretty much cooked.
Good points.I think we resign them both personally and then just wait out Tavares’ contract but yeah your #2 point is tough.
The year to trade a first rounder was the year he did with the all Canadian division and we blew it. I don’t feel like we should be doing that this year, our team is gutless and what are the odds of them beating Boston tampa and then probably Carolina just to get to the finals?
Never seen a less intimidating team, even competitive wise. When teams enter our zone on a rush or when teams cycle in our end or when teams stand infront of our net there is 0 punishment handed out. There is 0 threat, 0 intimidation. I loved playing against teams that played soft I could do whatever I want (hence why josh Anderson plays like super man against us).
Can anyone name more than 7/8 current leaf players you would consider highly competitive or physical?
He’s good in a 20‘x20’ box.JT isn't sick or injured or pregnant again , he's just this slow and it's more noticeable at 3 on 3 where the other players can't cover for him .
the funniest part of this is how many people bought he was faster based on a fluff piece about him working on his speed in the off season , lol
The football game was over in the first quarter. With the NFL playoffs in effect I only watched the 1st period of the game and the Leafs were up already safely 2-0.
Against the injury riddled Habs I thought the game was in the bag.
I have it on PVR so I can watch it to completion but it doesn't sound like its worth wasting my time on based on the comments in this thread.
i always love the ''positive posters'' who's lives revolve around being negative toward everything and everyone who doesn't blindly worship the team and especially the GM1 loss and the trolls come out from the woodwork
Welcome back you miserable bunch!
The football game was over in the first quarter.
pretty much just a net front presence , could have just kept Hey-Man who can at least skate and is half the costHe’s good in a 20‘x20’ box.
Don’t forget the posters who chirp physicality because they only see it as a goon fighting who can’t skate anymore.i always love the positive ''posters'' who's lives revolve around being negative toward everything and everyone who doesn't blindly worship the team and especially the GM
Impossible.Tavares and his deal are not aging well but it is not what he does in game #47 in January that we should care about. It is about what he does in games 83 and beyond and team results in the playoffs.
The tennis from down under was pretty good.
The 1st period was like 1 long power play for the Leafs. Keefe should have had his key players step on their throats. Keefe and company just thought it would be a piece of cake. Then a punch in the mouth came to in the second period. Personally I think Keefe should have called a time out so TOR could re-group. The 3rd period was evenly matched, but MTL was noticeably running Samsonov. OT was ok, but Toronto never seemed to look like they were going to score. The one opportunity MTL had possession they scored. JT did looked like a slower version of Joe Thornton out there on the 3 on 3. His playmaking is there, but his thinking/playing is always 1 step too slow. With the NFL playoffs in effect I only watched the 1st period of the game and the Leafs were up already safely 2-0.

Also kill penalties. And after last night I think he has more points then any Leaf player also.pretty much just a net front presence , could have just kept Hey-Man who can at least skate and is half the cost
Yep not sure which was the least entertaining of the two. Disappointing sports night all around. The football game was over in the first quarter.
Agreed!yea I am in a catch 22 for this
- I don't think trading huge assets is a good idea but at the same time...
- matthews and nylander are gonna be UFAs soon with no guarantees they will re-sign.
so what to do?
questions:
1) if we cannot re-sign them would we be able to trade them before July 1st? why? b./c their NTC/NMC kicks in
2) if we do re-sign them then what do we do as we are going to be up there with the cap with no cheap quality ELC coming in to help if we trade big assets
3) how much faith do we have in this team that it will go the distance if we traded big assets this season?
especially tough given we potentially have gm who is not going to be extended.
Tough situation to be in really. And quite frankly this is all Shanahan's fault
Signing him skewed the payroll structure and allowed AM & MM to squeeze Dubas for a few extra Mil$...we should not have signed him NOR is he a good captain. This is the Muskoka 5 version 2 all over again...JT isn't sick or injured or pregnant again , he's just this slow and it's more noticeable at 3 on 3 where the other players can't cover for him .
the funniest part of this is how many people bought he was faster based on a fluff piece about him working on his speed in the off season , lol
If there is he should have stayed home and rested, preventing his germs from infecting other players. It's not like Montreal had a stacked lineup. Coach should know better than to play him except 5 on 5 or power play. Are the players running the team or the coach? Is there a flu bug going around in the dressing room? I thought I read somewhere today that the flu was going around> I know JT has slowed a bit, but he looked like he was doing an impression of Yertle The Turtle out there in OT. Playing against a 100+ year rival that wants nothing more than to embarrass you, on "Hockey Day in Canada", where you're the only game televised across the entire country to the other Canadian fanbases that think you're a bit of a joke.I can understand if the team is having some trouble getting up for this situation, honestly I'm struggling to care as well
