You just wrote the recipe that will fix your team. Not every talented player wants to play like Wendell Clark or Doug Gilmour so you need bottom six guys that can counter opposing teams when the going gets tough. A guy like Jeannot could easily be moved up as protection for one of your top 4 guys if need be. In the playoffs a team needs to be able to win games in different ways but allowing your talented guys to be intimidated without any answer is a recipe for failure.

When we (habs) eliminated the Leafs in 21, it certainly wasn't because we could match you guys with talent or firepower. Carey Price was good yes but it was Weber, Chiarot and Perry that got in the heads of your best players and doubt set in and the series was lost.

Shanahan was a tough, gritty, talented player that won cups so it's confusing to many as to why the Leafs don't seem to value guys that contribute more than just points as you said.
Your absolutely correct

Maybe all the uncontested runs at him finally caught up to him? Who knows, this team is so gutless.

No doubt. I am not disputing that. He still has to make that save

Wait until he faces Perry night in night out. That will be a regular. He's still got a find way to keep the team in play.

That goal was a weak. We got rid of Andersen for same type of goals

But some of us had to watch Don Messers and join the game already in progress.
I used to listen to the first period on the radio with my grandmother, then switch to the TV. They thought fans wouldn't come to the arena if the whole game was on TV.

That is option 2, negotiate during his last season.

Negotiating doesn't necessarily mean Matthews agrees.

Unless you are suggesting are Poll
1. Trade
2. Negotiate
3. Don't Negotiate
I think that would be an interesting poll. I mean having open 2 is redundant as there is less than a 0% chance the two parties don't have a conversation. Unless you're suggesting to trade him out of the blue without talking to him or his agent whatsoever.

Two options for the poll should be:
1. Trade
2. Don't negotiate

As soon a July 1st. rolls around Leafs only option is negotiate, and they have no control. Although they could waive him.

Sorry, they could just not negotiate, but toonies to doughnuts they negotiate, even if it is to sign and trade like Tkachuk.

Well it was a nice shot, top corner, and perhaps if there was any pressure on Pitlick, Samsonov might have cut down the angle more by coming out further. Tavares was little more than a moving Cone.

They've gotten themselves in a bit of a pickle here.

Yeah, they are.

This is the NHL.

I mean, I'd rather win the gimmick than lose, but the massive hyperbole in this thread is pretty ridiculous.
It's hardly time to panic when you're 4th in the league. Heck, even gained a point on Tampa last night.
On to the next one.

On to the next one indeed. I wish I had your optimism young man

Some call it sure genius while others call it pure stupidity or being bent over a table.

At this point these games mean nothing. Waiting to see what these guys are made of games 83 and beyond when teams play for keeps when their backs are up against the wall.

When we lose a regular season game, the sky is falling. And when we win most of our regular season games and are 4th overall, that doesn't mean anything. Am I doing this right?
Nope. When we lose a regular season game, the team wasn't up for it and it's 100% understandable. And when we win most of our regular season games and are 4th overall, it proves how elite we are.

And when we lose in the playoffs, it's either the refs, or an outgoing players fault.

Well, I don't agree with any of this myself, but OK.

Of course the sky isn't falling, but when the team can't see to rise to the occasion again it's concerning. As I stated in a previous post, it was the only game on nationally (big stage), against a 100+ year rival that was decimated by injuries.

The Habs could have run them out of the building in the 2nd were it not for Samsanov.

This is not a meltdown, it is expressing disappointment that they allowed themselves to be outworked and lost a game they should have cared more about.

The lack of emotion in the postgame from many of the players starting with coach Keefe is what annoys me. Keefe should be pissed that they lost that game, as should the players, but it’s like ‘ah..no big deal..we let the gas off the pedal for the millionth time..but we’ll be ready come playoff time’. Too non-chalant an attitude. Samsanov is the only one who legitimately looked pissed

Heart is not a measurable analytical score. The ability to dig deep play tougher harder when this get tough is rarer than it used to be. Players in pre 90's had it in spades, today not so much. Its harder to find in todays prospect pool. Montreal just lucked out in my opinion getting Xhekaj, watch him play, never backs down, instinct is evident. The value of heart has gone up like anything else in short supply. This team has little heart on display when it should be more evident. I salute Bunting for sticking up and a few others but we need harder players in the bottom six. Again I go to Tanner Jeannot a good farm boy from down the road from where Wendel came. You want a good Canadian player with heart, size, and instinct go get Tanner.

1 loss and the trolls come out from the woodwork

Welcome back you miserable bunch!
The same same users who I respect to not overanalyze one game were joining in too. Incredibly disappointing

Some people just love being miserable, you'd think from some of the comments that we're 24th overall instead of 4th.

Me I'm just waiting for the playoffs to start. Sucks that we get TB again in round 1 but nothing to do but suck it up and beat them this time.
Like I get it if you don't trust the team. I certainly don't, but it has nothing to do with losing to the Habs in January. The reality is we won't know until the playoffs.

Seems like the feeling is mutual with the team some nights
Can't really blame them. If anything bad efforts against bottom feeders are less worrying than if they were giving these efforts against top teams.
