I think dubas' approach was not right. Tampa example has to be used with context.

Point, Cirelli, for example are gritty players and go to tough areas, lay body and are not afraid to rough it up. This became more prominent after they got embarassed by CBJ.

just find coopers' interview and players' interview after the CBJ sweep. And then find the interviews after they won their first cup where they talked about how the entire franchise decided as to how they will approach hockey. They completely changed the way they played hockey. All of this came from players, coaches and management.

I am too tired to dig up videos but if you go to YouTube you will see them
Both Dubas and TB approach is similar and it comes down to recognizing the right type of players for the team. I said it long time ago even before TB winning the President’s trophy. For some reason, every year in the WJC, the players that lead those non traditional Hockey Nations always tend to be TB mid to late round picks. That’s something that any teams should try to do.

I still don’t think Dubas and others got it right yet, bc they have not done anything in the playoffs. Guys like AM, MM, JT and Willie needs to step up in the playoffs more than they had bc so far they had no success collectively and still can’t score those series winning goals. If Point, Stammer, Cirelli and Kuch switch places with AM, JT, MM and Willie, would the Leafs win a Cup even with the same caphit. I think the answer is yes even with Andersen and Campbell in net.

Now I am not saying Dubas is perfect or without fault but his ideas is really not far off bc TB is successful, just need the players to step up or the right players.

CBJ did it to perfection in the series. Leafs also doesn't have a point shot where someone slaps or zips a puck from teh point and then people are in front looking for garbage goals.

they are always looking for fancy plays which are not really available in the playoffs. Its so infuriating b/c we know what the issue is and we are not fixing it
some people cant see this. Cough cough @Kiwi

leafs schooled by harvey panarin and pit lick

give matthews another two games off

jt is slower than jason allison now

team needs to get some toughness, can't let it be open season on your goalie, there were multiple runs taken at sammy. sammy has reason to be pissed at his teammates.

And Simmonds was in the lineup and did nothing (or wasn't allowed to by Keefe), he should not get another game unless there are multiple injuries.

I left at the end of the first period with shots so skewed for Toronto and came back mid third with shot essentially tied. I guess Toronto just thought Montreal would lay down and die after being down 2-0.

Silver lining. Montreal is 2 point further from Bedard while the leaf gain a point.

Anyone have insight on Keefe-Matthews at the end of the 2nd? I missed the period but saw people referring to it on twitter.

WHAT is the leafs record last 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 years vs teams UNDER .500?
Not sure about the past, but this year the Leafs are 2-3-1 against the bottom 5 teams in the NHL

In comparison, the Leafs are 6-1-2 against the top 5 teams in the NHL (excluding the Leafs, so 1,2,3,5,6). Their sole loss was the one with under a minute left against Boston

So, that's a 68 point pace against the league's worst, and a 128 point pace against the best. This team is stupid and annoying

Is there a flu bug going around in the dressing room? I thought I read somewhere today that the flu was going around> I know JT has slowed a bit, but he looked like he was doing an impression of Yertle The Turtle out there in OT. I don't believe he's slowed THAT much since the last game he played. I'm thinking he and a few others must have flu symptoms? If that's not the flu, then he's pretty much cooked.

maybe another childbirth situation?

The problem is that they're still the same bunch of losers that choke when the season is on the line every year and nothing at all is different about this season.

Every year we get a regular season full of mental gymnastics to explain away the warning signs.

How does one explain this? If we're good enough to consistently beat the best in the league but routinely lose to the worst, that's got to be an issue that's between the collective ears of this group, right? Not exactly encouraging that things will be any different in the playoffs this year.

I think Dubas tried to look at building a roster differently with non traditional methods hoping to find undervalue players. From drafting small skill players over big physical players, to focusing on skills over physical attributes….
Problem is that he is not wrong but he just can’t execute his ideas or versions.
Just look at TB, Point and Cirelli are not your traditional Cs and they are 2nd or 3rd round picks, if Robertson, Hironven, and SAR or SRA can turn into Point or Cirelli, that will go a long way for Dubas.
Not exactly a positive trait to have as a GM. This would concern me deeply, as an owner.

You just did.

What's embarrassing is the same song and dance year after year.

Looks like someone has followed the Leafs for about 15 minutes - because I easily remember plenty of years where the Leafs weren't top 5. What's embarrassing is petulant children taking hissy fits when everything doesn't go their way. The poster saying we earned another point widening the distance between us and TB and Montreal reducing their Bedard chances, has it right. Learn from your elders son.

The team should be embarrassed after getting hammered by an AHL team.
Habs iced a team with injuries to their #1 Goalie, Dman and their best goal scorer....
Strange effort to say the least especially in the 2nd period.

I honestly didn’t see Tavares once until the 3rd and they showed him on the bench yelling after the nylander high stick. Invisible
