its the same BS mentality that is afflicts this team culture

"think like me or you are cancelled/you are garbage/you are nothing/you are xyz (fill in the blanks)"

opposing/difference of opinion, different ideas; different expectations, wanting different things, etc... is apparently not ok.

Don't have to look too far man. Just look at Dubas' interview at the start of the season when he was asked about his contract extension. Instead of taking responsibility, he did what he always does "deflection" like he did after every playoff series.
Glad to see you mentioning the culture of the team and organization. Precisely what comes to mind when I watch them blow games like they did tonight.

We don't have winning, professional culture here in Toronto unfortunately.

The team soft and on many occasions, sloppy and lazy. They don't stand up for themselves or their teammates. How many times does Matthews smirk while his teammates are getting roughed up trying to protect him? How many times does Marner forget he's in the NHL and attempt of drop pass on a breakaway? Same can be said for management and coaching.

The chicken or the egg?

Perhaps years of mismanagement, disappointment, playing down to weaker opponents, blown leads, embarrassing losses, playoff failures, etc. are what have a lot of this fan base at their wits end. After so many years it blends together. It's not just a game in October or January anymore. It's compounded so much. Especially for the long time fans.

I was explaining my relationship with the Leafs to someone as a joke but perhaps not a bad analogy

1) when you are first going out in a relationship; you put up with every crap
  • this was the first 1-2 yrs of rebuild including the tank season
2) then you are in a relationship for a while and somethings start to annoy you and you have small fights
  • yrs 3-4 of playoff crap
3) you've been in a relationship for a long time (in hockey 5+ yrs is a long time IMO) with the same management and now even little stupid things start to piss you off and big fights are started even on smaller things. Why? because by now you should know already
  • this is the recent 2 yrs + this season

relationships are a two way streak eventually things get to the boiling point when its not working out LOL

It's a game in mid January against a bottom feeder and everybody knows who we are likely to be playing in the first round of the playoffs

I can understand if the team is having some trouble getting up for this situation, honestly I'm struggling to care as well

Just marking time until we see Tampa in the playoffs

I don’t know what happened to the leafs but it happens every year right after Christmas and new years do they get fat and lazy and can’t play hockey worth a shit. Jesus they piss me off every f***ing year they are disgusting and they don’t have a bit of pride in themselves to play like shit when they are playing a team that aren’t all that good they should show up to the next game with their faces covered in shame for calling themselves hockey players

Really? Didn’t we come back and beat Florida the game before this? Obviously it’s shitty when it happens to us, but we have been on the other side of comebacks as well. Over an 82 game season it’ll happen.

This is not an elite team. The vision is gone. Where is Dubas? Where is Zeke?
It’s actually pretty weird that since 1967 not one GM could get an actual contender together, I mean wtf is going on with this sports club? It’s unholy.

Can you imagine putting up with this kind of crap for 67years and your still a leafs fan the worst kind of bdsm you can imagine

While you aren't going to dominate 82 games and even the best teams have nights off, we are year 9 into the Shanaplan with nothing to show for it.

Sometimes it feels the standard of what's accepted is far too low in this market.
We dont win or lose anything in January. Theres nothing this team can do at this point to seal their fate either way.

As of right now, theyre a top 5 regular season team with this place losing their mind almosg nightly because they arent winning good enough. Is the bar really that low for January in your opinion?

It took 8 penalties for the leafs to beat them so a big woop for that

Josh Anderson would be a good target to add. Played hard and physical vs Leafs him plus Knies would change the team

Problem is the Ice Capades Leaf fans want a non contact team

Josh Anderson sucks. Watch any of his Montreal games besides the ones he plays against the leafs and you’ll see why. He always plays good against the Leafs but he’s been a non factor on Montreal. 16 points in 44 games and Carrie’s a $5 million cap hit, yeah no thanks.

What are you talking about? I’m not a Dubas super fan but Dubas one hundred percent took responsibility. He didn’t deflect at all. He literally said he understands why he didn’t get an extension. The team hasn’t advanced in the playoffs and him sticking with the core is a decision he’s going to live or die by. You can’t get more accountable than that.

Are penalties apart of the game or no? Who the hell cares, it’s a game in January. All I care about is are they going to get 4 wins in April. That’s what matters most. Like others have mentioned. This playoff format is the worst thing to happen to the NHL. Leafs already know they are 2nd or 3rd in the division. Same with Tampa, you just aren’t going to get that same effort night in and night out.

Poor Sammy…but not really upset lol I know what this team is.

Please just don’t trade any big assets this year and just let the dice roll with Dubas’ vision. If we lose again early get rid of him.

yea I am in a catch 22 for this

- I don't think trading huge assets is a good idea but at the same time...
- matthews and nylander are gonna be UFAs soon with no guarantees they will re-sign.

so what to do?

questions:
1) if we cannot re-sign them would we be able to trade them before July 1st? why? b./c their NTC/NMC kicks in
2) if we do re-sign them then what do we do as we are going to be up there with the cap with no cheap quality ELC coming in to help if we trade big assets
3) how much faith do we have in this team that it will go the distance if we traded big assets this season?

especially tough given we potentially have gm who is not going to be extended.

Tough situation to be in really. And quite frankly this is all Shanahan's fault

The fact that we basically know our Round 1 opponent half way through January is not a good look for the league.

The current format is a joke. Add in artificially increased scoring (through PPs), terrible officiating, game management, etc. The league should be taking heat. It's broken.

ya just like a team can't score in the last minute of a game. Wrong!

Teams go on streaks and who is to say that Boston can't lose a few more games than expected?

My team should always strive for trying to attain the best possibilty to put themselves in the best position.

AND after a game like tonight,..it shows the character of the teams desire to win. Be it January or tommorow.

Betting on a flick of a switch hasn't really worked well for us come playoff time.

Now repent and say two hail marys,...cause that is where you seem to be headed

You forgot to look at what the others can provide and make compromises or look at the shared past and think, must have faith.
But at the end of the day, it comes down to, ‘What have you done for me lately?’
Then will meet someone else and think, ‘Oh, he/she sure is different.’
Lol

I guess you better rewatch that and open your ears. He takes responsibility at 2:25 and reiterates what he’s been saying during his whole tenure. He believes he should be held accountable as the organization is heavy on accountability and he shouldn’t be treated any differently. He has no issues with being evaluated for his entire body of work. He believes in the staff and the core. There was no deflection there. Talks about giving everything he can to make the team better. Dubas isn’t a perfect GM, but he’s an honest and respectable guy. He’s never deceived the media or fans in anyway. And he’s always admitted his shortcomings. So I’m not sure what you’re getting at.

@3:45 he says, “I understand no body cares about what we have to say. A lot of people say we need to win in the playoffs. I agree, we have to win in the playoffs”

How exactly is that not taking accountability?

I dont think you understand what im saying.

It doesnt matter if they go undefeated the rest of the way, its about what happens in the playoffs.
