This has not stopped him from getting involved and helping his teammates when the going gets tough.

Or starting shit himself for that matter.

Once a player joins the Leafs they lose all toughness they once had. You'll usually see it for the first couple of games and then it just completely stops The Leafs do some sort of cleansing. I guess it's like how the Yankees make players shave their beard and trim their hair.

Man if Hyman goes down, I am going to give up on this team this year

It absolutely sucks that a player like him gets kneed by someone who tried to hurt our players before and nobody does anything

Regardless of the result of the season it would be stupid to fire Dubas. He's had 3 years, 2 of which was cleaning up the mess Lou left him and then he hit a covid season after signing players to deals expecting the cap to rise.

In that time he's revamped our scouting and development vs what we had under Lou. He's established good relationships with russian players and agents via reputation. He's generally been a good GM. Gm's need more than a few seasons to do their things. He should be allowed to retool the core at least. 2 more years at least he should get.

Honestly physicality isn't the issue with this team it's details and professionalism, which you hope a Foligno can help with.

I wish we were meaner and tougher, but that's not going to happen with this core, and it's fine. They shouldn't be this sloppy and this "easy" as often as they are.

I wouldn't expect too much out of Foligno. I mean it's not like Columbus is exactly a Presdents cup team that wins stanly cup every year
They don't have much to show for themselves

What does Foligno really bring that Joe, John T, Jason Spezza, Boyle, Plekanec didn't bring? If anything else, this team will change him

Foligno isn't exactly the next Gilmour

I don't know...Terrible PP. Lost in OT. And after a blip in the season we're still:

28-12-5
1st in the division
5th? in the league

And...
Campbell's 11-2-1 with a 2.24//919 sv%.
Set an NHL record.
Matthews is the NHL's leading goal scorer.
He and Marner are tied for 4th in points overall.

But you'd never know it from the conversations lately. And it reminds me of any number of slumps some of our better teams and players played through. Today, Sundin is (rightly) a legend and almost always spoken of in glowing terms. But oh boy, did he go on a cooler one season lasting a lot longer than say, Jack Campbell's last couple of games.

Starting with Jack, I'll say something positive to the present contrary: He's going to be fine. He isn't going to be the victim of a few games in which he didn't continue a historically impossible pace. At some point, the "realism" that our fan base passes off as concern really has to give way to informed cautious observation. We create an untenable environment that the media feeds off and collectively we contribute in negative ways I'm not sure many other bases do.

Is it ever just ok for us to pause alarmist reactions during good seasons' slumps even if only as a once in a lifetime experiment to see if there's a different effect on the outcome? And funny enough, stats above likely don't matter because we've experienced a slump. They don't support the everlasting preferred narrative.

Maybe it's just a slump and maybe we're better than the slump. I think the stats convey that but I suspect all that matters is being able to vent in a way that demonstrates offense taken and thus "concern". If I can veer away from the crowd for the moment, I'm happy as a pig in shit with some of the stats and pretty excited about the possibilities with this group, native and newly acquired.

Perhaps Salutegate was one giant mirror few of us were able to look into.
This is a real good reality check that I'm too angry to accept at the moment

Lots of posters that never post when we’re doing good coming out of the woodwork now.

Smh what a joke some of you are.
Then I must be guilty.....I am a 65 year old man who will cry if the Leafs win the cup.

I post my concerns as a way to vent, but because I care deeply and because I have missed very few games in 55 years, I have a right to my opinion and take.

I see a team others have described as lacking a killer instinct, I am worried that unless something changes, all their talent will not save them. They look like “deer caught in the headlights”, damaged goods. You don’t need a degree in psychology to understand the term “self fulfilled prophesy”.

so please respect your fellow Leaf lovers, do not tar me with your brush-your brand of vitriol does far more damage than “we jokes”

Also curious: did the crews just forget to put the f***ing net cams in today? Would the net cam not have been the PERFECT view to see if the puck conclusively went in or not?
Thete is video in this very thread showing it’s in

It gives them one more "professional" than they currently have. Hopefully Nash brings another. A guy to calm things down and do the simply tasks when things don't feel so simple.

Dating back to March 4th, after the Leafs handled the Oilers in three straight, the Buds have scored more than 4 or more goals exactly 5 Times. Let me repeat, the Leafs, with their $40 million four forwards, the team that "doesn't need offensive help," has scored 4 or more goals in exactly 5 out of 21 games!

To compare, in that same time span (since March 4th), Winnipeg has scored 4 or more goals 11 times out of 23 games. More than twice as many times as we've done the Jets have torched teams.

Can't believe people thought we didn't need scoring. f***s sake. Well f*** it, can't change anything about this roster now. Better hope Galchenyuk and Foligno can make up for the lack of offense.

Yep, he's taken all the way from Cup contender to not making the playoffs. Let's give him more time to completely destroy what hope we had.

Your perfectly reasoned take is going to be drowned out in the sea hot takes and panic.

The Stars situation as a comparable got brought up earlier and nobody seemed to care.

I think hating your own team in an industry here in Leafland and there's no shortage of sheep lining up to eat the slop.

The Stars literally came in to the season completely cold, hadn't played a real NHL game in 3 months, nevermind 3 weeks, and were getting over Covid and destroyed Nashville 7-0. I'm sure the Nashville press are still writing articles about the embarrassment (oh wait, they never did)...just the same way the Winnipeg media arnt obsessing an accountant subbed in as emergency goalie and got the win for the Hawks. (they treated it as a "fun hockey story" which it was, just like the Ayers story)

I've learned to just laugh all this stuff off though and enjoy the games. This is certainly the best Leafs team I've seen in quite some time so I'm happy to have a perennial playoff team for once instead of watching the crap I had to watch for the previous decade and a half.

These are the good times, gotta enjoy them. Maybe we'll even see a series win (or 4) if the stars align.

.....and I can even say I'm happy to see a little joy in Vancouver (even if it's largely undeserved) after having to sit around for 3 weeks waiting for their team to come back.

It's not like that lottery team is gonna sniff the playoffs anyways.

I just really hope Hyman is 100% for the playoffs. That's the only real story tonight.

Last year it was a new coach, a new system. he didn't get a full season, blah blah blah
There are coaches who came middle of the season and won stanly cup. We didn't even get a playoff spot

He got 2 decent backups this year, got 2 new D and one of them is solid. Multiple new adds as depth player and he still can't put a team together

both Sullivan with Pens and Berube with the Blues got it done. But keefe/dubas always have excuses built in for them lol

Well AM is leading the league in goals. Lol.

I am with you brother.

The lack of professionalism and details are a real concern among the core players (Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly but mostly Marner). All the cosmetic changes to the roster have failed to change their high ceiling, low floor nature that is embodied in this group. It seems like they have this mentality that they can take a period off and then just turn on the skill and cover it all up by outscoring their problems. Or if they embarrass themselves one game they'll just play honest hockey the next night. There's always a point in the season when they always get burned and wonder why they lost to a grittier more physical more mature team.

Jack Campbell lost the Leafs another game. 7 of 14 starts now with a SAV % under 900. He will never be a starter. He doesnt have the pedigree.

Lets get Rittich into more games until Freddy is healthy again.

Sure, lets hope for that. But to be honest though, why does an outsider need to come in for "professionalism" ?

Foligno will be a good add. But I expect nothing from him other than some decent defensive coverage

This is on the coach. Coach needs to do what's right, not what makes GM look good
Thornton, Simmonds needs to be benched. Give Holl Bogo new nights and develop within with Lilly

Keep a fighter in the game. Vegas has 2. They dont' play them all the time but they keep 2 on their 4th line
Play Saboruin for 3-4 mins a game. Remember when we used to play 3 lines? yeah, do that. Roll 3 lines. NHL players used to play with 3 lines all the time and game was much more difficult to play back then with hits and fights

Isles have 3 enforcers in their line up. Last I checked Isles and Vegas went far in their playoff runs

They don't want to be called just a face puncher by our lovely fans here on the HF boards.

Firing Dubas won’t fix anything as the team is set. If anything it is about fixing the core. The question is whom do we trust more Dubas or a new GM?
Personally, if they win a few rounds in the playoffs, this 4 games slide means crap but looking at this team over the past 5yrs, they lack that killer instinct.

I think it's a Rogers/Bell thing. Something just seems so off. Leafs organization feels more like a big consulting firm rather than a hockey organization
