whats JT's value on the trade market with his contract? The only teams that would accept him are trying to get the cap min.
He won't have much value unless we're retaining. Have to be teams that would consider taking him at 11 for 2 seasons though, but I highly doubt he would go there.

In an ideal world Marner and JT are gone, McDavid wins the cup this year and elects to come back home in free agency.
I cant see them shipping JT off. Hometown kid who takes a discount to come back home and then we get rid of him and his family. Not a good look.

Jack Eichel and Matthew Tkachuck will be in the finals

You know two guys we constantly said Matthews was better than

Good times

I'm still not sure what Woll is, the more looks at him the better

May as well start now

Wheres our big off season signing Matt Murray?

Oh yeah injured... an injured goalie injured.. I would have never guessed it

It's easy to say that now, but I'm sure we're in store for an another amazing season with this core led by future coaching legend Sheldon Keefe. Hopefully Dubas can really nail down the perfect mix of bottom 6 players to bring us the cup!
Keefe is gone for sure. Dubas is probably gone too

After round 1, the Athletic did an analysis of the impact of each player. Rielly, Draisaitl, Tkachuk, Marner and Hintz... Marner was the 4th most effective NHL player in round 1.. He was terrible tonight but this I am not at all ready to give up on him... I'm not..

The biggest issue I see is that we don't have a plan B for zone exits against this team.. We always want to make a 2/3 pass exit, (you have seen our forwards not get the puck out in this series) or go for the stretch and bump to a player with speed. We don't utilize lobs and go for loose puck recoveries... I think what that means is that we aren't fast enough or "sticky" enough to work that plan. We aren't the fastest, true but we don't have too many accurate passers on the backend.. Players like Nylander could cause absolute havoc on loose pucks.. I feels there is a plan A only with small modifications but no plan B which means we need everything working to win against Panthers, Canes, Bruins etc.. ... everything..

I thought Matthews made some decent defensive plays tonight... I would like to see him once in a while take a little off his shot to score.. everything has to be ripped at max velocity but he's hitting posts and hitting Bob..place it..

No player other than Nylander and Kampf really played well tonight... how the hell do we win like that? We won't.. everyone needs to be better and it starts with game 4.

I hated that trade at the time and I hate it even more now

The guy hasn't been fit for literally years but we're going to bring him in and he's going to lead us to the promised land

Madness and stupidity

I think it says a lot that this was their worst game of the series by far. They had a chance to get back into the series after a fairly close first two games that could have easily gone the other way, and rather than come in and leave it all on the line chose to just phone it in. It's actually incredible to me that professional athletes on the verge of their season ending put in such a timid performance that gave them virtually no shot at winning tonight, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it from any other team
This was the most frustrating part, we were still very much in this series and outplayed Florida. It was probably the most confident you could feel being down 2-0 in a series. Yet they came out flat and lifeless, basically waiting to lose

What a rotten core

I don't hate Dubas or think he's a bad gm but he put in trust in a core that he shouldn't of in hind sight of course its easy to say.

After the Tampa series I was pumped like everyone but this is just so beyond bad how they've responded after that series win finally.

However I think most gms would of because the talent is insane... but they choke over and over. Blame the coach too if you want but those top 4 aren't the right mix. If you can retool I'd do it. There's enough on this team to really change itb and still make some runs but not with these guys.

So I'm done with this core. I don't know the changes they need but they need a bunch. Especially with the core 4. A couple... or at least 1 should go and then bring in some younger guys and picks.

After saying all this... if they win 4 in a row I'll eat crow no problem but I highly doubt that.

Dubas' trust in this core is so arbitrary too. What about Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares as a group warrants so much faith? Some of them? Yeah, I'm still here for that. All of them? In that combination? Why? They're not even all that stylistically compatible that they fit into a coherent program. Tavares being the big outlier. Just doesn't make any real hockey sense.

its simple

they CAN win, they just don't WANT to win. The trophy isn't worth the pain to them. Literally. Beating up their bodies and the mental distress that comes with winning a cup isn't worth it to a LOT of players, not just these guys. They already got paid.

Just look at how they've "played" in this series. It's not a joke it's not your imagination it's not being pessimistic, it's just that they aren't playing to win anything here. These guys can EASILY go deep, real deep with the talent they have there. They're just not interested.

Lose Wednesday and then on Thursday they can get the f* outta here and get their summers started. Screw the trophy. Screw the media. And we not getting paid, either? F* that lol.

THAT'S what's going on.

Nothing to do with a lack of talent or ability to win it all.

It's just that this current combo of players does not care whether they win or not, and they are playing exactly like it.
I don't think it's fair to lump JT in with the others in the 'CAN win, just don't WANT to win" category - I think he "WANTS to, but is pretty much past the "CAN" part.

It is puzzling...he had an unproven hypothesis and just stuck to it...I wouldn't be so peeved if the players like Nylander, Matthews and Marner weren't so money hungry as their #1 priority...took all that money and can't deliver...now they are put in a situation to milk the organization for more money...it's time to cut bait with some of them.

If this team can win 3 straight against Tampa, they can win 4 straight against Florida.

However, with our stars disappearing and Samsonov injured - that leaves a lot to be desired.

Dubas bet on Samsonov and Murray, and it looks like Woll is likely going to start with their backs against the wall.

He usually comes back with a vengeance but it only lasts for a few games and either he lost the edge or got injured again.
It's unfair, it's cruel, but it is what it is. When you are a goalie, staying fit and healthy is a skill like any other. Any forward or defenseman we have who's frequently injured, we could forgive them for that and tell ourselves, oh well, he's great when he plays, and we can plan around that. They're just one of 18 skaters on the team. When you're starting goaltender, you're the only one. It's all on you. If you can't stay healthy, you suck. It's that simple. Even if it's cruel and unfair.

They didn't do nothing.

They turned the puck over on a lazy dump-in that resulted in Sammy's injury, Schenn's penalty, and Florida's first goal.
They got hemmed in their end (with help from JT) for Florida's second goal.
Hey Jamason, has a team ever come back from 3-0?

I think players will also ask for what they think they deserve but it doesn’t mean the GM needs to pay that amount.
Dubas failed in handling the Willie situation but not like Lou helped either as Lou didn’t try to negotiate with Willie the year prior.
Everyone knows AM will get a contract between McD and Eichel. Dubas didn’t get the terms but the AVV is where most expected AM would get.
MM is interesting, he proven he deserved that contract over the past few seasons but at that time I really believe Dubas could had get the amount lower. Not sure why Dubas didn’t use the Drai contract as an example.
The JT signing is horrible now. But I don’t blame Dubas bc that’s a signing that signal his Leafs era. Dubas just bet on the wrong horses.
He can wheel and deal and I really starting to see he understands what’s needed to build a Cup winning team. Just look at all the TDL trades this season. I actually have faith in him making deals to make the team better which involve moving one or two of the top 5.
