The trade market for any of our core guys (bar maybe Nylander) is so low that we aren't going to get much of any value back. They've shown who they really are. Darker times ahead I'm afraid.
I know we see it from them every game and that's what we think now, but that does not mean that every team in the league looks at it that way. Even the worst and most toxic players are given many more chances, because someone wants to believe they just need a new change of scenery. I think anyone who thinks you wouldn't be able to get a mint for Auston Matthews is out of their mind. It only takes a couple teams to get into a bidding war. There are a couple dozen teams who would look at him or Marner or maybe even Tavares or Rielly as the missing piece they need.

Leafs haven't done shit since Babcock left
They didn't do shit with him either, so...

Hey Jamason, has a team ever come back from 3-0?

Only 4 teams in the NHL's 100 year history have ever come back to win a series down 3-0.

So, it could happen:

It's unfair, it's cruel, but it is what it is. When you are a goalie, staying fit and healthy is a skill like any other. Any forward or defenseman we have who's frequently injured, we could forgive them for that and tell ourselves, oh well, he's great when he plays, and we can plan around that. They're just one of 18 skaters on the team. When you're starting goaltender, you're the only one. It's all on you. If you can't stay healthy, you suck. It's that simple. Even if it's cruel and unfair.

It's happened four times. Toronto is the only team to do it in the finals - against Detroit in 1942 (and no, I wasn't around then).

1. Leafs is one of the few teams who got knocked out in the first round for 6 straight years.
2. Have not won the Cup since 67, which is also rare
3. One of the worst eliminations game records in the playoffs history.

I say Leafs is special and always have record in the few

Jack Eichel and Matthew Tkachuck will be in the finals

You know two guys we constantly said Matthews was better than

Good times

Wheres our big off season signing Matt Murray?

Oh yeah injured... an injured goalie injured.. I would have never guessed it
It's not the NBA. One player doesn't replace a whole team and guarantee success, even if you have McDavid. VGK made the the SCF and deep playoff runs long before Jack Eichel did. FLA was the President Trophy winning team the year before, who got smoked in the 2nd round. They still have a good team at the end of the day - Adding Tkachuk doesn't change that.

I just want to see them come out and blow the doors off like they did to TB in game 2. They don't even have to win the series. Just would like them to show up and win 1 game at this point. That said this team turns very tragic when they get demoralized, and will usually lay an egg. So I expect we will lose 5-1.

The main difference is the Eichel in Vegas is like Willie or JT for the Leafs, Tkachuk might be the shining but the Panthers main guys are Ekblad and Barkov, where AM is our guy.
Been saying it since the Habs collapse, maybe our guys are Pippen and Rodman instead of MJ, and Magic.
I always want them to prove me wrong but time and time again, they just couldn’t step up like tonight. Then you look at McD and Drai, those guys stepped up. Think the only time they didn’t was in the North Division and got swept by the Jets.

This was the most frustrating part, we were still very much in this series and outplayed Florida. It was probably the most confident you could feel being down 2-0 in a series. Yet they came out flat and lifeless, basically waiting to lose

What a rotten core
Combine tonight with how they came out in game 1 against Tampa at home and how they played in the first half of game 4 against Tampa in a must win tells you this team just doesn't have it and never will.

There is no justification for not moving on from this core and completely restructuring this team, at this point what do you have to lose? Nibbling at the edges isn't going to make enough of a difference. Time for a fresh start and a change of scenery for everyone involved.

Getting stuck with Tavares at 11 m over losing Hyman at 5.5 was a travesty.

Nylander is good but can be inconsistent at times.

Matthews is not worth his salary in this series.

I love O'Reilly, Marner, Knies though. We could really use Knies right now.

Keefe looks like a guy who just wants to rip the band-aid off and be let go.

The best part about the Leafs getting swept is that I no longer need to tune into CBC for the foreseeable future. Quite frankly, between this team's lack of passion and will, a proliferation of gambling ads, and this city's ridiculous and hypocritical media I need a nice long break.

watch the tnt stream if you can. very enjoyable.

Last team to comeback from 3-0 the 2014 Kings lost game 2 when up 2-0 and lost game 3 like us in OT. That team had Kopitar/Doughty and Quick though and had won a cup in 2011. Don't like our chances but win 1 and see what happens I guess.

REMINDER:

Matthews, Marner, Nylander NTCs kick in on July 1st.

Need to move fast. Gotta go get a new GM ASAP.
It's simple asset management. You will lose them all for nothing one day. Between now and then, you're not winning anything. So do like the Leafs do on the ice, and circle back, regroup and see if you can produce a better entry the next time.
