Where do we even go from here? We don’t have any options. No salary cap space to bring anyone in, no first rounder again, limited prospect pool. This team is now stuck under the weight of huge contracts and a flat cap. Mediocrity here we come.

And the offseason is going to be abysmal again

This team isn't going to achieve much with no capspace to have quality depth.

Dubas has screwed us so hard I cannot see how we are ever going to have any playoff success until the cap goes up significantly all of a sudden or one of the high AAV guy is off the roster.

And...

P.S. anyone see the marner and matthews quotes on twitter for the post game. piss the F outta me.

Dubas original sin was paying for 'future results' rather than past results. Pay Mathews and Marner only when they prove they are great, not before.
Totally fair. But note lou payed that garbage defencemen Zaitsev after one decent year.
If Lou was still the GM, He would have paid marner and matthews still , probbaly 1-2m less , but he would have

We all knew this was inevitable. It's not even a choke, it's just what they are. You need your leaders to be your best players and the golden duo are simply not leaders.

Really tough way to end the season no doubt. This one stings. Hard to believe there won’t be changes that come from this. It’s very clear this core struggles to get past the demons in between the ears. I have respect for all of our players, Mitch and Auston included. But there will undoubtably be some changes one would think. We’ve seen this story for 5 years now, I’m not sure we need to see it again. How many scars does this core need before they learn? They are battle tested, but have never rose to the occasion when the chips are all in the middle. It’s really unfortunate. It’s hard to assemble a more talented team in the salary cap era. I think I’m ok with any and all changes that are made in the off-season provided it’s fair value return. Which is extremely difficult when you are talking moving superstars. That said, there are other superstars likely on the move (Seth Jones, Jack Eichel, Vancouver Core). All I know is that I have 100% full confidence in Kyle Dubas. He assembled a great team. One that answered all the deficiencies of years past. This is completely on the underperforming players, most specifically Auston and Mitch. Very disappointed, but it won’t change my allegiance 1 f***ing bit. I’ve seen this team blow 3 goal leads in a game seven before, this is nothing. Still a very promising team. I have faith that Kyle will make the necessary adjustments to get the best possible team in place for next year

Nobody will ever convince me that having THREE "8 Figure Cap Hits" is a good idea.
won't happen ever, it's a fools errand to even try.

Isn't there some crazy stat like about teams with a single 8 figure cap hit?? It's something about never making it to the stanley cup finals?

well we have 3 of them
No team with at least one player with a 10 mil or higher AAV has ever won a best of 7 series in the cap era

Maybe doug ford was onto something in not wanting any fans in attendancs...

Going to be a looooong 82 games next year. Im going to try staying off tsn, im done hearing any words from the leafs, let their actions do the talking because its pure lip service, and has been since colombus. If i hear 'is different this year' again imma flip out.

Craig Button.

If you felt good about the Leafs at the end of the season then you can't be calling for Dubas's head, he had no control over this. If not, go ahead.

BUT otherwise, every single other person is fair game and I want to see some f***ing changes.

Marner needs to go and I don't think anything is changing my mind on that. We had the blue line, we had the goalie, heck we had the head coach. We got the gritty guys and the vet experience. William Nylander - MR HOLDOUT WILLIAM NYLANDER - was our best player this series, he should be 3rd or fourth every time. Matthews can't go obviously and you don't dare move JT. Willy just had the series of a lifetime and he had no support. I don't want to see Marner in a Leafs jersey next year and at one point in time he was my favourite player.

I'm stuck somewhere in the land of wondering if I should even bother to care anymore.

We're always going to be dramatic after this sort of thing. We're fans. It's what we do.

....but at this point, after this many first round wet farts, it's just....so hard to wonder if I should even feel anything.

What are we supposed to feel?

You move Marner for a 7th round pick in 2029 and take his 11 million and retool the team. Marner has to go.
