Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 2-1

Can we get 88 a Center who can shoot the puck and skate with him? Playing with Holmberg or Kampf more often than not at this point.

Man we have a lot of useless forwards. Dewar. Reaves. Holmberg. They all should be shipped out.

You know it’s bad when you can’t wait for jarnkok to get healthy.

No we can not afford that. Must pay keep money for Marner he needs more.

At this point the Leafs should just trade off all the good players for picks and pay all the 35 year old stars that are popular and sell jerseys. Just be that team that the business class golf claps for and exits 1st round every year.

It's perfect for MLSE culture.

Shanahan bet the farm on moneyball Dubas. He lost fantastically and amazingly is still employed. Nothing is going to change. The cultures shot and the core is greedy and much like Muskoka 5
Roger that, retaining useless mgmt and overpaid players will make not following the team a pretty easy decision next year…….

Matthews and intensity don't belong in the same sentence. He should stick to golf. I suspect he's getting pretty good at it by now anyway.
He’s indifferent to winning, just what you want from your captain……..

Same core..same lack of will. Better goaltending is pretty much the only chance this team has to make this years playoffs different
Yeah, but Stolie is already injured and Woll is well overdue for a groin pull………

Berube has caught Blue and White disease. It was only a matter of time.
Sad, but I think your right, perhaps it’s inevitable once your exposed to the team?

Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes. Leafs have to get those mistakes out of their game.

On the first goal, Rielly stopped playing when he thought the puck went out, he was pointing in the air like a caveman pointing at a comet, Sens got the puck back, had sustained pressure, we took a PIM as a result of that sustained pressure. Kampft's stick broke, he for some god unknow reason went for a stick replacement when the puck was still deep in our zone and the Sens had possession. Multiple mistake's that led to that goal.

Second goal - stretch pass where Benoit loses body position on Amadio, Meyers looses coverage on his guy in the corner and Leafs allow a cross crease pass, 3 Leafs players should/could have blocked the cross crease pass. Mistake, mistake, mistake.

This team over the last month+ has looked a heck of a lot like the failed Leafs playoff teams. Lacking detail in their game. Soft defensive play. Scrambly, panic play with the puck. Not purposeful.

I go back to the question I've been asking since December, where is Berube's system of tight checking, playing as one unit. We know what his system looks like, we played his Blues and that team although they lacked top end skill all played as one unit. Come to think of it he had Billington, who had to stand on his head most nights to give the team a chance. Maybe Berube's system is to hope a goalie gets out of this world hot and ride that to a championship? I'm already on the dump Berube train, he's had 50 games to establish his system and it is non existent, where is coach Q?

The only guy who scored tonight was Bobby McMann, who is depth scoring. The power outage came at the big boi level.

Yes but the bottom 6 are putrid. They could score once in a while right? IMO McMann is now more of a top 6 tweener that a depth scorer, he should be good for 20.

Domi 3 goals in 41 games
Kampft 3 goals in 36 games
Holmberg 2 goals in 37 games
Dewar 0 goals in 29 games
Reaves 0 goals in 30 games
Myers 0 in 19 games
Tanev 1 in 48 games
McCabe 1 in 40 games
Timmins 1 in 42 games

I get that some players like Tanev and McCabe are here to defend but hell would it hurt to have them throw in an occasional goal every once in while. When you play the Leafs you know their D is not scoring or getting the puck to the net, so all you need to do is clog up the middle down low and focus on the forwards. The top 6 guys have scored 75% of their goals. Top 7 have scored 79% of their goals. From a scoring perspective we need the bottom of the line up to pick it the heck up.

Expecting a coach, who spent his career as a cement head, to have any concept of offensive schemes is like asking a dog to explain string theory. Wont happen. It's time for Coach Q..

Sad lineup with Tavares and Knies out. Nothing to worry about until the playoffs.

You can add Marner with his 2 ENG in last 13 games and Rielly with 1 in his last 36 (3 on 3 OT winner).

I blame bleeding depth to pay this loser core and assets at the TDL to add because they cannot get it done and it is why they have to stop IMO. The rest of you are free to find your own reasons for this Power Outage.

I also noticed that in the first 2 periods ( before I fell asleep for the third).
Do you think that’s him doing it on his own or is this some weird setup by the coaching staff?
This has been happening most of the year. Last night for some reason it was far more apparent. Could have been the camera angles or the ability to see the whole offensive zone.

Berube must be disappointed that he coaches a team that couldn’t get up for Saturday night game in Ottawa and when the game was in their reach couldn’t muster enough to give a push in a rivalry game. Matthews and Marner had that game 7 look on their faces.

It's a stupid goal, but a better question is why can't Leafs score more than one against a goalie who is barely hanging on in the NHL?
For me, they don’t have the depth that’s necessary to carry them when the “chosen ones” can’t get it done. It all comes back to improper cap allocation and trading away valuable draft picks for pure rentals who never got the job done.

Might be their worst effort performance of the year so far.

I'm done with Holmberg. Easily our worst forward every single game. Reaves as least can play a role time to time. Only thing Holmberg does successfully is take costly penalties.

Marner pathetic effort tonight.
Done with
Holmberg
Domi
Robertson
Reeves
Kampf

If you look at it subjectively you will see the puck bounce off Pinto's knee before he starts his kneeing motion. I believe the goal was reviewed and confirmed. Don't see the angle on the Lorentz but it looks like he used a kneeing motion to propel the puck into the net.

It was reviewed. That puck flies pretty far for a puck that was not propelled.

Couldn't risk a PIM, down 2-1 with 9 min to go, you cant give the Sens a chance on the PP, if that was 1st or 2nd period I think they would have challenged that.
Likely and probably would have counted. Berube had to be POed that they were in that situation.
