I thought Kerfoot was on the way out, but this solidifies it for me. ROR is that Swiss army type who can play any situation and any forward position but just does it miles better. Now that they don't really need Kerfoot's versatility they really don't need him at all. I'd love to see a guy like Lafferty or Barbashev instead
Might as well pay up to Detroit and see if Perron wants to come! If not maybe Henrique from the Ducks. Be nice to gain some more scoring goals type player for 3rd line!

Kyle Dubas Media Availability | February 18, 2023

Streamed live 3 hours ago

Kyle Dubas speaks with the media following the Maple Leafs' acquisition of Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari via trade with St Louis.

Honestly I love Kyle Dubas. I know the results have not been there in the playoffs since he took over, but it’s really not for a lack of innovation or trying on his end. He seemingly always pulls a rabbit out of his hat.

We need to resign him ASAP in my opinion.

What I appreciate the most is his honesty regarding the pros and cons behind all of his decisions. Let’s not forget that this acquisition came at a heavy cost to our draft capital, and something that has been his bread an butter since he took over. He didn’t deflect away from that, but gave a thoughtful and logical response to it all.

I’ve always been pro-Dubas, but I just can’t imagine even a single person on the anti-dubas side of the fence hating this deal. This is a complete win

It will look better if they continue to add. All in or bust, no sense hanging back now.

Not a fan of this trade?
Depends on future cap hit. He is in decline and hope the annual injury bug for trade deadline players misses him. Otherwise love it and love the cap savings it opens the door for more. Players lost not crippling picks expected or a little less then. Talk of extensions already not sure if that's good or bad however. Term and length equals good value then it's fantastic.

Sounds like an awesome add on the face of it.
Hopefully ROR is healthy and can play like a rejuvenated 32 yr old (with a lot of miles) and help us with the elements he brings that we don't have a lot of - grit, experience at winning in the playoffs, being a former playoff hero (of which we had zero before his arrival, with Muzzin on the bench).

Really hope it works out - everything else is gravy.

Not happening. He's just added ROR and Acciari. If we can't win at least one round now, he does not deserve an extension. We'd need a new set of eyes.

In terms of development and match-up toughness, this is probably the deepest the Leafs will ever be. Although Matthews needs to step it up offensively relative to his peers.
No more excuses for any of the big 4. I mean what other help do they need ??

The risks here do have merit (pending UFAs, quantity of picks lost). I'm just hopeful about the greater upside.

Welcome to our NHL projections and probabilities page where you will find each team’s projected point total, its probability of making the playoffs, and its odds of advancing to each subsequent round, including winning the Stanley Cup.

The projections are based on 50,000 simulations of the remainder of the season, which factors in each team’s projected strength, current health, and their strength of schedule (which includes opponent strength, venue and rest). Each team’s projected strength is based on the projected value of the players on its roster based on Game Score Valued Added (GSVA) and can be found at the bottom of the article, along with a link to team depth charts containing projected GSVA values for each player. You can read more about GSVA and the model here.

This page will be updated each morning. Click to expand any chart for a larger view.

All projections and probabilities are rounded to the nearest whole number.

At this point it has to be a serious run or cup or this move might be Foligno 2.0 if they do not resign both.
IS ECF even enough if they both walk?

ROR has me feeling Owen Nolan vibes right now. Now it's time to find Leetch. Lol

It will look better if they continue to add. All in or bust, no sense hanging back now.
I couldn't agree more.

At this point where it seemingly win or bust for Dubas, is it far fetched to think 2024 1st is available?

The great part about being a fan and not on staff with the Leafs is that those worries are for another day.

Either we win or get knocked out somewhere in the playofffs and then I will let the reality of the lack of picks set in

We need to get a big hard nosed guy who drives the net to play on his wing.
He is a great dish artist, but best when the person is net crasher.
Comtois?

The Leafs couldn't let Boston or Tampa get him. He's a Bergeron clone. I was really worried about where he ended up. This is a move that can definitely tip the scales. If Boston and Tampa don't match to the same level I think the Leafs have pulled ahead.

He is the perfect compliment to the forward group. Whether you want to stack lines and put him in the top-6 on the wing or you want him to run his own line and bring offense to the bottom-6, while being able to be a matchup line this really opens things up.

Acciari is a grinder who can play, which will be a nice change from the likes of ZAR, NAK, Hunt and Simmonds on the 4th line. Definitely an improvement. I think that 4th line can keep pace with Tampa Bay's group this time around.

I'm feeling confident in our chances.

I just love what ROR and Acciari were wearing when they showed up. It shows they are grinders and blue collars MEN.

Don't like the move but I've been checked out of this team for awhile, until Dubas is gone. It once again feels like we're trying to import grit and character from elsewhere, rather than have it sprout organically from our group. Rather than lean into our identity and acquire more speed and skill to overwhelm teams, Dubas is trying to go in two directions at once again, and we'll end up nowhere. I hope people are excited for the rerun this spring.

Trades aren't won or lost before a single game has been played.

We're going to find out in just a couple months for sure though.
