Is he worth 4.5M at this point? 19 points in 40 games is a 39 point pace. Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's been unlucky this year, he's clearly on the decline, and once that starts, it tends to continue.

ROR has played a physical style game. Those types of players usually see a massive drop around age ~30-32 (Simmonds for example is only 34, and has been a 4th liner/AHL calibre player for years now).

I'd love to re-sign him, but I think the caphit should start with a 3, unless he really takes off down the stretch.
I keep seeing people talk about his physicality, but like? Have these people ever watched him? He's not afraid to be physical, but I wouldn't consider him a physical player by any means. He reminds me of JT in that he's down and dirty and grinds, but like? Are people fooled by the intensity?

0.41 hits/game in his career
0.55 blocks/game
0.15 PIMs/game

I've been watching some clips of him this year too and the people claiming he can't skate anymore seem to be way off base. Like JT (again) he's never been a burner, but his skating is functional and it doesn't impact his game much because of how positionally sound he is. Not to mention the foot has been apparently an issue most of the season and he decided to fix by sitting out those games.

All over again …..

Yeah the only longevity knock is that he‘a been playing demanding shutdown minutes since he was 18, but he does it with his hands and positioning, not getting in dogpiles on the boards every shift.

Doug Armstrong on Ryan O'Reilly trade

Streamed live 63 minutes ago

St. Louis Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong holds a press conference on Saturday, Feb. 18 at noon CT to discuss the trade of captain Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for three draft picks and forwards Mikhail Abramov and Adam Gaudette.

And if he didn't add you would be coming in here saying Dubas sucks for not adding to a team competing for a cup. Pick a lane and stick to it.
The roster is still flawed for the playoffs and he’s blown almost all his load. That D is not a playoff style D and the health in net is questionable at best.

"You"

What's the main account? Oilers? Sens?

f***in sad.

???

Keefe is sounding like a kid in a candy store after the O’Reilly trade

I don't think the existing lineup needs any more major tweaking. But there's a couple of FAs who are going to be squeezed out because of this deal. Namely a Kerfoot and an Engvall. I would try and deal one or both and get some of that draft capital back, and maybe another warm body. Even if its a second and couple of thirds.

Just want to point out that the only St Louis line with more than 150 minutes together is Leivo - O'Reilly - Saad, it isn't like he's had good linemates this year.

also the best xgf% of all the lines with 60+ mins...

I get it, history hasn't been kind.
For me, Team is much better today than yesterday and there will be more moves to come that will recoup some picks.
For me and I'm sure many others this trade has added excitement not only for the playoffs but the regular season as well to see how the new guys fit and how the team performs.

What has been sad about Leafs long playoff losing drought is that its made the Leafs regular season results outside of qualifying almost meaningless and melancholy as many have lost interest and at times even harder to watch when playing bottom feeding teams. Even diehard fans only watch a period or 2 at times where in the past all 82 games were a pleasure, and now feel more like a chore in support when the season really depends on what the team does in the playoffs that what really matters to all Leaf Nation. Some wishing there was a fast forward button on the reg season to get to the real meat the playoffs.

So this trade to make the Leafs better, in a effort to produce a winning playoff season has induced a new wave of enthusiasm now to see how this all plays out, as most trades tend to do. IMO

Very much reminds me off a more defensively inclined JT with worse hands etc.

In terms of development and match-up toughness, this is probably the deepest the Leafs will ever be. Although Matthews needs to step it up offensively relative to his peers.
