The big question is, how far do the leafs have to get this year for you to consider it a success?
Second question, how far do the leafs have to go for Dubas to get an extension?

Missing games has nothing to do with what I said. He is still long the downside of his career and hasn't looked good at all this season.

The team hasn't had anything to celebrate and adding another end of his career player isn't going to change that. I equate adding ROR as the same as adding Foligno.

We can only hope this is the move that pushes this forward. It's a good addition and they are far better than they were before they made it. You can hate the 2 players coming in all you want but the Leafs are better with them than without right? That's the whole point. I'm sure you'll be the first to admit they were wrong if this isn't at all like the Foligno addition, right?

Always comparing every trade to Foligno and pulling your hood over your head that nothing is ever good enough is a great way to live in perpetual anger. It's going to be ok, I'm sure it'll work out one day and if it doesn't, we'll try again.

If you want to keep being a debby downer and live in your miserable world as a Leafs fan, assuming you are a Leafs fan anyway, you live your best life buddy.

I don’t think he’s going to take league minimum but can we get him at 4.5 instead of 7.5 on a 2 year deal? Probably. I’ve been high on the ROR train. I believe he’s wanted to play in Toronto for some time now and they’ve finally made it happen.

The man is going to swarmed with the PASSION of the fanbase and hopefully go on a deep run.

That + his family connections to Ontario could make him well inclined for team friendly extension. Agreed not Gio or Spezza cheap, though

Pay dat man his (Kerfoot's) money.

If we can get him on the kerfoot deal that would be even better! Then bring in ELC’s to fill those bottom roles.

Steeves, Holmberg, McMann, Andersen, Robertson. If Knies is ready him to otherwise let him bake in the AHL. We have so many internal options to replace Engvall/Kerfoot next year. Then we aren’t even counting the bargain UFA’s you can possibly sign.

Not Spezza, Gio cheap but perhaps having come home he won't want to hit the road again.

Man Leafs/Toronto/Hockey is a crazy market. I still remember people were looking at flights/airports and what not for switzerland/zurich when willy/dubas were negotiating
haha that and the Stamkos flights... Also I remember when Brad Richards was a free agent, and we desperately needed a 1C... Was a crazy time around here. Breaking down every single picture, quote, tweet

Nothing compares to our media though. Feschuk showing up to Marlene Reimers house to get the inside scoop on his injury.... Was something.

As excited I am about this trade, the feeling for this team stays the same. The team is well constructed (even better today), well coached, and has plenty of talent at each position to make a real run with now no weaknesses (for me 3C was the only gaping hole).

Now more than ever its on the players to figure it out themselves, and we're still at best having to face two top-5 teams to get out of the first two rounds. Doesn't matter anymore, you gotta win.

I would hope so but I did see a couple of posts, “if we win a round it was worth it, Dubas is safe” or something very similar
The Leafs haven't won a playoff round after 18 seasons, so there is an aspect of the fan base that would simply like to get that monkey off the teams back, and prove this team is actually cable of winning a 7 game series. So I get that the bar might be set a little low by other diehard fans standards for that exact reason.

That should really be the bare minimum result and return to consider this trade effective and worthwhile. IMO

At the moment ROR is also a pending UFA, so getting him signed to an extension, and getting more than just 1 playoff year out of him would help offset the cost of 1st and 2nd round pick currently for a rental player.

So outside of the teams success this year, that is also a factor that would need consideration when evaluating this trade risk/reward in time.

What I find kind of interesting in the 4th for Minnesota's retention is how expensive it is for a team to manufacture a mid round pick. Literally costs millions.

A lot of flexibility though. Maybe we get a Top 4 D?
Except it didn't literally cost millions. I think the actual cash out for Minny is $75K.

Kane has the same structure to his deal. A third team coming in to eat 25% of the cap would be under $200K I believe

Robertson + Kerfoot for Kane?
B prospect for another team eat 25%

That might be way too little to get Kane but the Hawks might be over a barrel in this as the NYR can't fit him in. Maybe we add a conditional pick? A fifth that becomes a first if we get to the Conference Championship or something?

Could definitely solve the 3C spot for a few years if he takes a fair AAV. Also puts Kampf to 4C where I think he belong. Excellent center depth if ORielly returns to his play in previous years and should be a boost to the 3rd line
I don’t anticipate Kampf being with us after this year. We won’t be able to afford him as a 4th line Center. He’s going to get paid on the open market
